  • It’s been two years since my clippers touched this garden!
Our clients postponed maintenance in anticipation of a home project that didn’t end up happening.
The plants are thriving but some are WAY out of control.
    No worries, though.
    Team DFS to the rescue.

Cannot believe all that was done in a day!! I thought for sure it would be 3 days. It looks fantastic - I am envious of the climate there which is so conducive to thriving succulents. Also, glad you and Team DFS are back on the radar and that the absence was for something good and nourishing. Can’t wait to see what’s next!!

    Beautiful just beautiful !!
The gutters are SO pretty with their pastel colours .
I am envious of the copper spoons .
I have one small plant that never does anything !
    Thankyou from Australia ☀️🌵🪴🌸🦋

Love the idea/combo of aloes hugging the golden barrel. Different texture and shapes come together. And about those snails, they probably had rough situations and decided to end their lives all together😅😅

Laura, when I grow up, I want to be just like you! Not talking about age here but about maturing into a gardener with the knowledge, wisdom and faith to "trust the process". This winter, with all the rains (zone 10b inland San Diego), I've been repeatedly relocating or covering pots to protect my "babies". It feels very neurotic to worry about plants so much, especially after years of growing carefree CA/southwest natives, which ask nothing of me once established.
Thank you so much for the inspiration and instruction. I will get my succulents in the ground some day! 🙂

FYI, if the client gets intense sun, they may need to paint the trunk of the citrus trees white, now that you have exposed them to sunlight.
So fun watching the team shift the pachypodium!

What happened with the espalier of the apple tree in the back right corner? The orange tree looks great now, but I couldn’t see what was done with the apple. Also, I was kind of hoping to see a mangave or two go into the front yard. I wish I could have such luck growing portulacaria - mine here in northern California just sits there and pouts, refuses to grow despite the location in my yard. And, yes, it was painful to see the removal of the pedilanthus bracteatus, since I recently paid $50 for three one-foot rooted stalks at a local nursery!

Can't believe you did that in a day! I have sunset crassulas that I picked up as cuttings when you were doing maintenance on that garden -- 4 years ago? Are there any cuttings looking for a new home? I'm thinking we should plant crassula cuttings on the sides of Balboa in that area where there is a mud or weedy space between fence properties and the sidewalk. The crassula hedges in that garden are wonderful -- even if they are on steroids from daily water.

I have a large agave/aloe type cactus which is about 2 feet tall, with a very bare truck of about 1feet and leaning badly. It is in a pot & I have to prop it up against a wall to stop it falling over. Would it be ok to chop it off it’s tall leggy truck and plant the head of the agave back into the ground please?

Patience Laura. Take the time to just slow down and breathe. You are human, not a machine. I don't know how the algorithm for UA-cam works. Seems like a recipe for burnout.
