Thanks for taking the time to produce these videos.

The bit with countersinking the bolt is purely for aesthetics. The strength for those bolts is already there. Also EN959 doesn't have a mandate for that at all. Also the water cleaning comment is totally inconsistent with bolt manufacturers and the wet rock takes longer to dry.

so are a few disused quarry's near me and there are some bolted routs but not many. I'm a builder and understand the process completely. I'd really like to bolt some more routs and was wondering if i have to first contact anyone. They seem to be all open to the public and some of the existing routs could do with repairs perhaps. What would be the best course of action? Like i said I am a builder so if it does not exist i make it :) and would find this fun to do. I love climbing and making good routs appeals to me.

If you have a proposal to bolt a quarry then you have to have the landowner's permission, and you need to take the proposal to a BMC Area Meeting, where the matter is handled via a long-standing procedure.

@@colinknowles1459 do I need to take it to the BMC if the land owner says it's ok? What if it is common ground? Sorry loads of questions. It just looks like fun making routs for people to enjoy.

@@funkeybikemonkey Absolutely. If you don't you may find that a lot of people take issue with your action, and come along and forceably remove your bolts.

@@colinknowles1459 humm sounds like a pain. Strange that they would remove the bolts without the land owners permission but bolting with it is still not allowed. I'm unfamiliar with the BMC I'm not sure what the role is. They can really mandate that if a climb was lawfully put up that it should be taken down because some one didn't ask them if they could do something on their own land... I'm not being a tool or antagonistic if it comes across as I am being that's not my intention. How many routs are guerilla bolted as in done of the backs of local climbers. Are councils approachable to contact on bolting public land?

@@funkeybikemonkey Hi I think maybe that its worth you talking to some long-term climbers locally to you to understand what the shared ethics are amongst climbers. I wouldn't want you to make loads of effort to create something when maybe it is already there and you are getting up the noses of existing users. The majority of climbs in this country are not sport routes.
