Zzyzx has always probably been my favorite Stone Sour song. The lyrics really let you inside what a band is going through. Being a rolling stone, trying to balance a family, and home life while trying to provide, and live up to your fans. Never have seen this preformed live, awesome reaction, great selection!!!!

Corey's accoustic version of Snuff tops them all. It's dedicated to his best friend and Slipknot bassist Paul Gray who died.
Snuff wasn't dedicated to Paul... it was dedicated to a women who struck a delicate nerve in corey taylor... he was liking her but the feeling wasn't mutual- BUT she led him on to think it was.. so formed some complications.. the video to snuff is actually pretty good too
@@A-AronX you may wanna use Google if you don't know about something before you post. You are correct in your statement it was ORIGINALLY written about a woman in his life he went through very hard times with. Most likely his ex wife Scarlett by the timing of the song, though he does not ever say.
Paul Gray helped Corey with this song and pushed him to both complete, and release it. Paul had Joey Jordison listen to it, and he took a basic recording they had of it, and secretly made the drum track for it. He then played it for Corey who was blown away. Corey says himself has said many times, if it wasn't for Paul, he never would have released it.
Snuff is also the last single released before Paul's death.
After Paul died, Corey and the band forever dedicated this song to Paul, Corey and has openly said so at MANY performances and in interviews. He's even said It's also why he looks up during especially accoustic performances knowing Paul is there.
Don't believe me, there's a ton of interviews and legit places on Google before you put out false info....just saying.

Corey is so freaking good that I don’t even know if Corey truly realizes just how good he is…. or can be. If he ever wrote a solo album full of ballads and acoustic songs… I would buy it in a second. He wrote Home for his wife on guitar but he said it didn't feel intimate enough, so he took a couple years to learn how to play the piano just to complete the song. ♥ According to wiki "Zzyzx Rd." is a love song written to Taylor's wife for helping him in his struggles against alcoholism and contemplation of suicide
When I saw Corey, last year, his wife's burlesque show - The Cherry Bombs - opened. At that club, there's a side balcony, over the stage, where artists can watch from. Corey sang this directly directly to her, above. Very touching and romantic. The guy's the best. 🤘😊

Zzyzx is an actual rd for any that are nit aware. It's about half way between San Bernardino CA and Los Vegas NV.
I think lots of parents in the last 80s and early 90s were told Piano lessons are good for kids. That might be what gave them the talent but also a musical taste?

You're the only person I've seen react to this one, everyone else does "Snuff" and never checks out his other music... "From Can to Can't" is also a fantastic song. I agree with you 1000% this performance is flawless and pours emotion. I can't say the same for Stone Sour Zzyzx Rd. even though I enjoyed it when it came out... I always prefer live and as little manipulation (aka mastering) as possible. Other than the rawness of a live show, one thing that I love about live versions is they will NEVER sound identical, each one is a moment in time. A studio recording COULD replicate the same nearly identical sound.

I have only recently discovered this song/video and I agree it is masterful! I watch/listen to it several times a week and I feel it every time! The power of music is undeniable and infinite. Judging by your genuine and passionate reaction to this song, also your interest in learning about the stories behind the songs/bands, I have a suggestion for you to check out that I know you will enjoy! Not many people know about this band and the crazy story of them. I was so happily surprised that when I watched the whole concert that this video is from, Corey talked about them, then covered a song from them. The band is called Life Sex & Death.. The album id called "The Silent Majority" and the song you have to listen to first is called "Rise Above" . Stanley's vocal performance is absolutely incredible! Also, the song "hey buddy" is powerful and great! I hope you get this message. This is actually the first comment I've ever made here on UA-cam! Corey really is one of the greatest musicians, if you want to hear similar I highly recommend Hesitate by Stone Sour acoustic on WAAF radio station. And Bother live in London. He’s helped me through so much and still does.

I am no great talent with music, but I have played in bands, and I always since I was very young written songs ( mostly for my own benefit )
I love metal and rock, but you never go wrong with a piano.
There is no better instrument to write song with that the piano. you have all the chords, you can play melodies, you have room to write.
As a drummer I will say a piano is the most perfect instrument. sitting at a real piano ( not some plastic unstable thing ) just playing.. its just medicine.
So many that write music can play the piano, because the piano is perfect when writing music.

The change is a different song by Stonesour, his first band that still performs. The song is Zzyzx Road. They are much more gentle, I think you'd like them.

Corey nearly had got give up music because he done screaming music for so long and he had alcohol addiction and drugs but he has been clean of alcohol and drugs for so long he can sing so angelic again
It's actually 2 different songs. When he changed pitch he started the second song that was already released.

Corey is one of my 3 favor artists and his voice my most favorite.
I appreciate the emotions behind the first song (written for his wife and learned to play piano to play it to her), but it's not touching me that much personally. Zzyzx Rd is one of my favorite songs ever, even though I can't listen to it if I'm not feeling good, because it makes me break down completely.

Time for you to listen to Stone Sour Gone Sovereign / Absolute Zero watch the official video as the two songs tie into each other. Thats okay Corey Taylor brings tears to my eyes on a few songs too.
