- This trip, I took my 2011 VW GTI to the mountains. I put a roof top tent on and some roof bars to support it. everything held up like it was suppose to be there. it was a very cold trip but I came prepared with a heated blanket and heavy coats. the food was delicious and the tent was comfortable. I also definitely enjoyed driving my car on the mountain road.

What roof to tent and support bars do you use? Thinking of camping my 2019 GTI with my husband soon and would love to be able to lay down flat instead of being scrunched up in the vehicle.

I have the Thule wing bars and front runner rtt. Very strong set up and I've vener had any issues
@@MountainRoadAdventure any interior bracing? VW is pretty explicit in the manual and other resources about that roof being good for 160(iirc) pounds maximum. if it works, then it works, we're just worried about damaging the car.
@@R3NNiX well I do have a Eurosport rear x-brace but besides that, nothing. I try not to bounce around too much but it feels very solid. But do it at your own risk. I have about 500 lbs with the tent, me and my gf. So it seems to support that very well

A cheap hack is you can always add additional pasta to those Stouffer meals to make them go further
