    Under the direction of German baron Philip Georg Friedrich von Reck, a group of forty-six Lutherans arrived in Georgia in 1734, a year after James Oglethorpe founded the colony. Mostly religious expatriates from Salzburg, the group eventually settled in 1736 at a site they named New Ebenezer, located twenty miles northwest of Savannah. Over the next ten years, approximately 1,000 “Salzburger” Lutherans came to Georgia. They quickly went to work, sponsoring religious schools, building churches, and experimenting with various economic endeavors, including silk making, farming, and lumbering.

      I was raised Catholic ! One time our Eastern European nuns / Felician order asked us to name a Christmas Carol! So I said Away in a Manger! She quickly reprimanded me" We don't sing that son!" "Why?" asked . "Because Martin Luther wrote that song! " she replied. LOL! Years later I found out my paternal Grandfather was raised Lutheran. He converted to Catholic religion when he married my Catholic Grandmother! 🤔🤣😂😂🇩🇪🇨🇭🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲I left the Catholic church years ago! What the REICH WING EVANGELICAL CHRISTIANS / CATHOLIC S fail to realize how many people they have turned against churches when they supported 45 or as I call him A- GOLF TWITLER? 🇩🇪🇨🇭🇺🇲Just a reminder, many CATHOLICS and Lutherans also supported Adolf Hitler in 1930's Germany! 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔I believe in God but NOT any church!

    The grandmother I mentioned here lost her babies to a hereditary condition. My daughter also had it but survived with surgery at 9 days old. Pyloric stenosis. Love your helper. She's a keeper!! and a good grave reader. Love that you're doing videos Robert. Hope you are well and feeling fine! One of my grandma's lost 3 babies. She named them all and visited their graves throughout old age. I gave her a baby doll for Christmas one year. She had so much fun holding and rocking that lil doll. I love the way those elders knew how to love family. She was my daughter;s Great Grandmother and the GGGrandmother was still alive in my daughter's young childhood. My favorite part of these exploring videos is the way yall really care about those that came before us.

      Maybe if their first 2 children survived it could have been a Rh factor situation where one person is + and the other one was - and then the child is attacked in the womb of the mother as if it was an enemy of the body because it cannot be recognized by the mother’s body as an infant so it does everything it can to prevent it from continuing to grow and all of the children would most certainly die as they didn’t recognize it was Rh factor of incompatibility of a + vs. -. So heartbreaking that all the parents knew was that God wanted them more and he had needed the children the most or it was just not meant to be even though they kept conceiving babies. How sad!…

    • @taysgram
      @taysgram Рік тому +7

      True…I am Rh negative and my husband was Rh positive. The first baby is alright but it’s the babies afterward who will have problems. I had to get a special injection to prevent “blue babies”. My blood was monitored and if I needed more injections, they were given . Thank Goodness my five children were healthy. Those poor families that had to endure the problems of not having that injection back in the day.

    • @hrhdianednum7203
      @hrhdianednum7203 Рік тому +2

      @@taysgram I was lucky I’m Rh - also and my husband is A - and I’m O- 3 of my children is O- and 3 are A- and I had 3 miscarriages 2 breach and the first one was a premature labor and I was basically in the hospital for 4 months and back in 1985 I was in a double room and my rummy didn’t get rogram so the second one she had, her body was doing it’s darn best to eject her pregnancy. After each miscarriage I had to have rogram because sometimes nature will do funny things. I had 7 siblings and 2+ parents and 2 of us had a negative Rh while the rest of them were + and we are all biologically have the same parents!

    So good to see you again Robert! You've been missed. Between Sidestep and a few other youtubers who visit old graveyards, I've seen so many like this - with so many children's graves. I can't help but put myself into the shoes of their parents. In the early days of our country, survival wasn't a sure thing for many children. Times were hard for everyone and tiny ones just weren't strong enough to always survive those times.

There is something about the way you handle yourself and the tone of your voice that make the tours special, especially this one, everyone of those babies took a breath and they were gone, the mother of these children was so special and she knew what she wanted and that was for a child to live on with herself and husband, wow, so many....such a shame,,, may they rest in enternal sleep....

It was heartbreaking to see so many children n babies who died. So very sad. They kept having babies hoping one would survive. Like the other Robert said. It could of been genetic. The epitaph for Laura McGill (at 03:00-ish) sounds very much like a traditional Easter hymn, "The Strife is O'er, the Battle Done" (...now is the victor's triumph won). Several sources indicate Rev. Francis Pott translated the hymn's text from Symphonia Sirenum, a piece associated with the Cologne, Germany cathedral, circa1695. The hymn's tune is adapted from a Giovanni Palestrina work, mid- to late 1500's.

    From his obituary - "David Samuel Derrick was a veteran of the confederate war having served with gallantry under Capt. D.J. Griffith died in Columbia yesterday morning". D. J. Griffith was a captain in the Fifteenth South Carolina Infantry Regiment. The 15th South Carolina Infantry was an infantry regiment that served in the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War. The 15th South Carolina's initial trial-by-fire occurred on Hilton Head Island during the Battle of Port Royal Sound on November 7, 1861. Following the Regiment's service on the coast of South Carolina, the unit was transferred to Robert E. Lee’s Army of Northern Virginia (ANV) in July 1862. As part of Lee's Army, the 15th SC served in James Longstreet's corps in all of the ANV battles from Second Manassas onward, including Sharpsburg and South Mountain. In November 1862, the 15th South Carolina joined Brigadier General Joseph B. Kershaw’s famous South Carolina brigade where the regiment remained for the rest of the War. As part of Kershaw's brigade, the 15th SC fought in the battles of Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville and Gettysburg. Following the battle of Gettysburg in July 1863, Kershaw's brigade were sent by General Lee, along with two divisions of Longstreet’s corps, to the Western Army where they fought in the battles of Chickamauga, Knoxville and Bean's Station. In April 1864, the 15th SC and the rest of Kershaw's brigade returned to Lee's Army of Northern Virginia command and fought in the battles of the Wilderness, Spotsylvania, North Anna, Cold Harbour and the siege of Petersburg. In August 1864, Lee ordered Kershaw's brigade to the Shenandoah Valley where the men fought in the battles at Charlestown, Strasburg's Hupp's Hill and Cedar Creek. In January 1865, General Lee ordered Kershaw's brigade to return to South Carolina to oppose Major General William Tecumseh Sherman’s army during his march through the Carolinas. Following the evacuation of Charleston, where the 15th South Carolina was one of the last Confederate fighting units to leave the city, and the battles of Averasboro and Bentonville in North Carolina, the Regiment was surrendered, along with the remaining men of Kershaw's brigade, to General Sherman as part of General Joseph E. Johnston’s Army of Tennessee in Greensboro, North Carolina on April 26, 1865. Kershaw's brigade and the 15th South Carolina Infantry served as the last Confederate provost guard protecting food and ordnance stores in Greensboro before finally returning to their homes in South Carolina.

    First time seeing you folks, I must say, it's a rare and wonderful thing to have such a beautiful and angelic voice of this woman read the stones. You further bless each one with this God given gift you possess.

    Regarding the lack of CSA veteran recognition, Lutherans teach two Kingdoms: the Left (earthly) and Right (heavenly). I would have to double check with my pastors, but as a Lutheran lay person, my guess is that the Lutheran Church would have considered the Confederate cause not a just cause for war, as they did regarding the Revolutionary War. Therefore they wouldn't have made a big deal of the men's service in the Confederate Army.

    Not sure if anyone else commented on the stone @21:31, but it reads: JENCY WISE. I found the Find A Grave page for her. It says she died of typhoid fever (which, I would guess, was most likely the cause of most of the infant fatalities from around the same time).

    Tuberculosis took a lot of children along with pneumonia. Open hearth fires were very dangerous,so were staircases,not all died from disease,only God can know for sure,medical care still wasn't an exact science...it's not too exact today...we might knock out one bad malady and another rears it's ugly head. Dangerous world. Anyway they are all God's children He knows best. Bless y'all, and nice to see Robert again.Love from Ky.💞💞
