Having a valid driver's license (DL) is essential if you plan on living in Malaysia. In this video, I'll explain the Malaysia Expat DL process and help you get your DL as quickly and painlessly as possible.
Step by Step Process:
1. JPJ L1 Form
2. JPJ Appendix B-2 form
3. Photocopy of Passport First and Last Page
4. Photocopy of Visa Page
5. Photo copy of Driving License Front and Back
6. Print out - ‘Extract of Driving License’ status. Make sure print the whole page including Note section. Don't crop and print this page. Ensure , print out is showing date / time / url path at the footer or header.

parivahan.gov....] . (Document should be attested either from RTO or BLS Malaysia)
7. Company Letter for employment verification.
8. Print out of EP / DP / RPT Approval letter given by Immigration Deptt or MSD ( for IT related companies)
9. Your visa & passport must have minimum 1 year of validity.
10. Bring your original passport and drivers licence with you for verification by the JPJ officer.
Original Documents Required:
1. Passport
2. Visa
3. Driver License (from Home Country)
4. Attested DL Extract

Post approval you will have to pay RM140 - Credit /Debit cards, Cash are accepted.

Lucky that you've got your approval within 25 days. I've heard it took few months for others. I'll keep looking or wait for the email. 😅
Thank you Santhosh, it also depends which JPJ office you submit your application, my colleague submitted 2weeks prior me, but his application got approved after 45days. It all depends 😊

It’s mentioned in point 9 of your video description. But never mind, got my work done with help of your other points. My visa was valid less than 1 year but they still accepted the docs. Thanks again.

If you have long term visa, I don't see any issue in availing license, however it's officer call @jpj office. You may walk in and can inquire and let me know. 😊

I received the approval email as well, and it states that I have 90 days to visit JPJ. However, it also mentions that I need to take the KPP01 computer test. Could you please confirm if this was also mentioned in your email? Should I go ahead with the course and test, or should I just visit JPJ for the license issuance since I've already received the approval? I am currently driving in KL on my international driving license, which will expire in a few months.

Hi Zohaib, I have just received an email from jpj informing about approval and "Thus, you are required to complete the process of Malaysia Driving Licence issuance within 90 days of issuance of this email." No test as such, better to clarify with JPJ, you never know they have full authority to change the criteria and help share your experience here.

I submitted my documents at JPJ Shah Alam, Selangor. Do you know if I can visit JPJ Wangsa Maju for the license issuance with the approval I received?
@zohaibahmed36 You have to go to same JPJ office where they have reviewed and accepted your documents as far as I'm aware of.
Application time 8am-11am only.
Office is open till 5pm barring lunch break, application is accepted during office hours.

That's great, welcome to Malaysia 🇲🇾... Well when you say conversion is not possible in JPJ anymore which is surprising but I would suggest to walk into nearest JPJ office to inquire the same. Most of my India friends had done conversion recently, and process is same.. so I don't see any challenge in it,
Hi Pawan, I am trying to convert my Indian license to malaysian as an expat , just had one question, apart from Indian license they have asked for authorisation letter, so wanted to confirm is that authorisation letter called as DL extract letter attested which we need to get from our Indian RTO office ?
Apart from this all the necessary documents I have.
DL EXTRACT attestation is one document and another thing is you can download extract online from the India portal and get it attested here in BLS, not necessary to travel to India for that

The info which I got is that I need to have a Authorisation letter along with Indian license , so is this Authorisation letter is called as DL extract letter because I am confused about this difference.any how my relative will be coming from India since they can bring the same letter from india itself with attestation.

What do you mean by DL extract? Is it the official translation? and can it be done by ITBM? I also found out that some nationalities are applicable for automatic conversion.
@sawbonz, DL Extract is referred in different way and might not sound related to your country, however common thing is you need to visit your country local transport office and they will be able to support you with attested document which can be used in JPJ office.

When they issue your new Malaysia driving licence, do they take away your India driving licence?
No, they will not keep your country license. They use original for reference

But I have legal documents UNHCR can I convert driving license
I am not sure about that, probably you may have to visit JPJ office to get better guidance on the convertion.

For students it is not applicable, this process is only for expat license conversion

Hi Dinesh, I would suggest to get them aligned to avoid future delays, I trust your passport address should be latest. Even I had to align my DL address to one reflecting in passport and then I applied for DL Extract.
How many years is it valid for?
With 'P' as in Probation valid for 2years after that you will have to renew and 'P' will be removed from your DL

Can I use my international DL as DL extract
it's my concern also, I'm vietnamese, I'm not sure is there DL extract form in Vietnam or not
International DL is valid for 1year only and moreover it has to be again signed by your country regional transport officer. But if you are looking for DL Conversion then you need to produce original documents and I believe JPJ will not accept International DL. Usually DL Extract will give complete details of your DL which is not available in international DL. Trust this was helpful.
I understand but please explore your regional transport webpage and I belive if it is not exact word extract, but you may also find DL summary or something which gives complete details of your home country DL. If JPJ ask for it irrespective of your nationality that means they have already explored that option 😊. If you get hold of it then don't forget to get sealed and signed by your regional officer. Welcome Ginda, if your temporary pass is valid for a year I believe you can apply for DL but I would strongly recommend to also check with JPJ office once, generally 'P' DL license is valid for 2years. You first visit with required documents and let JPJ assess and confirm if they can proceed or not with available document.
