FYI, Dimash does not have a label. He has stated that he does not want others to have artistic control over him. Concomitantly, you have to realize that the music industry and its Marketing machine rest in the hands of eight multinational corporations, seven of which are in the United States. Traditionally, they influence musical tastes, creates genres, and develop the hype and buzz around performers and their catalog for the sole purpose of MAKING MONEY!! In their ethnocentric view, music flows from the United States outward into the world, and not vice versa!
That is not to say that Dimash has not tried to break into the US market. He performed on a show called the “Worlds Best” which was an unmitigated disaster when the show’s producers lied to him and assured him prior to his participation that he would not be competing against children (an absolute no-no in Kazakh culture). When he found out in the semi-finals that he was going to compete against children, including another young female Kazakh singer that he had personally mentored, he left the show! Additionally, he did his first concert in New York back in December 2019 and had started work with Walter Afanasieff on songs for the US market. However, Covid and now the war in Ukraine seem to have placed these plans on hold. I’m afraid it will be several years before the West truly discovers him. Meanwhile, he continues to conquer the world with his voice one person at a time here on UA-cam!

PLEASE, don't take this as cold or cynical, it IS, really is a HORRIBLE situation going on.
However, I believe it's a relevant question, how will this "conflict" effect Dimash's future? Considering he has a large part of his engagements and Dears in the biggest country involved? With sanctions that obviously causes problems to everyone involved. (Not that all his Dears is out "there" !!😱🫣) Not to mention all his collaborations? Not only 'effect', actually 'affect'?
(NOT to forget the people in the other country, Dears and everybody else!!
My love goes to ALL the people, persons, who got into that mess involuntarily ❤️
I sit safely in 🇸🇪, with no connections at all, and I shed tears every day.)
If you're sensitive to bad language, don't read more, but it's from my heart, and I believe everyone agrees in your hearts. You can watch the video, with a not so "perfect" voice, but a voice that fits the purpose perfectly fine. Bruce Springsteen, 'War', 1986, but the song is as relevant as ever. Originally written and played by 'The Temptations', 1970 with Vietnam in mind. Springsteen made a cover, much rawer, to make people remember the awfulness about wars, and how forgotten the men and women who came out of it alive, but not always in health were. As relevant now as ever. "What is it good for? Absolutely nothing!"

You are much stronger than I am.
A couple of years ago, UA-cam started plopping Dimash videos in front of my eyeballs, probably because I had watched a video featuring a young Kazakhstani singer, a girl, who had won some sort of contest in Ukraine and whose voice was much more mature than it ought to have been, given her age. Which was around 10, I think. So then these Dimash recommendations showed up. Why? I didn't know, but I wasn't in the habit of spending a lot of time on contemporary music with artists I'd never heard of, so I ignored Dimash entirely. Didn't watch.
The recommendations kept appearing, though, and finally, after months of ignoring this artist, whom I really didn't care to experience, I clicked on one. I figured I'd watch it for ten seconds, then dismiss it and do something else.
That video was his performance of 'SOS' at the 2017 Chinese TV show 'Singer.' The video you watched today was performed later. (Dimash has the habit of changing his interpretation of a song with each new performance, so be aware - it's always worthwhile to see every version you can find of a song.)
I didn't click away. I was riveted in my seat. I had to play it through several times. This singer has it all - he's a very competent baritone, a fabulous tenor, and the best countertenor the world has ever heard. All in one singer.
I don't make reaction videos, but if I did, the temptation to view his other videos *right now* would have overwhelmed me. I feasted on everything I could find, and since then, I have fixated on every new release. Nearly every new performance shocks and surprises me all over again. No way could I have summoned the discipline you've just demonstrated, holding off viewing his body of work so I could share it with others, one at a time. Nope. Impossible.
Much respect for your iron will!
I haven't run across Dimash singing older classical opera pieces, but he did perform a couple of Igor Krutoy's operatic works at Igor's birthday celebration concert at an ice rink a couple of years ago. He sings with Aida Garifullina (classical soprano) and Lara Fabian (contemporary artist) in 'Te Amo Cosi,' and with Aida in 'Ulisse.' Big concert! Full orchestra, Igor at the piano, full choir, wonderful ice skaters on the rink, the camera hardly knows where it should look, there's so much going on. Wonderful stuff. At the concert, Dimash also performed 'Ogni Pietra' solo. That's another Krutoy composition.
Buckle in, your Dimash journey will be hella fun!

Dimash (de 27 años originario de Kazajistan) además de su talento natural excepcional, le respaldan 20 años de formación académica musical. Others have named several songs where Dimash focuses more on classical-style singing. He was actually offered a position in an opera company-I do love his classical singing, probably more than when he goes with other genres, but if he joined an opera company you really wouldn’t hear his range-unless they decided to let him sing the entire Magic Flute by himself-which I’m pretty sure he could do. There are actually clips of him doing warmups where he sings a few bars of Queen of the Night, including the infamous F6. And by the way he can go considerably higher-check his duet with Li Yugang singing Drunken Concubine and Diva Dance.
I’d actually suggest that you hear Sinful Passion next-first off, there are bits that are going to blow your mind in that, and then, at the end, you’ll see the then-retired Igor Krutoy starting the standing ovation. It’s worth it to hear what Krutoy heard that made him come out of retirement. And then maybe Ogni Pietra, which was one of the first songs he wrote for Dimash and is much more classical. The problem with his more recent work, like Stranger, is that his production company is going to make you obscure the video, so your viewers aren’t going to get to see what you see. (Personally I think that’s a huge mistake-for exactly the reason you stated here. He hasn’t caught on yet in the US, and reaction videos are how many of us in the US are finding him right now. Reaction videos are how groups like Voiceplay are getting a lot of subscribers and patrons-they are exposure, and they should be welcomed by groups that aren’t already hugely popular.)
Anyway, great reaction-I really enjoy seeing people who know about voice analyze Dimash. This guy is the most skilled and disciplined singer I’ve ever heard. Combine that with his unicorn-level range PLUS perfect pitch. Wow.

This song is a pearl of the French songbook is a Canadian-French cyberpunk-rock opera written in 1976 by Michel Berger (French) and with lyrics by Luc Plamondon (Canada) and was immortalized in the voices of Daniel Balavoine and Diane Dufresne. The theme of the song is depression and the desire for suicide and, in the 2021 version, Dimash faithfully and brilliantly presents a sentimental and melancholic interpretation! As the singing decisions follow the original structure of the song to show the psychological instability of the distressed character: From the chest voice to the head voice and then the falsetto, the author aimed to show a broad need to overcome a long of despair and need to reach a very high perspective! Dimash, currently in his concerts, dedicates this song to his friends and acquaintances who departed this world!

He had a masterclass in broadway stage production and two masters in classical and contemporary music. I know opera singers are dramatic with body movements, but his arms and hands are very subtle never taking vocals off the voice but going along with the word painting. However, he doesn't want to and I think he shouldn't surrender to the music industry so that his creativity isn't destroyed. Each one of us can contribute by telling others about him. I very much hope that he will have a breakthrough worldwide and also in America. Unfortunately, he is always hampered by world events. First Covid then the war in Ukraine now.
As Dear from Germany, it's really hard for me to be patient. I want to hear him on the radio here and see it on TV.

Your comments are so interesting. I hope to see more. Dimash is such a Dear. Your thoughts are completely correct. I hope you react to Ave Maria next. This was composed by Igor Kurtoy also. Dimash called him and told him what he had in mind. And the rest is history. This song is one of the most beautiful songs I’ve heard. Also, Ikanaida is a must. This is the first time Dimash sang in Japanese. It’s from the Tokyo Jazz Festival. This makes fourteen different languages he sing in. He’s the sweetest, kindest, respectful young man I’ve ever become acquainted with. I would like to adopt him. See you again. Bev

oh precious! How nice all your analysis capturing details of this presentation. #Dimash doesn't display his vocal virtuosity just as a mere act of beauty; but he uses each register in the precise place for its greatest power: to transmit emotion. He was 22 years old there Say, you have only seen the tip of the aceberg, he has grown in every way and has so many beautiful songs... he is inexhaustible. And beautiful human.
    Continue with Dimash, never disappoint.

It always strikes me how well Dimash uses the silences in the music too. He never rushes through them, but gives them the space they need. Those pauses when you are holding your breath and waiting for the next note are just as important as the notes he actually sings to carry the emotion of the piece.

Dimash is very very appreciative and humble. I was fortunate enough to attend his concert in New York and he was just so endearing toward the fans. He thought nothing of getting on his knees and bowing to the fans in appreciation and during one performance even had tears in his eyes. It was a very multi-cultural audience and it was the warmest atmosphere I think I have every experienced. Stranger is wonderful and he will shock you. As far as his speaking voice it has gotten deeper with time and it is very rich. That being said, he can still be found in videos being quiet silly and fun. He has also been known to take a pause in concert to sing along with the audience Happy Birthday to his friend and back up singer and arranger's young son, Ramir which Dimash is very close to.

Love your comments. Dimash is an independent artist, that it very good when it comes to him being able to do whatever he wants, exploring music and following his heart. It's not so good when it comes to promotion, not having a major record label in your back makes promotion hard, being from a country in central asia makes it even harder.
So the best we can do is help spread his music everywhere, talk about him to music lovers we know and ofcourse buy his music and support his music on his official profiles. (UA-cam, iTunes, Spotify, Apple, Deezer and more).

If you want to be mesmerised though i would suggest you react to his "Ave maria" rendition, written for him by master Igor krutoy, *bring tissues you will need them* There is nothing better-speaking volumes about world peace through music than a gregorian hymn written by someone of Jewish faith and sung by someone of the Muslim faith. Hello, I'm a German "Dear", and this is the first time I saw one of your reactions. You'r good, I suscribed at once. You said you want to hear him sing Opera. Most Dears will recomment Ogni Pietra, and that would be a great choice. But there is a performance that is even closer to Opera. It is a Duett with the Prima Dona of the Opera Wiena. Aida Garifullina. In this song you can hear him in pure Bariton. It simply is gorgeous, both of them.

Dimash was treated horribly in the US when he was on the competition show, The Best. After RuPaul said, after his performance, “just because you CAN, doesn’t mean you SHOULD”. He was aggravated by the fact that Dimash was singing such outstanding runs, and hitting such high notes, that it left others at a disadvantage (so basically he was berating him for using his abilities that few others possess, and felt like he was just showing off, and needed to lower it a few levels to give everyone a chance to shine- does “participation trophy” sound familiar?). Then when Dimash said he was forfeiting and leaving the show, RuPaul threw his bitch fit, and told him he couldn’t, and that was not the way we do things here! It was the greatest thing to watch. I love Dimash, as a performer, but especially as a human being!

    Okay, here goes:
I may be in the minority (lol), but as a huge fan of Dimash I somewhat hope his management DOESN’T focus on the Western market. The only real benefit would be to the management themselves ($), and I fear it would take too much of a toll on Dimash’s longevity. American audiences on the whole are not ready for music this challenging, much less sung by a person who’s still working on his English (fantastically btw), not to mention the religious bias he would also be faced with. I believe the ONLY real benefit to Dimash himself is that he would be giving his fans a chance to see him sing live, which I’m sure he wants, seeing how much he appreciates his fandom. Every other aspect of trying to “force” the West to understand a talent this profound may be an uphill struggle, and at worst a case of diminishing returns that could potentially drain the joy he still obviously has for his craft.
Dears, really think about this before you bash me. Our selfish desires can sometimes blind us to the potential realities of our wishes.
On another note, I would personally suggest Stranger (New Wave) over other versions, from strictly an analysis POV. It’s maybe the biggest example of D’s sheer flexibility to date.

    • @Ozymandi_as
      @Ozymandi_as 2 роки тому +4

I agree. Dimash is not really a radio artist (you'd just think it was a bunch of different people), he hasn't thus far shown much interest in recording albums, and I don't readily see where his music fits into the charts - cos most of the chart music is dreary and formulaic. He can certainly have a career in the US, but I hope he'll let the US come to him, rather than try to please that market.
That said, it will be interesting to see how he will respond to the looming political, economic and cultural isolation of Russia. He's had a lot of success there, and a successful relationship with Igor Krutoy - who is also an oligarch worth $13 billion, and fairly close to Putin, from what I gather. Kazakhstan, one of the former Soviet satellite states, has a very pro-Putin, very authoritarian government, where recently an outbreak of peaceful protests was put down fairly brutally with military assistance sent by Russia. Aside from New Wave, in Sochi, he usually does another summer gig at the Slavic Bazaar in Vitebsk, in Belarus, where Lukashenko has shown himself to be totally in thrall to Putin. And his other big market is China, which has so far remained pretty silent on the invasion of Ukraine, although Putin and Xi recently had a great show of solidarity at the Olympics. "Stranger, in a stranger's land ..." Not sure how that would go down in Kyiv just at the moment ...

  • @JensRandolff
    @JensRandolff 2 роки тому +1

This was a very enjoyable reaction and analysis. Dimash performs here at the 2018 International Festival of Arts “Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk”, generally known simply as “Slavic Bazaar.” It is an annual festival held in Vitebsk, Belarus, sponsored by the Belarusian Government since 1992. Its main program promotes Slavic music and the majority of participants are artists from the former Soviet Union and other Eastern Bloc countries. The song “SOS (d'un Terrien en détresse)” is originally from a French-Canadian musical called ‘Starmania’ from the 1970s and is considered one of the most difficult French songs to perform.
You have barely even begun to scratch the surface of Dimash's talent and ability. He has continued to hone his skills and to fine-tune and perfect his already unbelievable abilities even more. There does not seem to be a limit to what he can achieve vocally. I am excited to follow his journey. Dimash will possibly go down in history as the greatest vocal talent known to man. I cannot think of anyone, past or present, capable of doing what Dimash is capable of. I am still waiting on someone to name a single individual even remotely close to Dimash's mastery.
If you want to follow Dimash's career progression over the last five years, here is a song list I usually recommend in semi-chronological order: S.O.S. (d'un Terrien en détresse), either the Slavic Bazaar or the 2017 "I Am A Singer" version. His covers from the same competition of Lara Fabian's "Adagio," Eric Carmen's 1975 "All by Myself" (repopularized by Celine Deion), and Freddie Mercury's "The Show Must Go On." Also, from the same show, Confessa & Diva Dance, Opera 2, Daididau, Daybreak, and Autumn Strong. His "I Am A Singer" 2018 guest performance of Lionel Richie's "Hello" is a must. Then there is Sinful Passion (Greshnaya Strast), Love is like a Dream, Your Love, Olimpico (Ogni Pietra) from Igor Krutoy's channel, Diva Dance (Bastau Concert), Across Endless Dimensions (either the movie trailer or his internet live concert performance), and Know (both the regular performance as well as the vocalise). His more operatic-sounding performances are Ti Amo Cosi (with Lara Fabian and Aida Garifullina), Ulisse (Duet with Aida Garifullina), and Tu Vas Me Détruire (duet with Sundet Baigojin), and the aforementioned Olimpico (Ogni Pietra).
His traditional and Chinese songs are also impressive: Adai+Daididau, Samal Tau (2020 Tokyo Jazz Festival), Qairan Elim (Holy Land), Elim Menin (My Homeland), Karagym-ai, Thousand of Miles - A Common Dream, and Ómir Óter. And then there are Drunken Concubine & Diva Dance (duet with Li Yugang), Without You, Love Of Tired Swans, Where Love Lives, Unforgettable Day (Gakku Concert), I Miss You, Passione, Give Me Love, Marigold, Golden, Mademoiselle Hyde, Screaming, his latest music video "Be With Me," just to name a few.
His latest songs, "Fly Away," "Stranger," and "Ave Maria," recently debuted live at New Wave 2021, and the latter two are on a whole new level. Dimash performs an alternate version of "Stranger" on the "Shine! Super Brothers S2" Youku Show that is simply mind-boggling and well-worth checking out. Here is the link: ua-cam.com/video/thbgh0qIscI/v-deo.html
Dimash also recently released "Ikanaide,'' performed during the 2021 Tokyo Jazz Festival live stream, which is absolutely incredible. He sings in nearly flawless Japanese.
Avoid any performance from "The World's Best." The show in L.A. was utterly disgraceful. The production team edited and cut all of Dimash's performances down to 2 minutes and cut out his Kazakh song for no reason.
