  • Don't pay those company's to do your mosquito control when you can do it yourself. The cost of the machine is basically equal to one year of mosquito service. I live in NE Arkansas and I can tell you that we have some of the worst mosquitoes anywhere in the world due to the massive amount or rice fields in the area. With these sprayers you can almost eliminate the mosquitoes completely.

    Excellent DIY video. We pay $70/mo for about 8-10 months a year here. About a one year break-even. Bought a Stihl SR450 for $650 from the local dealer, and that thing is a rocket. Thanks again!

    MIght want to check your label and PPE again. Under the PRECAUTIONARY STATEMENTS section in the label for Talstar P. IT states.....All pesticide handlers (mixers, loaders and applicators) must wear long- sleeved shirt and long pants, socks, shoes and chemical-resistant gloves. After the product is diluted in accordance with label directions for use, and/or when mixing and loading using a closed spray tank transfer system
    (such as an in-line injector system), shirt, pants, socks, shoes and water- proof gloves are sufficient. In addition, all pesticide handlers must wear a respiratory protection device1 when working in a non-ventilated space. All
    pesticide handlers must wear protective eyewear when working in non-ventilated space.
    That's verbatim from the label and the LABEL IS THE LAW.

    In regards to all of the safety comments, both of these chemicals are approved for use indoors even in kitchens specifically. Both of these chemicals even state that respritory and eye protection are NOT required in well ventilated areas. They do recommend taking contaminated clothes off and washing your skin afterwards. I usually take a shower after I spray just to be safe.

    I love Solo for my apple trees and mine is not as nice as yours, but would this work with a propane fogger? I understand you are not professional, but it sounds like you have done a lot of research. That Solo 451 is crazy cool, and it would be a nice addition for my apple trees using a different product, but it is a little on the expensive side, so, for now, I will continue to use the sprayer. Great video!

      I've not used a propane fogger but at quick glance, I see absolutely no reason that it wouldn't. I've even mixed up some of this solution in a regular spray bottle and if mosquitoes start nesting up in the corner of my garage by my door then I spray that corner and then the problem is solved! That might be a good low cost alternative to the full sprayer rig!

    Please note that the label states that you wear personal protective equipment such as long pants, long sleeves, gloves, protective eyewear and respirator or comparable mask to decrease inhalation risk. People should never do this type of service without those items as the chemical is potentially harmful in liquid for whether through absorption into skin or inhalation. I would rather pay a professional than take shortcuts and harm myself in the long run.

I never saw a respirator nor even safety glasses used with these products. Gloves were worn to do the mixing, and that was it. Surprised me. I ordered a 3M respirator/organic gas cartridges and will use those and some safety glasses. The chemistry is the LOWEST rated on the safety scale. "Warning".

    Please wear long pants, a long sleeve shirt and at least gloves. You should also get a respirator. The respirator is not required but long sleeves and pants are required by the label. The application you just made was illegal. You can do it yourself but you have to follow the labels including the PPE section.

    Just watching this video I've noticed he didn't read the label which requires you wear the proper PPE when mixing like Gloves, long sleeves, pants not shorts. Those who try to DIY won't really have an effective treatment unless they know how to apply it not just that it blows out of a mister LOL

      True that, i work at a pesticide place and we have to wear respirators and eye protection. I've gotten it in my eye all over my back and neck from leaks. This guys careless with it all...

    No gloves or PPE from the label.. no air gap when filling the tank, chemical is in the bottom of neck in the tank. Folks.. there is a reason why applicators are required to have a pesticide applicators license. So far I have seen about 8k in fines. Do not mix or apply like this.. ever!

    • @44stevenson
      @44stevenson  5 років тому

      You could, but you don't need to. On the low side it's good for 4 weeks, up to 6-7 weeks still effective

      @@44stevenson ok. I have a guy come here and he sprays for $60 but it only lasts a week before I notice the mosquitoes again. He says its supposed to last 3 weeks

      Talstar P I believe says the full 1 oz per gallon should last about 4 weeks. Obviously your milage may vary based on environment. They recommend anywhere from .33-1 FL oz per gallon.

    Yeah it’s funny how he talks about pest-control companies charging a lot! This backpack sprayer is $700 do you really want to spend $700 ? Or would you want to spend $250 for a professional licensed applicator to spray yard for the year? Hmmmmm

    • @44stevenson
      @44stevenson  6 років тому +11

      Professional application for my yard is every 6 weeks at $80 a pop, so $640-$720 per year. So yes its a big savings, plus I only have to spray as needed.

      Me personally I'd do friends and families yards for beers and food. It would pay for itself. Also it would only take 3 years on a return. That's not bad.

      Yeah but in most states when you (going to assume a non licensed - for pest control- person) do a family or friend's lawn whether for free, money or beer you are breaking state and federal law. You can only do your own lawn with general use pesticides . So yeah, have fun with that. FWIW I'm a licensed PCO. Who will know u say? Other PCOs that will turn you in faster than your head can spin. Big fines too.

      I understand your point Jeremy though I paid $100/application 5 times a year, 6th time free (October) in Dallas, Tx area for three years or so. I have now done this for two years now at my new house though with a backpack pump sprayer and chemicals and very pleased. Plus it keeps me off the couch.
