I’d say if you’re going after a Foxbody stick with 89-93 mass air cars. They have more potential for mods. This one has a pretty good intake but I’d stay away from buying it. No responsible owner of a rare car like this would mod a car like this and drive it around without tuning it. You’re begging for trouble with this one. I’d say check down south for a good Foxbody since we rarely have harsh winters and road salt. You’ll thank me later. Keep searching bro you’ll come up on a jewel. Patience is a virtue.

Yo Stang that car takes me back you see Ford hired me in 77 to launch the 79 fox body as a process engineer. You know the notch back was faster that the fast back that’s why the cops loved them. We built over 2000 of them for the cops. I coordinated the builds from the different states to verify the options. One thing to check for on them is the floor pan just in back of the driver side seat mount. We started seeing the floor cracking in that area and we developed a reinforcement for the cop cars. We would see them on the regular cars if they where hot roded. If you get it check out the floor and reinforce it.

  • @grants.9120
    @grants.9120 2 роки тому +11

It might be worth it. The issue is that it's a speed density engine management system. To tune this one you would need to convert it to mass air or put a holley or a micro squirt on. With the cold air intake , different intake and underwrite pulleys the stock ECU can't compensate. It sounds like it doesn't hat cats either. If that's a rabbit hole you're looking to go down. Heater cores are not that bad to do, but a shot will charge around 6 hours in labor.

Need to look around southern VA and NC for a good rust free car for a good price! The Notchbacks are going to get harder and harder to find. This one is still relatively stock and not butchered up. Based on inflation, and scarcity of the notch, 10k is a fair market value for that car. Speed density doesn't matter. You can convert to mass air, which was limited in tune also... Or go carb. The clean interior and lack of serious rust is what gives this car value.
Wish I'd never sold my old 89 SSP car out of Washington State. Was ex King County (Seattle) Sheriff car. Had a few nice notchbacks than that one, but it was my first notch and had roll up windows.

Yall talk about this like converting to mass air is some huge job or real expensive it's pretty simple and cheap to switch over.

I'd think it's pretty clean the engine will probably haft to come out anyways... It leaks and most of the time if it's the original engine the oil pump or something else is going to give, requiring to pull the engine and do a full tare down anyway...
Just basically part of a Foxbody build unless you have a mint low mileage car...
A good coyote swap would be great.👍👌💪🙌😎
Offer him about 8 and see what he says...

Hey man look I am a retired mechanic and I'm going to give you a little bit of good advice any old cars like that you really want a train mechanic to check it out before you put your money down because once you put your money down that's a done deal you can't go back and that rust on the bottom of the car that concerns me you definitely don't want rust on the bottom of the car have you mechanic to look at it

$8,000 would be fair. Very good potential.

$5,000 tops. For 10 to $12,000 you should be able to find a cherry mustang that age.

Wrong. Go find us a clean perfect notch for 10k. I'll wait.

Stang mode the reason it probably is dying is probably because it sounds like it has a cam . it's a speeddensity car.change it to a mass air car it .probably will stop dying

Offer him a firm lower price for the car, if it won't cost too much to get it running well, after your guy gets done going through it. I'd love to cruise that notch!

That don't look too clean to me bro! And I've owned a Fox since 1993. Looks like its been hit a few times. Heater core is a big pain in the ass too. Other car looked cleaner in videos. Maybe looked better in person?

I love notch backs. If this was local to me, I'd pay that.
I bought a '92 GT new back in the day. At the time I also was considering a black notch. I ended up with the GT because I got a better deal on it, but still always wish I would have gone with the notch.
