For better or worse, I think Arc Sys felt they had to show the whole pass because Dizzy wasn't ready in time for EVO. It is hard to sell the hype of "Dizzy is coming (in 3 months)!" on its own, so they very likely needed the future content plan to help soften that blow. Additionally, what other stage than EVO were they going to have the most eyes on the game for the Lucy collab? It almost becomes the only choice in this instance, but perhaps after seeing how SF6 did sales wise, ASW had it out as well
Lucy could have been evo or not. Lucy is popular outside fighting games. Arguably evo isnt the besg place for those types of collabs. Luckily her popularity broke past evo and many people knew about it. I have many friends that want to play the game just for her.
They just shouldn't sell them in these boundles. If you could just buy different characters as they release then we could have both the hype and know what we're paying for.
OR all individual DLC together costs as much as a season's pass instead of being scammed into digital content following logistics of transportation/packaging of mass goods pricing
@@bwareist yes but it's always more expensive. Games like Guilty Gear Strive sell season passes with 5 characters + extras, when three characters on their own cost more, then it's not much of an option. If you only want three of the characters then you either have to pay for all five of them... or EVEN MORE.

An important reason why character by character reveals worked so well for Ultimate is because Ultimate's community weren't rooting for returning characters, they were already all in, and _every_ new fighter is a guest character on some level. The only real divide was if it would be a Nintendo or third party guest. Meanwhile with MK for example, there's a bajillion mains rooting for their favourite from 3+ games ago to make it in who kinda need to be told half of the season roster will be guest characters. That's probably why Khaos Reigns hasn't announced the Cameo picks, because they essentially act as negative confirmations for character slots. Or in Street Fighter's case, they're doing two KoF guests split up between the season, if they didn't reveal that in advance, people would be _pissed_ with Mai's inclusion. I do think there's room for some nuance, I would not be against a season keeping one character secret, or maybe hyping up a season with split up reveals before you start selling it for the sake of hype, but yeah I think full season reveals should be the default going forward

A friend who knows basically nothing about guilty gear and fighting games except that I'm into them, and wasn't even a dedicated fan of cyberpunk or edgerunners or anything in the franchise. It's a controversial pass because they're trying to reach an audience that they haven't reached before, while still giving the current consumerbase what we've been asking for with Dizzy and Venom (I AM SO HAPPY ABOUT VENOM!!!!!) I just hope this brings in enough money for a season 5 pass yknow?

Season 3 spoiled your friends. Both Season 1 and 2 had new characters introduced and annoucement of Guilty Gear anime it was basicially confirmed even more debuts are coming. They can announce a full season pass at evo or something, and then sprinkle out the characters over the course of the year. Pre-orders are something I’ve grown pretty against in recent years, so I very much try to avoid them unless I really mean to buy it no matter what. Sure that means I don’t get the sheer hype of Venom being suddenly announced but tbf I still got the excitement from his announcement and I’ve got something to look forward to. Plus I still get mega hyped seeing the trailers even when I already know the character, like with Slayer for me.
I think some characters are way more hyped than others so it helps them as a whole to be announced together, because they get the first announcement hype and then the gameplay reveal trailer hype. I'd love that possibility. But I'm assuming they're more worried about the people who will mess with the game files to make the character playable in all modes without buying them.
@@gabriel_omj4480 you can "rent" the characters, yes. I'm talking about having them in training mode on a permanent basis so even if you don't have them, you can still lab against them whenever. If I'm wrong, then sf6 communicated this poorly.
@@redgrave4492 my intuition tells me that's something that can only be done with the source code. Technically, dlc character data is already in the game, otherwise you wouldn't be able to fight against bison or view replays against them.
I'd rather they show the whole DLC. At least this way they get the money for development of these characters quicker or have an Idea of whether what they are doing is driving up hype well. if its not they have time to tweak things and drive more sales. a staggered release just delays sales for non hardcore players and gives them time to lose interest in the game thus losing a full price season pass sale.
i feel like a decent compromise would be if all the characters in the pass were revealed except for 1 "wildcard" character who could have their own reveal.
Mortal Kombat didn't pick up the trend of showing all DLC characters at once, they've been doing that at least since MKX, I don't know about MK9 or Injustice 1 since I didn't play those when they came out. Also, in my opinion, I like to know upfront what characters I'm paying for.
I believe another reason that guilty gear announced them all at once is because it's the 4th season, the game is legitimately getting old so it's way harder to build enough hype to entice newer players. With Lucy being the last in the pass there is no reason to wait to announce anything so it makes sense from a business perspective as well.
The only reason why they reveal the entirely of season pass was because I remember Capcom saying how they are listening to feedback with fans and admitting how them announcing one character at a time while keeping the rest of the characters in a season with a question mark/silhouette caused negative reactions in the community as they hated it. I guess that strategy is what causes characters to be leaked early given how people would desperately look into files to see which character is next
4:04 Me who's a Fire Emblem fan: Oh Actually speaking of Byleth, I feel like that is an argument for getting everything announced at once, since you don't get the whole thing and there's just one character you don't even touch cause you're not a fan of them, and I feel that it made some people probably not even get Fighter Pass 2 when they announced Min Min.
One big announcement is definitely healthier for the community, especially considering there aren’t many realistic returning characters to be brought back anyway, coupled with the fact that crossovers are not common. It’s just the obvious choice at this point in Strive’s life cycle
In my opinion I feel revealing what characters are in the pass all at once is best. I think it's great for new characters for the reasons Chad had stated. Also there can still be speculation, like with new characters like AKI or characters who have the chance of being overhauled like Ed(considering he had a special control scheme in 5) hell some characters are kinda just hype on their own like akuma.
Haven't watched it all yet, but It really depends. But generally, if it's a season pass styled DLC? I feel like it should be announced all at once if you aren't Nintendo Prevent leakage, and generate more passive hype
I vastly prefer knowing up front. This method has massively increased my likely hood of buying a season pass since I am super picky about which characters I play. I typically only play other women and even then I like particular characters. So knowing if the season pass has characters I actually am going to use like GG stives pass makes me go "Oh maybe it is worth it cuz it's slightly cheaper and I am kinda willing to give this character a chance" where as if I don't know in advance, I will probably but the one character I am most hyped about when their announced then even if I sorta wanna play another character I won't buy them since well, now it will start to cost more than the pass. It's also much better for the customer to know the product they are buying in advance and it doesn't remove the hype cycle or speculation really, it's a gut reaction to say it does because there is still hype when new trailers drop to see how a character plays in the new game and there is hype for release to actually play the game. Plus there is hype for skins and stuff too. Beyond that there is hype for the next season. With more and more fighting games getting 3, 4, 5 even 6 season passes over time we still get the big moments just instead of being through out the year it's like 1 or two times a year per game and one of those times is probably all at once at Evo.
I don't think it will affect hype that much anyway cause we didn't see their gameplay, hear their ost... And playing them first time will always be hype no matter how early it was announced
i think they could keep announcement trailers and still have everyone know who the characters are ahead of time. i really like the idea of knowing exactly what im getting myself into buying a season pass lol
I agree with this 1000%. I always bought the season passes more our of brand loyalty (I wanted to support ArcSys as well as collect all the characters even if I never played them XD), but I agree that people want to know what they are getting before hand, so hopefully this will increase their sales! It also helps mitigate the disappointment, like with a lack of Jam in the roster, since I was so sure she was gonna be in this season and I know a few players still waiting on her. Overall, I think its a great shift and decision
i went into this video thinking singular reveals were better because i was always caught in the smash hype but honestly, yeah, companies being more honest is always a win so i'm all for it
Havent seen the full video, but I kind of like that companies anounce all characters at once, that way I know what or who im paying for and to see if its worth to get the whole pass or just 1 or 2 characters out of the pass alone ol
Personally, over time I think I do prefer having the entire season reveal as supposed to one character at the time, and it's for couple reasons. First is the fact it let us jugde the entire season as a whole and if it's worth investing in. And second, is also the fact how fans want the spesific characters to come back. While individual reveals are exciting, they can also be scary cause there's 50/50 chance your main to return and if not you have to wait another season. Kinda like gumbling but not really. But for real, while I would miss hype reveals, I think having already know what character you would get helps to establish expectations for it.
I think they should announce the entire DLC roster besides the exciting characters(maybe just put a question mark for them) This takes the pressure off new designs or less exciting returning characters, while still keeping the hype. Unfortunately I think season passes are always going to be a little anti consumer until they make purchasing individual characters more appealing
I think introducing the passes at least season 1 passes for games makes it so the dlc characters are completely dependent on the game creator and not the community at all. If sf6 didn’t reveal the season 1 pass before the game came out I feel like we would have a completely different dlc.
a lot of the issues there could be solved by of course, not over monetizing and selling them at the price they should be $3-$5 and NOT get early access to them one at a time works with the care put into them as smash did for reveals and extra stuff onto them
I think the hype is killed in a lot of franchises except for guilty gear for this (since we don’t know the music or additional goodies that are coming yet), then again, I was proven wrong by Terry Bogards reveal trailer. Holy mother of god. That reveal trailer

Thank you for the quickie, RadChad
I feel like its very good to have a full season announcement because of leaks
Legacy of Kaiser catching strays with this one.
You're so good at giving quickies dad ;3
Let's hope fgc devs make dlc characters free in training mode only. It will make such a huge difference in that decision process.
I'd love that possibility. But I'm assuming they're more worried about the people who will mess with the game files to make the character playable in all modes without buying them.
In street fighter 6, we can test the characters
@@gabriel_omj4480 you can "rent" the characters, yes. I'm talking about having them in training mode on a permanent basis so even if you don't have them, you can still lab against them whenever.
If I'm wrong, then sf6 communicated this poorly.
@@redgrave4492 my intuition tells me that's something that can only be done with the source code. Technically, dlc character data is already in the game, otherwise you wouldn't be able to fight against bison or view replays against them.
@@redgrave4492You can already do that while owning a legitimate copy of the game on Steam. DLC unlockers are already a thing.
You knew what you were doing when you named it ‘Quickies’ now you will face the consequences
Thank u dad for that enjoyable breathtaking quickie >:3
sorry for thanking you for the quickie dad
I'd rather they show the whole DLC. At least this way they get the money for development of these characters quicker or have an Idea of whether what they are doing is driving up hype well. if its not they have time to tweak things and drive more sales. a staggered release just delays sales for non hardcore players and gives them time to lose interest in the game thus losing a full price season pass sale.
I really needed this quickie, RadChad.
thank you for the quickie rad chad
i feel like a decent compromise would be if all the characters in the pass were revealed except for 1 "wildcard" character who could have their own reveal.
Put the video in 0.25x speed for a long, drawn out quickie.
Thank you for the quickie my dad, radChad
thank you for the quickie oomfie
Mortal Kombat didn't pick up the trend of showing all DLC characters at once, they've been doing that at least since MKX, I don't know about MK9 or Injustice 1 since I didn't play those when they came out.
Also, in my opinion, I like to know upfront what characters I'm paying for.
Thank you for the quickie sir
Thanks for the quickie, dad
This was the best quickie so far
I believe another reason that guilty gear announced them all at once is because it's the 4th season, the game is legitimately getting old so it's way harder to build enough hype to entice newer players. With Lucy being the last in the pass there is no reason to wait to announce anything so it makes sense from a business perspective as well.
Father we yearn for the milk
Thank you so much for this quickie daddy 😫
The only reason why they reveal the entirely of season pass was because I remember Capcom saying how they are listening to feedback with fans and admitting how them announcing one character at a time while keeping the rest of the characters in a season with a question mark/silhouette caused negative reactions in the community as they hated it. I guess that strategy is what causes characters to be leaked early given how people would desperately look into files to see which character is next
Holy shit Dad gave us another quickie
Thank you for the quickie!!

Me who's a Fire Emblem fan: Oh
Actually speaking of Byleth, I feel like that is an argument for getting everything announced at once, since you don't get the whole thing and there's just one character you don't even touch cause you're not a fan of them, and I feel that it made some people probably not even get Fighter Pass 2 when they announced Min Min.
thank you for teh quickie chadrad
One big announcement is definitely healthier for the community, especially considering there aren’t many realistic returning characters to be brought back anyway, coupled with the fact that crossovers are not common.
It’s just the obvious choice at this point in Strive’s life cycle
I love it when you give me a quickie raddad
In my opinion I feel revealing what characters are in the pass all at once is best.
I think it's great for new characters for the reasons Chad had stated.
Also there can still be speculation, like with new characters like AKI or characters who have the chance of being overhauled like Ed(considering he had a special control scheme in 5) hell some characters are kinda just hype on their own like akuma.
Many thanks for the quickies, dad
thank for the quickie rad chad
I think a blend of both works.
Keep the suprising hidden ones, hidden.
Keep the season pass sellers, visible.
Or just do whatever e.e
Love when I can come here to get a quickie from my dad
Thank you for the quickie Rad Chad
IM SO HYPED ABOUT WORKSTRIKE
Haven't watched it all yet, but It really depends.
But generally, if it's a season pass styled DLC? I feel like it should be announced all at once if you aren't Nintendo
Prevent leakage, and generate more passive hype
Yea it make sence to show all of them and wait
Thanks for the quickie dad
thanks for the vending machine quickie raddie!
thanks for the quickie but please gimme a long one
i liked it when the punch fight kaboom boom explosion punch
I dont think a quickie is enough to keep me satisfied anymore rad chad
i think they could keep announcement trailers and still have everyone know who the characters are ahead of time. i really like the idea of knowing exactly what im getting myself into buying a season pass lol
yay for axl low showing up. My boy is in fact chilling.
I just remembered Dizzy move names...
That character guide will be an EXPERIENCE
XD
That was quite the quickie lad
i went into this video thinking singular reveals were better because i was always caught in the smash hype
but honestly, yeah, companies being more honest is always a win so i'm all for it
Thank you for the quickie rad dad
I think they should announce the entire DLC roster besides the exciting characters(maybe just put a question mark for them)
This takes the pressure off new designs or less exciting returning characters, while still keeping the hype.
Unfortunately I think season passes are always going to be a little anti consumer until they make purchasing individual characters more appealing
Thanks for the quickie RadChad. I know this is a way to boost performance
Such a nice quickie dad
I think introducing the passes at least season 1 passes for games makes it so the dlc characters are completely dependent on the game creator and not the community at all. If sf6 didn’t reveal the season 1 pass before the game came out I feel like we would have a completely different dlc.
a lot of the issues there could be solved by of course, not over monetizing and selling them at the price they should be $3-$5 and NOT get early access to them
one at a time works with the care put into them as smash did for reveals and extra stuff onto them
I think the hype is killed in a lot of franchises except for guilty gear for this (since we don’t know the music or additional goodies that are coming yet), then again, I was proven wrong by Terry Bogards reveal trailer.
Holy mother of god. That reveal trailer
Thanks for the quickie Mr madlad dad
