Were the video in your clips on auto, or were they using the ND filter? I am in a similar position where I want to be more in the moment for crucial events with the family. After being stubborn and OCD about the 180* rule I am starting to accept that I would rather have the moment than fuss about proper shutter speed and filters.
@@Alakazam2047 I used the ND filter! I totally feel you about the 180 degree rule, but thats also what I love about the built in Nd haha -- you can use it pretty much without compromise :)
I just wanted a quick review on video on this cam. Instead we got to share a pure moment in your life. Appreciate that man. Beautiful video and family.
Right it’s wayyyyyyyyy better than I was expecting & hoped tbh! It’s been playing on my mind as to wether to buy it as wanted to ability to use video aswell & you’ve definitely sold me on it!
More than I expected watching this video. Thank you for sharing these moments with us. Beautiful video. Congratulations on the new addition to the family.
Dude, thanks for sharing. Came for the X100V film stuff and then was reminded viscerally of the birth of my son. Well done mama (!!!) and congrats new dad. Hope you’re having a great time.
Lovely video, and teared up with the footage of your beautiful baby boy and his loving mother. I have been neglecting my X100V and this has encouraged me to have another look.
Oh Chris! This video almost had me crying. Just congratulations to you + your beautiful wife. The work here with the V is just outstanding + so moving. Thankyou for sharing with all of us such precious moments. I truly love your work as a photographer and I always learn so much. I have the F -- not the V but I'd love to pick one up at some point. Also, I love that you used a cinebloom as well as an adapter -- I really want to try these. Congratulations again. Can't wait to see more content!
Thank you Linda! I always appreciate your comments and support. The x100F is a great camera! I love the WLC conversion, I never realized it but I really do prefer 28mm to 35mm. thank you again for your kind words!
Chris...Liverpool Kev from the UK..I have the x100V and was a bit unsure about about video after some recent shaky footage from a boat in our Lake District....What a lovely video you have made...memories so special....Thank you for sharing....

...and now I'm coming back to acknowledge how great that video footage is of your wife and child. Well done. I agree with sentiments about this camera. It's helped me get back to enjoying both photography and videography and to get away from striving for that clinical look as a standard.
Awesome video and congratulations … thanks for sharing such a beautiful and intimate moment! I’ve had the X100V for almost a year now … great camera mostly used for stills but I did take it sailing once and recorded a video. Good thing iMovie has image stabilization! 📷⛵️🙂
Some really amazing moments you captured there Chris! Congrats on the new addition to your family. I agree, I think the smaller form factor of the x100v allows for those moments to really be effortlessly captured. Having a larger cam, I sometimes wish I had something smaller like it. But how to get my hands on one haha. Might as well wait for the next gen at this point. Thanks for sharing!
thanks Jeff! Haha for sure, the used market price is too high and even if you get one at retail -- it's a weird spot where the new one might be too close. Definitely think waiting is the right option! haha
This is beautiful, and congratulations! Also yessss. I've been doing small video tests with the x100v on my daily walks leading up to a trip I'm taking this week and while I'm also packing a dedicated camera for filming specific things, I am already feeling that the x100v is going to be something I'll be using for video more than I anticipated.
it's really liberating to use as video! especially because the stills obviously are already amazing, really helps keep the kit compact and the focus on creating tight. hope it worked out for you!!
Great video I have been using my x100v for video for a while now when i am out with my family, it produces amazing footage, even with all its flaws its great for just straight up documenting life. and even as a B or C camera in someones bag this is a robust camera in a tiny package. People don't give it enough credit for what it truly is capable of. I think most of the reviews out there are either regurgitating information or just haven't used it enough to give it a proper review.
Couldn’t agree more, and I think you’re right on there - the camera is great for documenting, period. As far as others, they will always smear with specs etc, but the stat sheet will never truly show what happens in the game. One person says one thing and it becomes a script for everyone else. The only true downside is the the overheating, it doesn’t really affect me because as I said in the video, I tend to shoot in shorter bursts, but if you record 4K I find I get a around 5-6 minutes before it starts to give me the overheating warning :)
@@chrismeetschris yea the record time and over heat kills me but I’m like you where I record in burst, I have my other Fuji cameras for longer interview recording session and some times I’ll use the x100v for b roll, what I tell everyone is every camera is different all have pros and cons but it’s down to the artist to learn the quirks and us it to their advantage, at least that’s my philosophy :)
This is definitely a hot take and by far the most inspiring X100V video I’ve seen in a long time! I’m very excited to go out and try videoing with mine. I was also wondering how you bring your camera with you every day? I saw a Long Weekend pouch (great taste), but do you carry that in a sling or in your backpack or something?
Hi Brian! I just throw it on a strap and go, I don't worry to much about it swinging around etc. I use that long weekend pouch for accessories and random things sometimes. but I find if the camera isn't on me ready to go, I won't use it. hope video is going well with it!

Chris, since you are loving shooting video on the V it would be helpful if you share your technique(s) when handholding this guy? Do you add stabilization in post? Would you consider a small gimbal stick?
Hey there! I do not use post stabilization. Im sure a small gimbal would be cool - but I really dislike gimbals. I just make sure when I shoot I’m very steady. I think about a few shots to make up a sequence so that I don’t need to move the camera as much. Almost everything is composed of a wide / medium / tight, this is also why I prefer using the WCL (28mm converter) the shakes are less noticeable than the built in 35mm, as well as it adds a bit more weight to the set up making it more stable :) I’ll also sometimes put the strap around my neck and hold the camera out - this also helps stabilize the footage. Hey Chris -- This is the exact type of review I was looking for on cameras like this.
I've had an M10R for the past couple years and the verdict is in, I can't commit to only photo to document life. I want the same checklist that you listed here -- small, enjoyable to use, exceptional performance in both photo AND video. So I have to start looking at the Q3, Fuji Lineup, or A7C options.
The built in ND makes this bad boy tempting. Do you just flick to 1/50 + ND every time? Or how do you set up for quick video access?
Hey Matt, thanks for the comment. The m10-R is a great camera, but I feel you!

as far as the x100v goes, its not "the best IQ" for video -- but as you can see in the video, it looks great and if you can live with its limitations I think its a GREAT option. I map the ND to to the front button on the OVF/EVF lever to make it easy to flick on and off, and the beauty is once you flip to video, I have it set to "silent video mode" which makes the video settings independent of the dials. to change aperture and shutter speed you use the on screen menu, so your photo and video specs are never colliding with each other. It makes switching between the two such a breeze.
