I'm from Costa Rica and watched all the video with a smile on my face! TRUST ME GUYS, the eggs give it a special touch. - In my family we boiled them a little more -
4:00 I read people complaining about eggs in the soup. Jamie made something different pouching the eggs, in Costa Rica we boiled the eggs before, peel them and/or put those eggs in the soup. If you dont like eggs (cuz you dont or you are vegan) just dont use eggs. You can eat the soup with rice, its delicious or use bread/salty crackers if you dont have tortilla. Ah, and the chilli is optional too.
+Ruben Amador It's a difficult concept for people to understand... They seem to think recipes are rigid and cannot be changed, then get upset by that. Just don't use the fucking egg. Not difficult.
I’ve made this before with canned black beans and thought the recipe was okay but tonight i made with dried soaked black beans in the pressure - Devine!!!
You rock Jamie! It makes me so proud to be Costa Rican and see one of the classic soups my mom made when I was a kid now made by you with a Jamie Oliver twist 👍🏻I love the way you cook! Thanks for putting Costa Rican food on the map 😉
I watched this vid and couldnt quit thinking about it. Several hours later I stopped at the market to get what ingreidients I could remember and added to the ones I already had at home. OMG. The best soup Ive ever had!
My mom is from Costa Rica, I remember her making Sopa Negra, black bean soup. But never with canned beans. It was always made with the beans coming straight out of the pressure cooker.
This was awesome! The poached egg was an incredible addition and it tasted incredibly creamy. I had never even poached an egg before and it came out great.
Can't eat coriander (sadly), but replaced it with celery leaves, and it still tasted absolutely amazing. The egg is such an amazing addition, I might start adding it to other soups I make!
This soup looks amazing! Salvadorans also make a wicked bean soup. Our version is similar - minus the celery and thyme - but add beef bones and stock to add richness and depth to the soup. It’s served with rice, feta cheese, a drizzle of cream and chilli. There are loads of variations which proves how easy and versatile this soup is.
i had that twice since the video is up. i didn´t use the salsa and extra oil und replaced it with some yogurt or some pomegranate. sooo good and sooo healty when you are working out
I made this for dinner yesterday and surprisingly it came out great! The egg was a nice twist that added additional flavour combined with the herbs and peppers. Def fav!
Mi papá estudió su máster en Costa Rica 🇨🇷 y le hice este plato por su cumpleaños. Le encantó! Lo serví como menestra y quedó riquísimo. La salsa también espectacular. I can always count on your recipes Jamie! Thank you 😊
YUM! This is one of our family favorites! I have a bit of a variation. I just love making a big pot of black bean soup with a ham bone. I also add cumin and a baked sweet potato which I puree into half of the soup. I will have to try the egg sometime. :) We have been using avocado, greek yogurt, cilantro, tomatoes and lime juice on top. :)
Rainbow Gardens, I just discovered your comment if its not to late could you tell me how much cumin to use? and how many sweet baked potato and what flavor greek yogurt and cilantro did you use?
This is one of my favorite recipes to cook. It's one to always go back to when in need of a safe card, that you know is going to deliver. Especially on cold days, this soup is so hearty and warming. I have to point out though, that black beans are Not the beans with the highest protein content. Of course soy beans are highest, but also other beans have more. They are a stunning source of anti-oxidants,, though!
My in laws were Cuban/Columbian - a favorite late night snack or hangover cure was black bean soup, perfect garlicky white fluffy rice, an over easy fried egg(s) and plantains, either tostones (green) or Maduro (sweet) - cafe con leche for dessert
I tried this and it was very tasty and filling. I think it is best to prepare all chopping ingredients beforehand unless you're a fast chef like Jamie. I used a mini food mixer too which did make it easier to mix herbs, garlic and onion. I had to add a little more water than 400ml as my soup was thickening very quickly.
@@lyndakirkness5415 Of course you are, your half a brain would explode if you didnt say it like you probably say in every single conversation you probably have.
Made it for lunch today and served it with tortilla minus the eggs and the chilli coriander salsa garnish. It was so delicious. Definitely going to make this again. The only thing I did a little differently is that I simmered it on low for nearly an hour instead of hard boiling it for 10 mins.
Despite what other say (specially the ones that say "their truth" on social media only), you Jamie Oliver are the best! Funny, easy to understand and by far one of the best cooks out there. Every single time I follow your recipes they turn out delicious! So, thank you very much.
i never could understand the hate directed at Jamie. I used to eat terrible food as a younger man, very unhealthy lifestyle. I now consider myself a good home cook and a lot of it i put down to Jamie's tv programmes and books. His series '30 minute meals' was genius. Easy to follow with easy to get ingrdients. So thats 2 of us. Cheers to Jamie.
First time I see all my fav. ingredients in one recipe 😘🍜 The tortillas will taste better if they' re toasted rather than grilled or heated up in a micro.
Perfect. I use dried black beans and chicken broth instead of water. Feta cheese is the best topping Salsa: cilantro, tomato, a wee bit of red pepper, onion, cucumber salt & lime juice salsa
Este comentario es para los ticos que todo lo critican, por favor lean bien que es una receta de James Oliver basada en nuestra sopa negra, en ningún momento dice que es la receta original de nuestra sopa negra. Saludos!
Made this soup twice...AMAZING..I personaly prefer to hardboil the egg and crumble it on top. I also added a bit of avocado and yogurt sauce. Any way you choose to make it its great...Try and enjoy..
Rinse the beans well first if you want to cut down on the gas, then add a bit of extra fluid ( I used chicken stock instead of water) was delicious, very fresh tasting, thanks, Jamie!
That is our typical "Sopa Negra" (Black Soup). Very traditional in Costa Rica, and I love it with the eggs just like the one in the video cause the yolk adds a very good flavor, but most of the people prefer fully cooked hard eggs and then smash it into the soup. Coriander is a must in this soup, it is not the same without it. Great Recipe.
Tried this recipe and it was great. In my Dad's country of origin, former Yugoslavia, my favorite thing is called pasoujl (possibly sp. but found it on the web.) For me, the ultimate bean soup. My language skills are a bit limited but I tracked it down and just watched intently. Well worth it; different versions but everybody's really passionate about it. My Dad translated this recipe for me and the minute I find it, will post it. Anyone out there who knows what I'm talking about, please contribute!
Eggs and soup (and eggs IN soup) are the best. It hadn't occured to me I could just poach the eggs over easy instead of letting them cook through. Add some smoked pork ribs for extra flavor and get ready to nap when you're done. Whoofff!! Love it.
Beautiful dish I am so impressed and hungry 😋 I love the colors and the difference of flavors that that dish could possess and the amount of spice and heat also the tang from the lemon exquisite and the heartiness from the black beans it sounds perfect 👌 I want to try it myself thank you for being a great chef.... Props 🏆
corgisbutt the fact that it was orange instead of yucky yellow proves how healthy that chicken is or was... it could have been eaten by now. I wonder where he gets his eggs from.

Not entirely true fellow costarican, this is the way we cook them as well here in the South, and apparently in the north too

I love this dish! I have made it several times. For the salsa, I add a ripe tomato for added flavor.
He is very agile and with no perfectionism yet everything comes out nicely. Definitely handsome and charismatic. He has a very charming personality.

Just cooked this along with you Jamie - it's just the type of meal I need to start the year healthily
+squirrelchicklet Fantastic! Heres to a happy Healthy New Year! :D
Hi 🙂 ! Great Chef 😋. The frosting on your Black Bean Soup Recipe is the Warm Tortillas. TYFS!!!!👍👍
I've made this heaps of times (though I don't use eggs) and it's so bloody good. So comforting and healthy!
1:42 That's right! Throw that shit on the floor, just like at home xD

Jeje.. ya me antoje! Que madre!

Black beans Shakshouka looks amazing and most likely tastes like this, *if* you have top quality eggs

You took the soup to a whole new level with just eggs, salsa and tortilla. Will be trying this one out for sure.

Went really well! Everyone loved it, looks like we have a new family recipe.
First time I see all my fav. ingredients in one recipe 😘🍜 The tortillas will taste better if they' re toasted rather than grilled or heated up in a micro.

I've poached eggs in my black bean soup before, but only bc I was broke & that was the only food I had to cook. I didn't know it was a thing lol :D

Yes!
Thanks you, Jamie OLIVEr. I've got plenty of those black beans cans since the beginning of the COVID quarantine.
I never EVER throw away my stalks. They're the best part.
Adding egg is really good. Adds more protein. Generally I throw hard boiled eggs in my rice If I am cooking with beans, peas, corn or turkey.
Whilst I am usually not a fan of this Jabroni, this soup looks good.

I think the soup is delicious. I used veggies from my garden and I love black beans! Thumbs up for this recipe.
Is there a good substitute for the coriander? I'm saldy one of those people to whom it tastes like soap :/
It's there for freshness so I usually substitute with parsley :)
+Nevelina Aleksandrova parsley is even worse IMHO.
+Nevelina Aleksandrova Yeh I use Parsley in my chillies etc as well :)

But then again, for some reason I absolutely HATE the taste of all herbs, with the exception of oregano.
I dont like the taste of coriander either!
I live in Russia, I understand a little English, but I watch you with the great pleasure! Thank you for wonderful recipes! I will go to eat:)
without the egg can this be frozen in batches?
+lyns northey Yes, you could do that. Everything is kept the same texture and flavour wise. We do this at home all the time.
+lyns northey Spot on - yes!
