  • It’s the first visit since installation almost 2 years ago!
All of the plants look great and are growing like the weeds around them!
Mel, Mallory and I spent over five hours weeding, resetting, and sprucing up the topdressing with some new rock.
Our results are amazing and the garden is ready to shine until our next visit in another six months!
In this video, I’ll teach you how we weed around a cactus. I’ll also show you my technique of digging up, hacking off and reseting aggressively growing plants to maintain size until the next visit.
Have a great day in the garden and thanks for following and sharing my videos!

I like how she removed the plastic bag without saying anything and just hush- gestured us. Madam Eubanks is very considerate indeed. LoL.

When Laura can't focus and wants to just get working in the garden you know the final product will be awesome.

You know, my husband says I’m now addicted to succulents. During every trip for food, to the doctor or to see friends, I insist on dropping in to my favourite garden centres here.........and I get a different plant every time, or a pot or ornament!! I walk around the front garden early every morning and potter about, weeding and or watering where I can. It’s cooler then, and much more enjoyable. I used to hate weeding in England but now I’m finding it soooooo satisfying!! It’s raining most afternoons here in Spain, so I can’t spray to kill weeds but it’s so easy to pull them out. Yay!

i'll second you on the satisfying nature of pulling weeds by the roots. The best is when you manage to get the entire root in one go.

I’m all for lawns, but hate grass. Creeping Thyme lawns are my favourite. Don’t have to cut it, it’s strong enough to handle some foot traffic, and the colour is gorgeous

I remember when you first did this yard. The little border fence, and the GRASS. Love the fountain and wonderful arrangements. Please use pre-emergent when you take out that grass and create another mounded dry creek bed with boulders and succulents. 😍👍🏼👍🏼💚

The boulders in this garden is really artistic and make a real statement. Also I miss Aloe cameronei in this garden, the pop of colors it would have brought in the pot would have been a show stealer😉

Didn't know that about fire sticks. We have a huge one in a large pot ( maybe 23 inches across. And those babies are not cheap. So it looks as if we can divide them into more pots.. yeah! We are on just under an acre after all....so thanks for the tip

Hi Laura! A little behind on the videos, but I wanted to share something that I have found pretty successful with weeds and stray grass, 75% Vinegar. (you can get it on Amazon) You need to use it in a spray bottle, and a very small "stream" hit of the vinegar to the root of the weed or stray grass, and not too close the succulent, almost within hours and the weed is toast! Just another tool in the tool box!

If you put the Sticks on Fire in a nursery pot and sunk that in the ground, wouldn’t that keep the root system from spreading? I do that when I don’t want something to get too big for a smaller area.

It’s funny how you don’t like grass. Must be a maintenance thing. But what would they have in its place?
So you washed the mealy bugs off. That’s all it takes to get rid of them? Won’t they return or go to the other plants from the ground?

    • @mysticalearthofferings
      @mysticalearthofferings 3 роки тому

not very quickly , a hard blast from the hose will kill a lot of them and if you check back with the hose every so often its easy to stay on top of any returning ones

Grass is not always a good plant to have in a garden as it's high maintenance there are many ways to have your garden without a lawn just watch this channel and your be shown many ways and this garden would look 100 times better with out the lawn

Awesome content as always :). Why don't you ever use the "big as an SUV Euphorbia tirucali 'sticks on fire' as a hedge or tree? You always mention there's no big succulents for hedges or large scale mass plantings; do these fail as a large scale plant, for your design purposes? I see them up here around Riverside CA used as massive specimens in front yards or large scale slope installations. Thank you!!! Happy Pride!

Yes!!! Get rid of the lawn. Especially in the front sidewalk area AND GET RID OF THE TACKY WIRE FENCE IN FRONT of the succulents. Add more dramatic Barrel Cacti clustered (maybe 3 together). Extend the garden near the house so the lawn is half the size initially. Extend the front sidewalk garden to the other side of the fence too. Add more so this becomes a prize winner type garden, not simply an "OK" succulent garden.
