    20:38 That shot of all the suburbs is absolutely amazing. Once that top corner is filled in, it’ll be real. Also, kind of ironic that the mall built over the airport is Skyland Mall.

    • @JamesFluker
      @JamesFluker 5 років тому

      I noticed that as well (the Skyland Mall logo). My head canon is that it's an old airfield they redeveloped in the 70s.

    If you ever want to build a small town outside of the main city area, look to Melrose in Massachusetts. Melrose has a stereotypical downtown area and some pretty nice surrounding neighborhoods.
    Also, classical music is free of copyright

      Yes, the music is no longer under copyright but the recording (the performance) IS under copyright. Look up the fair use regulations and you may find that you can use the recordings without infringement. It might require a fair use statement in the credits.

    If the city is supposed to be near boston or hartford, then I would suggest adding a commuter rail line that ends at the city- places like Providence, Lowell, and Worcester all have an end stop for the MBTA system, and Springfield has one from New Haven and Hartford.

    • @PresCities

      that’s actually a solid idea. maybe i just add some subway trains which go through the normal rail line.

    For an airport, maybe consider a single runway design, like Portland International Jetport in Portland, Maine, with a terminal like at Manchester-Boston Regional Airport, Manchester, New Hampshire

    You should add a Massive American high school that serves all the "outskirt" towns of new Windsor. I think the most realistic style (for the east coast) would be to have it located nowhere near any town or settlement, near a field or a forest, basically only accessible by road.

  • @JamesFluker
    @JamesFluker 5 років тому +1

    I liked this episode. I think the mall and suburb works a lot better there.
    You might like to build an in-fill suburb - where something used to be in the past and in recent years (the 90s or 00s) it's been filled in with newer housing.
    It'd be more distinctive than the houses around it and add a new vibe/character to the city :)

  • @Cptn.Viridian

    I know you haven't even built the port yet, but something really cool would be to have 2 "ports", 1 modern one with good access to the sea for big ships, and an "old port", that is more inland in like a protected bay. You could have the old port then totally renovated into the "New Windsor Piers" project, which would basically have a large part of the "old port" renovated with modern looking buildings and tons of stuff.
    You could have the new port where the airport was, and then have the "old port/ren
    A good explanation would be that they built the new port as the old port's pier designs weren't suited for modern ships (like it was two small, or the water wasn't deep enough, or just because the other port became so much better.)
    I have a few inspirations of this, one irl and one from the cities community.
    A good Irl example would be this part of Baltimore, which is kinda close to the theme we are going for; www.google.com/maps/place/Baltimore,+MD/@39.2837742,-76.6089271,874m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x89c803aed6f483b7:0x44896a84223e758!8m2!3d39.2903848!4d-76.6121893
    And also another example which I may have influenced, in another cities skylines video.

    I know you said you wouldn't build a massive army base, so you should add a small old armoury or navy base. Massive bases are few and far between in Eastern Canada, but small outposts are everywhere in Canada, as holdovers from World War 1 and 2. Most are in the prairies or in far Eastern Canada.
    For example, the Point Edward Naval Base in Sydney, Nova Scotia. It was used in an on-and-off basis from the 1700s until 1939, when a permanent shore installation was set up. It was shuttered in 1982.

    Since the area of the old airport is still empty you could handle it as if there was an inner city airport but got too small and too close to the city and was moved.
    At former Berlin inner city airport („Berlin Tempelhof“), they kept one of the runways and made it a huge park where people do all kinds of stuff from bbq, biking, skating, kiting, ...
    At former Munich airport („München Riem“) they built a fair in the shape of the terminal building and in google maps you can still see where the runways were which now is a modern tech startup park.
    What I‘m trying to suggest: you could rebuild this area following the former shapes, giving the airport kind of a memorial ;)

    I really enjoy watching all of your series especially this one my personal favorite Cities Skylines series. I live in New England, in eastern CT about 45 minutes from Providence, and you have been nailing the area great! It has even inspired my own similar city. I haven't studied your map much outside for the main city I think it would be cool to see it become more rural as you spread out and maybe do some of the Industries DLC (farming, timber, mills/warehouses) in spots with little towns with urban centers around them spaced out from the main city, similar to how Putnam, CT and Killingly CT are to Providence. They both have urban-ish downtown with a rural area surrounding them and in between them and Providence.
    As for how you do your videos, I think you have a great blend of timelapse(not to fast like a lot of youtubers that make you dizzy), regular building time and cinematics. The video length range is great too. As for music, what you started the series with was perfect to me seemed to fit the city really well.

    I know you probably don't want to have to look at a lot of places on Google earth, but you should look at Spokane Washington. It has many old brick buildings and some are being remodeled, and turned into expensive condos and apartments although most of them are just sitting there because the city doesn't know what to do with them. I imagine New Windsor is probably like this too and in a position like that. I think you should add some that are being remodeled or already have been. It also has many suburbs built in the 80s that sprawl out, and New Windsor should have some too, because not all of the city can be historic neighborhoods. Also look at lake couer d lane and the Rockwood neighborhood
    Also, I think New Windsor needs some more pine trees because it looks unrealistic just having colorful trees up the mountains.

    As a professional level designer myself I must tell that your work on New Windsor is very good and level of detail for that kind of city is more than enough. I love that autumn style of nature and building that are not ideally clean. One thing that I would like to see is some abandoned/damaged neighborhoods. Maybe some Detroit-like fragment of downtown or some small houses at city side. I mean everything looks nice but is in same "style space". Also there are some sweet train/rail options on workshop and New Windsor needs more of them. :D I'm glad that you get rid of airpont. Im not a fan of them myself in this game. They took so much place and are visually average. noty all cities need airport. On the other hand I'm sad that you said that there are no plans for big port.

    @Pres. Just now thought of a realistic build you might want to try that I don't believe a skylines tuber has ever done. Make a supposed old rail line into a trail. This is a common practice here in the states and in-game a player using "Park Life" could take advantage of the nature preserve park. Thank you and as always Happy crafting to you.

    Hi Pres.. awesome build as always.. i aim to build a PC as yours so i can be able to load all your mods and assets. Currently seems i cannot on my limited laptop. (i7, 8gb ram)
    Any low cost ideas where i can source your PC parts for a cost effective win? your help will be awesome!....

      Use pcpartspicker and create a parts list. Watch the prices fall over time and buy them while they're low. I recommend you get at least 16gb of RAM for Cities Skylines but other than that it's up to you. Loads of forums and subreddits out there where people can help you find exactly what you need for what you do ^^

    More churches? And perhaps other religious buildings, such as a city synagogue in a ‘jewish community’ area idk how you would distinguish this but just an idea
