Midnight Run is one of my favorite movies from the 80's! It's a must-see!
I like how John keeps the wig on throughout the whole video!
Don't forget about Teen Wolf with Michael J. Fox :-)
Breakfast Club is my favorite movie of all time. Good on you for giving it the #1 spot.
Electric Skittles I love The Breakfast Club
The cover of that Aliens blu-ray box looks absolutely phenomenal, i'd love to have a poster like that.
Yeah Ive seen all of them, I love Lucas.
Thanks, Raiders is more of a timeless film to me, I was aiming for 80's stylized movies only. I have had the urge to do a 90's movies video for a while.
Saw the "Footloose" movie 2 days ago and loved it! I never knew Kevin was so fit!
Awesome reviews John! I love almost all of those movies!
I have no idea which character to choose from the 80's....so many.
Breakfast club was my first 80s teen movie!!!! Loved it
I like it and had it sitting out when considering my movie options, but I just don't love it enough.
Thats a timeless movies to me, Its bigger than just an 80s movie.
Favorite 80's character is definitely John McClane from Die Hard. He's an underdog and at the same time he's a bad ass. The character I identify with most is actually two characters. Ferris Bueller and Cameron Frye. I want to do things the way Ferris does them but I worry too much about doing them like Cameron does. You can't beat 80's movies.
That was an amazing stallone impression! Spot on
Batman
Beetlejuice
Back To The Future (my favorite movie of all time)
Back To The Future Part II
Raiders of The Lost Ark
Temple of Doom
Last Crusade
Ghostbusters
Predator
Terminator
Full Metal Jacket
U forgot
Terminator
Die hard
The shining
Star war5-6
Rocky3
scarface
Sixteen candles
Top gun
Princesses bride
Gremlins
Say anything
Batman
The outsiders
Indiana Jones1-3
Rambo
When Harry met Sally
Mad Max
TheA-Team
80's ROCK! I like...
•Terminator.
•Lethal Weapon.
•Die Hard.
•The Last Star Fighter.
•V.
•Mission Impossible.
•Overboard.
•Rad. (Not none to many people, but really good.)
•Monty Python and The Holy Grail. (1970's)
•Airplane. (1970's)
Great list, there are just too many 80's movies to love. I adore every single one on your list. But Indiana Jones, Batman, Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, The Terminator, Poltergeist, The Princess Bride, Dirty Dancing, The Shining, Bladerunner, The Thing, The Fly, Honey I Shrunk the Kids, The Shining etc. the list goes on. IMO The Outsiders is the best 80's film though.
These 80s videos are hilarious! Do each decade!
I agree, they really aren't even using bluray to the full potential yet. Plus people talk about 4k tv's but there is no way companies are going to go in and remaster everything for 4k home release, hell half the time they do a piss poor job on 1080p. And for the average consumer to notice a difference between 4k and 1080p well lets just say they wont see it being worth the upgrade... so blu-ray is the last disc we will have for movies.
1. Back to the Future Part II
2. Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi
3. A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors
4. The Breakfast Club
5. Ghostbusters
I'm impressed you included Just One of the Guys. It screams the 80s, right down to her convertible Mustang. It was one of my favorite movies for some damn reason. Your Dad is some kind of a story teller. You come by it honestly. Breakfast Club, great movie. Very stereotypical 80s. Good picks John. BTW, you make that wig look good, if that's at all possible...
Great list, Legend is a movie I always loved as a child...going to rewatch it on bluray hopefully I'll still like it :)
Peter's Top 15 '80's Movies:
15. Scarface
14. Ferris Bueller's Day Off
13. The Terminator
12. Platoon
11. The Shining
10. The Breakfast Club
9. Ghostbusters
8. E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial
7. Aliens
6. Die Hard
5. Blade Runner
4. Raiders of the Lost Ark
3. Raging Bull
2. Back to the Future
1. The Empire Strikes Back
1:20 Oh man, that scene scared me when I was a kid.
Just one of the guys Wow u took it way back, old skool straight up .
you have a damn good point!
They may introduce bluray discs that hold 320 gb but it will still most likely be in a 1080p resolution.. think of it this way instead of have a tv series on 3 bluray discs it will all be on just 1. Less product same resolution.
John McClane - Die Hard. He's a character I can relate too. He's one of the best action heroes in movies. And he has one of the most memorable and best lines ever that looked like Quentin Tarantino wrote. That's why I like him. The 80s rock and do you favorite 90s movies next time if you want.
Great list John, but I'd add The Blues Brothers, Witness and The Terminator.
Empire? Raiders? Die Hard? Monster Squad?.... those would be in my top 10 for sure.
I'm not going to be rude like all these others saying you forgot this movie and that movie because this is YOUR list. I'll simply give a few big cheese titles I think you might like based on ones you've already said how much you enjoyed. Most of these I recorded off cable then bought on vhs and then later bought on dvd. Honestly not even sure how many (if any) are even available on blu ray. Vamp, The Wraith, April Fool's Day, Night of the Comet, Waxwork, Once Bitten, Crystal Heart, Roller Boogie (man, I loved her car!!), and can't forget War Games. And honorable mention goes to The Allnighter...after seeing Vamp, I wanted to see everything Dedee Pfeiffer was in and she looked pretty good in that one. For cheesy musicals I have memorized it's a tie between Grease 2 and Staying Alive (where John Travolta has never looked better and the dance sequences with Finola Hughes and Cynthia Rhodes are so great that I would have paid good money to see Satan's Alley on broadway if they all performed.)
Great stuff! I think you would enjoy Big Trouble in Little China as well. Or Total Recall. No wait, that was made in the 90-s.
Real Genius yo!!!!!!!!!
great video!! i think you should do favorite 90's movies that would be cool. as for who is my favorite 80's movie character.. i have no idea. there are way too many to pick from i don't even know where to start.
This is the first time I ever see your videos and I was laughing my #@* out :)
Great video mate, keep this up and thank you for doing the 80's character impressions!
Great list man !
Weird science, the explorers, summer rental, short circuit, great outdoors, uncle buck
Yay!! I've been waiting for part 2 :)
Yeah, heres my problem with adding movies like Empire or Raiders they are timeless movies and the 1980's culture isn't present in them. I was aiming for movies that really captured the style and tones of the 80's cheesy era. I didn't want to include Stand By Me, because its also a timeless movie, but I had a cool clip to share so what the hell. I actually had Empire and Raiders in a stack and to convince myself not to include them, it hurt me.
Part Ferris Bueller and part Mouth from The Goonies. Bueller, b/c I'm the voice of reason/leader of my friends the majority of the time, and Mouth b/c I'm never afraid to be the smart or wise-ass around a group.
And please make a Favorite 90s video!
Western - The Good The Bad and The Ugly. War - Saving Private Ryan
I think you bare a strong resemblance to Scarlett Johansson, especially with the wig on.
Figured you would have 'The Road Warrior" in your list.Plus it has Crazy Mel.Oh,how the mighty have fallen.
Yeah the question was what was my fav war movie and western.... there were no terms set in place for a specific decade.. and the good the bad and the ugly was made in the 60's so if we were referring to 80's movies I would be way the hell off.
Rick Moranis! Whatever happened to that guy? He was in everything back in the 80s and 90s! Anyway, I haven't most of these, but I definitely love E.T., Ghostbusters, and Aliens. My list would've included the first three Indiana Jones films, Empire and Jedi, and probably several other things. And as far as my favorite 80s character goes, there are several: Marty McFly, Doc Brown, Daniel LaRusso, Han Solo, Darth Vader, E.T., Indiana Jones, and many more, I'm sure.
No Terminator and Die Hard wtf?
Apart from them great list!
besides obvious ones that aren't in your list like Raiders/Empire... movies i'd have in my list that you didn't... Big Trouble in Little China, Major League, Bloodsport, Willow... those are the few movies I LOVE from the 80s.
I consider myself a realist but can be seen as a pessimist so Im gonna go with Hudson from Aliens "GAME OVER MAN, GAME OVER!!!!"
love the list man
good point - raiders is an all-time classic. can't wait to see what else you come up with. I gotta know though - I live in Denmark, shops, malls and what have you close at 22.00 latest - is all shops 24hour shops in the US? - your nighttime shenanigans keeps me hypnotically entertained :D
Seriosly? Sigourney Weaver were nominated for best actress. And Bill Paxton had his best role in this film. My God! Even Carrie Henn was superb in Aliens. And she was only 8.
Nice picks man!!!
1980 movies r the best. My all time fave is the outsiders.
WarGames is a great 80’s movie!
Hmm I would be into seeing that.
Dont worry John, I loved Rick Moranis as well (Still do), your not alone.
1. Breakfast Club
2. Karate Kid
3. Uncle Buck
4. Footloose
You're right, I haven't thought about that.
also on a side note john, i will be watching American Psycho for the first time tonight, you and KrazieJason's recommendations
TOP 90'S MOVIES IS COMING!
Fantastic! looking forward to it
great vid lv the 80S BEST time EVER
great list, watched both part 1 and 2 and no Raiders of the lost ark?! did i miss it? If not, that movie is one the most important movies in history. I can understand empire strikes back is not there with SW starting in the 70s but Raiders - it has to be. Oh i would like to see your 70s list (yea I'm 40 i like 60s and 70s stuff - especially sci-fi and horror).
Why didn't the terminator get put on the list, it was shockingly Amazing and what makes it even more impressive is that it had an extremely low budget of 6.5 million dollars
john you should try watching Never Sleep Again - The Elm Street Legacy, its pretty much a behinds the scenes for every freddy movie 1-7
save the "Throw Mama from the train" old woman impersonation to Coolduder
The Lost Boys would be on my list
Just partnered with them.
Should of included My Science Project or Revenge of the Nerds Real Genius either way all good flicks...
Just one of the guys is awesome
0:06 John looks like Gary Busey with that wig.
i love the breakfast club it was my first 80's movie
Ghostbusters 2 is not as bad as people say i love watching it
Funny video dude. I thought Planes, Trains and Automobiles was going to suck because of Steve Martin but it was funny. Believe it or not, the Canadian rating for that movie is PG. The Canadian ratings board is very flexible, they don't have a lot of rules, it's normal for a movie to get misrated. The original Nightmare and the remake are the only Freddy movies I seen and I couldn't get into them because it's hard for me to feel scared.
Nope no part 3 part 2 was the end of my era. But best of the 90's will be coming sometime in the future.
Ghostbusters II is a good sequel. Of course it's not on par with the first, but it was damn enjoyable. I dig them both equally. Vigo was cool, Statue of Liberty, river of slime...fuckin awesome.
My list would've included most of what you said, but also Little Monsters
Yeah, have you read about the new 320GB discs. There gonna make Blu-Rays look like DVD's. According to the article Blu-Rays are gonna be replaced do to the fact that they look like DVD's when watched on a TV over 50inches, which is the direction were headin in. So I wonder how many people are gonna re-buy there whole collection all over again. I don't own one Blu-Ray and I rarely actually buy a DVD, I do the Rent and Copy deal.
BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA - Kurt Russel owned!
I'm going to guess you aren't really a zombie movie an because I would have said George A Romero's Day of the Dead because that was a classic for its time and budget.
Also Aliens all the way!!! Your impression was a bit deep for Sigourney Weaver though, wasn't it?
honestly dont get me wrong love the breakfast club but always loved sixteen candles just a little bit more
I LOVE THE GOONIES TOO
do one for the 90's John :D
I LOVE STAND BY ME
Good move on the Aliens bro, I won't castrate you now.
Indiana Jones from Raiders
T-101 from The Terminator
Dutch from Predator
Ripley from Aliens
Bishop from Aliens
John McClane from Die Hard
Freddy Kruger from A Nightmare on Elm Street
Is that a part 3? Because I have yet to see Commando which is a masterpiece...and it happens to be from the 80s.
I Like 80s Films Jaws 3 Ghostbusters 1984 The Thing Batman 1989 Star Wars Return of the Jedi Poltergeist The Transformers The Movie Gi Joe The Movie Blue Brothers Superman 3 Beetlejuice Kickboxing Top Guns
characters that made me who i am from the eightys: indiana jones, john mclane, chris chambers.
"so you cooked up a story and dropped the six of us in a meatgrinder"
Not The Empire Strikes Back, Sixteen Candles, Weird Science, Spinal Tap, or The Terminator?!
Batman, terminator, die hard where release in the Very late 80s which were follow by sequels later on in the very early 90s.John mentioned Rocky 4 in his 80s review. No one think Batman movies with Michael Keaton and says 80s movies.
die hard terminator Star Wars 5 and 6 Indiana jones and from someone who loves batman how did u forget batman from 1989 common Man U missed a lot of movies that define the 80's
What about Dream A Little Dream with Corey Feldman and Corey Haim i love that movie not great but has a place in my heart
Dr. Raymond Stanz (Dan Akroyd)
and Dr.Pete Venkman (Bill Murray)
Just because I'm a smart ass, but I have an obsessive knowledge of the paranormal.
I SAW SLOTH AND IM LIKE WHO CRAP SLOTH FROM THE GOONIES, I LOVE GOONIES
Matthew Broderick from War Games. How could you not mention this film
Or Labyrinth, or Flight Of The Navigator or Short Circuit
Could you imagine if in the Shining it was "Here's Johnny... 5"
Canadian ratings I find are flexible big time on language and nudity but when it comes to violence they tend to be more strict, sometimes even moreso than the states
Ok I want more how about a part 3 ?
