    I love how your not picky about your tack!! Here's the example that I saw "there's other colors and styles but this one's the one they had" like with me I just like all black,grey,brown tack!

      I only care that my equipment works. I'm not married to too many brands and colors aren't high on my priority list but functionality is my utmost concern.

    I adore how gentle and patient you are with your horses. The way you through the saddle on was perfect, and when he moves you go with it.❤️

      Yeah I try not to fuss. He doesn't care about silly things like standing still. He wants to move a little at the trailer, shook be it! Lol

    The fact you use ordinary people tack not super expensive stuff and care about your horse not just winning and I love every part if your tack other than the but but there are a lot worse and I'd trust you that that's what works for you both as a team❤❤❤

    I like that you use a tie down. I tie down every horse i ride due to an accident i had years ago. Sometimes i get back lash for having a tie down on my horse

    Thanks for informative video,
    Beautiful horse,
    Beautiful girl ,
    Lovely combination.
    I'm trying to educate myself on wraps, for my daughters horse,
    I purchased some polo wraps last year, but we've never actually tried them, but until now really didn't feel the need, but over last few months, both she & her horse have improved tremendously, getting some respectable, competitive times , as well as participating in more upcoming events, and I had noted some cuts on his legs that I felt came from hoof to leg contact, and her friends- fellow riders have ones similar to what you demonstrated.
    I know with faster times, running faster more chances they could get hurt & more tension or stress put upon his legs & tendons, etc... so I want to be proactive, and prevent any injury before it happens.
    How are these wraps (possibly wrong terminology) sized?
    He's a 15- 15.1 hand horse maybe a little bigger. Quarter horse, I'm guessing he's 1100-1150 lbs. not near as large as our other quarter horse, but the other is always thought to be foundation line quarter- but he's on the large bone heavyweight side of the spectrum, much larger leg, hooves, head everything.
    But her horse is one I need to find new equipment for, are there any measurements I should take off the horse- to enable purchase of correct size?
    Thanks for any input or advise.

    • @RenaeCowley
      @RenaeCowley  6 років тому

      Thanks for your great question. Leg protection is so critical to keeping horses of any discipline safe. Polo wraps work for some people but for me they take longer to put on and have a greater chance of coming loose or slipping if not wrapped correctly. I use protective boots. The ones I use right now are Pro Choice SMB3 size medium. I am not particularly brand loyal on these, just whatever is in your price range, the right size, and of course a color your daughter likes! From your description, it sounds like your horse would wear a medium as well. As far as I know there are no real measurements to take on your horse, simply trial and error of buying some and trying them on to see if they fit. The key is to put them on tight enough that they don't slip or turn (while not restricting movement or blood flow, and angle the lowest velcro strap upwards to give them support around their fetlock. Best of luck to your daughter on her barrel racing endeavours!

    I ride in the same bit! My boy appreciates the dog bone a lot vs the "nutcracker effect"! do you run and practice in the same bit or different? if so what is the other one?

    Keep the videos coming! Do you ever clean off the hair on your saddle pads? If so, how do you do it/what do you use?

    • @RenaeCowley
      @RenaeCowley  7 років тому

      Mc P Great question. Yes I do occasionally and I just use a curry comb. When I had neoprene pads I'd hose them off but can't do that with wool. There may be a more correct way but it seems to work just fine for me.

  • @SwavyCurlyCourtney

    So Renae, I used to set my saddles behind the horses scapula but I found that my saddles would dump down in front or tilt forward and it made it much harder for me to sit and ride correctly as I was constantly being thrown forward. I tried shimming the saddles to correct this but it didn't help much. I tried setting various brands of saddles further back to clear the scapula but all of them did the same thing, tilt forward. Do you notice this being a problem for you? If so how do you correct it.

    • @RenaeCowley
      @RenaeCowley  7 років тому

      I haven't had a problem yet with my saddle slumping forward but I keep a pretty tight back cinch which may help balance that out. I also use a 5 Star pad which I think helps significantly with saddle fit. As a former reiner, I naturally sit back a bit more so that may also help me stay anchored in my saddle. Perhaps it has to do with your horse's back shape? Have you tried different pads? When I was on the hunt for the perfect saddle I found that saddle fit was greatly impacted by the type of pad I tried it with.

      Renae Cowley Thanks for the feedback! I'm glad you haven't had this problem! I will try your tips and see if they help.

      The Barrel Racer Life I know this post is older so I don’t know if you’ve solved the problem or not.. but I would try an impact gel pad with built up shoulders! I’ve heard great things about those pads! Hope everything works out!☺️

    • @RenaeCowley
      @RenaeCowley  6 років тому

      Everything in horses comes down to personal preference. Placing your saddle too far back will put too much pressure on their loin. Too far forward will interfere with their shoulder and could pinch their withers. The best advice I can give you is to experiment. Do what feels best for you and your horse. The best understanding comes from trial, error, and experience. Good luck!
