For anyone still unsure about using a healer, I still think a full 12 levels in Life Cleric is an underrated build - for Honour mode it has been an absolutely brilliant class for me. You still benefit from the early game Cleric cheese of Spirit Guardians with all the Radiant gear, which will carry you through Act 2. Equip Lathander and all the Luminous/Radiant Orb stuff. In Act 3, transition towards being an absolute tank depending on the order you get gear, you can run the Adamantine Armour until you buy Armour of Persistence, you can equip the Amulet of Greater Health and then respec by taking out all your Constitution points and replacing them with Dexterity for greater Initiative. 18 Dex 20 Wisdom is a power combo, you'll have 135 Health, Viconia Shield etc for 23 AC, blind nearby enemies, and spam out 30-70 heals every turn. For damage, you still have great spells like Harm and Spirit Guardians, and you can sit on the frontline whilst your DPS focus priority targets. The idea is that if your healer is unkillable, your party is unkillable.
I’ve been entertaining a full life cleric for honor mode as well. Do you mind listing the luminous/radiant orb stuff and any other miscellaneous pieces you’ve found useful? Thanks.
I just cleared act 2 with Minthara respecced into Light Cleric with all the luminous gear and Lathander. The extra movement from soul brand made her insane at crowd control. Between that and my Druid tav casting Long Strider, she’s been lighting up maps.
@@danielcockriel443 the mantle of the holy warrior and luminous armor are both good for this along with your spirit guardians spell. The mantle buffs the rest of the party to doing radiant and the spirit guardians hit anyone close and then benefit from the luminous armor.

i really respect how you frontload your videos. ultimately i dont need to watch the rest once i see the build youre suggesting, but i make sure to leave it playing in the background so you keep the well-earned view time :) i also really love that you acknowledge people have playstyles that dont adhere to the Absolute Best Top Tier choices and you leave room for rp choices. i dont care if i lose 100 honor modes, i'm always choosing the race that fits my rp!
Your tone and way of explaining things has been absolutely amazing. Even if I’m not currently planning a new character I learn a lot from just listening to you passively. Earned a sub, keep up the good work!!
THE BEST THING RECOMMENDED TO ME. I’m a more damage damage damage type of support. I do that in OW as well and decided to try a more “defensive” approach to BG3. Only played honor mode once and barely got far into act 1 because I died to the owlbear. Been more interested in life domain and everytime I try to find advice on reddit all I see is “why are you doing heals, you can just use potions” “light or tempest is better” blah blah blah. I want to try something new, something exciting. I always do the same thing by respec Shart to temp/sorc or light/sorc. After multiple times it gets dull. Really great video and thanks for looking out for people trying new things in the cleric subclasses
I went the trickster route on my way to needing a decent healer/controller build. I’m realizing the utility needs of my party and this build makes sense for what we ask for in/out of battle. 👍
You explaining the backgrounds while im looking at this build for the durge got a chuckle from me I will try this in my secons playthrough even tho i played a full cleric in my first, i've grown to like clerics
Past level 10, the best healer is any class with Devotee's Mace, all gear pieces that trigger on heal (Bless ring, Blade Ward bracers from act 1 changed to act 3 one ASAP, Wapira's Crown), then throw Transfuse Health illithid power on it. Wapira + Devotee's selfheals for a tonn each turn, and Transfuse Health is a gigantic burst heal. You can just reroll any number of characters to cleric then back, and Devotee's aura will be available 24/7. If you do it on your main character you can Transfuse Health as bonus action past the creche too. Not sure which gear piece gives an extra bonus action when below 50% health, but that synergizes with Transfuse Health very well too. EDIT: Staff of ARcane Blessing wasn't working for me when I tried back in patch 1 or 2... has it been fixed since?
Using similar concepts with the healing yourself indirectly mechanic, and getting bless and blade ward indirectly through that; I made a Fighting Healer. 5 Levels Fighter Battle Master, 7 levels Life Cleric, using the Gauntlets of Hill Giant Strength, 18 Wisdom, and GWM. Gives you a strong Melee damage character with Spirit Guardians up, and then you can pump out healing word and mass healing word to heal others + yourself, and keeps up BPS resistance + the indirect bless. I also changed up the fighter part to be an Eldritch Knight with Warcaster instead of GWM for a while, which was able to tank even more fights due to shield, but obviously slightly less melee damage without GWM and Maneuvers. Additionally, I used a Gith for it, so that to have misty step available when required (nothing like misty stepping from one group of enemies to another with Spirit Guardians up!). This was a lot of fun.
In honor mode, I've noticed that having a support character is pretty handy, as some of the legendary powers enemies have, stop you from being able to just burn them down with damage. So with fights being extended, being able to aoe cast a heal that applies blade ward from the gloves you get form Zevlor, and the big heal from the cleric channel divinity charges, that keeps you out of kill range, is pretty nice. I will say, if you really want to, you can still cheese the hell out of most of the fights, but if you want to take them head on and in a legit fashion, having a support character is a good option.
This seems like a well rounded guide, I really liked this variation of the build. Will give this one a try next time I need a healer. I myself went with 2 life cleric and 10 lore bard for extra magical secrets but still got the extra healing from life cleric and the channel divinity. To compensate for the low amount of channel divinities I stole the amulet that gives you an extra charge of it per long rest and it turned out amazing for honour mode
I don't know of anyone else who feels the same way as me (though I'm sure some exist) but I actually am very much against the "kill things quicker" meta gaming for one simple reason: I like fights and I want them to be longer, more detailed, more epic. Having a strong healer/support character in the party lets me draw fights out more.
Thinking of using this in my honor mode playthrough. Thanks! Full party: storm sorcerer/tempest cleric/wizard, life cleric/lore bard, barbarian/fighter or Paladin and thief/gloomstalker
Thank you so much for this video! I always play healers if possible in any RPG, and really was getting disheartened at everyone else’s videos saying healing isn’t really a thing in BG3. I was drastically regretting my first play though Druid build anyway (WoW player so expected more healing capability) and feeling gloomy, so making a new character now with all this info!
Im new to DnD but have been a long time RPGamer. You can Absolutely both heal and (to a lesser degree) tank in the game eventhough a ton of ppl speak against doing both. Seems like most just like big numbers and shorter battles, but anything can be viable. Halfway through my Cleric Paladin 1st playthrough and M going full heals and tanking and its amazing. Every heal buffs and bless and adds temp hp all from 1 heal and I can still hit like a truck and counter hard IF I ever get hit. Frees up my others to focus solel on their roles and is just fun for me personally. Find your lane and enjoy
If you want to maintain the "healer roleplay", always keep the luminous armor on. The debuff is basically an Armor class buffs to all your allies, paired with spirit guardians, then you throw in heals etc. You can still maintain the roleplay aspect of it and actually do great debuffing enemies. Not to mention the possibility of using the reverberation sets with the radiant orb (but thats more agressive)
When I built my healer out I did pretty much the same theme, however I didn't see much value in going Cleric to 6 other than the Short Rest on the Divinity charges. I ended up going 2 life + 10 Lore Bard to pick up the full suite of magical secrets and could then lean harder into CHA. The build does skew towards CC over raw healing, but learning how to prevent damage will become the best form of healing by midgame. With a little bit of cheese, going Life 1 + Wizard 1 gets you full access to the cleric (and other) spell lists through scroll eating and doesn't prevent the level 6 spell slot like a lot of other multi-classing would. with the gear selection in BG3 you can more than make up for not having several stats directly on your build especially if your other party members don't need them.
This build is great, I like running 2 levels in life cleric and 10 levels in lore bard. You loose out on the level 6 heal benefit but you get magical secrets at level 6 and 10 so you can take warden of vitality and counterspell at lvl 6 (or 8) and then take mass healing word and hunger of hadar at lvl 12 (bard 10)
Counterspell, haste, and banishing smite are also pretty cool options, could even take lightning bolt or fire ball if you want some more damaging spells (although glyph of warding and dissonant whispers are already pretty good)
@@iAmMuu absolutely, I just generally leave my healer with cc and heals and leave buffs and offensive spells for other characters. Since most of the cc spells call for concentration, I don’t try to fit haste in the mix
With the Wis/Cha stat spread, for a Tav, Githyanki works pretty well. Their Racial can let you focus proficiencies into one stat, then Astral Knowledge the other to get the best of both worlds and have great dialogue rolls.
to me, the best choices for this type of healers is either a half-orc for its self revive ability, in the of chance you do go down, or the halfling for its lucky ability to reroll a bad dice(and its size modifier).
one level into paladin devotion would be better for life cleric due to getting a free short rest heal eveyr battle that you can use and heal a ton from. frankly dont regret going that route at all and you can even have the cleric smite as well due to not spending all their spell slots into healing with healing radiance, lay on hands for blessing and blade ward too
I feel like BG3 is a lot like Gloomhaven. A skilled party will make sure to handle enemies by Killing, CrowdControlling or Outranging them. The option to tank and heal is possible but strictly worse than a party focusing on the above three. That being said the value of having some healing is very high, but you get deminishing returns as you keep investing in healing+tanking instead of handling the enemies. Really cool if Larion has made it possible to play BG3 like it was a World of Warcraft group in dungeons! :D
I like playing as a medic in most games that allow me but i also like to run in and beat up enemies if i can. Rn I'm doing an Eilistree life cleric and college of swords Drow tho I'm thinking of changing to college of lore after seeing this even tho Eilistree is the maiden of swords. Having more spells to cast from a distance would b great since I'm trying to b lore accurate and not use a bow. I like having a healer for those dire moments in combat where ur all about to go down but the heals keep ppl hanging in there for the last push. My brother is the 'run and gun' kind of player but i like to have a somewhat balance to my combat. I'm also trying to replace shadowheart since i always have her in my party and want to try a different group but still have good heals. This was really helpful thanx for the in depth explanations making it easy to understand
This is very cool and powerful in the early to mid game, and a great main character (thanks to Bard skills and sweet level 3 spells). Even better as a main character if you go Swords bard for that extra attack at level 6, though you lose cutting words. But you still might want to get a Cleric in your party to level 11 for level 6 Cleric spells.
If you go Sword Bard you would also loose the Spells you get as Lore Bard. (Only lore can pick 2 spells at level 6 and 10, other schools only get the spells at level 10 bard)
@@whoopontrose2517 true. There are always trade offs. In this case, you give up cutting words, two expertise skills (iirc), and one spell, in exchange for flourishes and an extra attack.
Ive been using hellriders the whole time but i wondered about if there was any gl9ves that might be good to have as well but seeing this im 100% getting those gloves you mentioned
I understand the appeal of healing, my kink is getting blamed for raid wipes which is why I’ve always played healers in mmo’s. However healing just isn’t the best thing you can do with your turn in combat in my experience. Still it’s a good build I’ll probably play around with it sometime. Always solid ideas even if you still haven’t finished the game.
Healing isn't great but spamming partywide bless and bladeward as soon as you get to the emerald grove is pretty good I'd personally go bard -> 2 life cleric -> 9 more lore bard, I like getting the 2 sets of magical secrets
oof lol. I usually paired it with the level 2 life cleric passive n a few pieces of gear. There is definitely an argument to be made it isn't enough healing. That also why I like being able to cast it twice per turn with rogue thief.@@RonnieMyers777
Instead of 6 cleric been thinking of 5 cleric and 1 storm sorc. This gives you constitution saving throws without using a feat plus you can fly after casting a spell for greater battlefield management. And having access to magic missile for those resistances on honor mode doesn't hurt. No bonus heal for yourself, but use shield and proper positioning and you shouldn't be getting hit.
Not to mention that there are several early game items that benefit healing spells a lot by adding other buffs to it. So healing does so much more when you get these items. Now sure for mid maxing I wouldnt be surprised if damage is better overall. But as you say healing for most players will be very beneficial because it allows you to go into encounterns un-prepared and make it out alive while if you are all about offense then you need to know what will happend.
Healing by itself is not efficient but that is not how it works in BG3. There are several items that make healing provide blade ward and bless every time you heal. Items like these make healing wildly more efficient.
Did a life ceric in my first co-op run, adding the Bard would of helped the filler time a bit more. I would probably stick with heavy armor and use the forged shield that also removes crits, so the healer is alive longer. One thing I am noticing with a lot of honor mode runs, seems casters are more defensive or buffing/cc than outright damage dealers. Curious what others are seeing or experiencing?
Concentration is easy if noone targets you... focus on stat increases instead of unnecessary feats that you have made irrelevant by better role choices on healer/support.
Unfortunately the Staff of Arcane Blessing doesnt really do what it says it does. It just gives spell attack rolls 2d4 and the rest are still 1d4. They really should either change its description or update the effect.
Could you explore the war magic feat from eldritch knight with eldritch blast from warlock? If I'm not mistaken you'd get 3 eldritch blast followed by a weapon attack. There are some gloves that makes ranged spells not have disadvantage in melee that might go well with this
@ItalianSpartacus Just wondering can you do this build and also min max your medicine proficiency to craft alchemy and potions and the like? Would love to see a video on how to do this :) Thanks for posting great content
Personally i would suggest to start with Bard. You get a broader choice of proficiencys. Though that depends on beeing Mainchar or not. Also consider going 3 Life Cleric, 6 Bard Lore, 3 Rogue-Thief and heavly lean on the Warden of Vitality and heal with bonus actions. 3 Life Cleric for the Aid Spell. you wont get a max level spell slot this way, but well, such things happen.
I am interested in seeing this particular build specifically applied to Shadowheart. I have noticed in respec-ing certain named characters that there is sometimes things you cannot change because it is the story of that particular character. So can this build suit Shadowheart?
What are the thoughts on going 10 or so life cleric for that divine intervention on honour mode? Say you are about to get team wiped on honour mode because of a new mechanic you did not see coming or are having especially bad luck for an encounter - that divine intervention could literally make or break a run by giving you a second chance on an otherwise potentially doomed run which you have sunk hours upon hours into. So I'm torn between going 6/6 bard / cleric like this vid or full cleric for that safety clutch
I never felt the need for a dedicated healer on my honor mode run. if an encounter is going so badly that you desperately need a healer, you should probably reevaluate your approach. I had a Paladin/Fighter and a Bard/Rogue as Tank and CC respectively that were able to heal, but that wasn’t their main job. It’s kind of a waste of a party slot to have a dedicated healer on Honor Mode because you should be setting up fights to win overwhelmingly. It doesn’t matter how long your healer can sustain the rest of the party for if they can’t do enough damage or are completely outnumbered. With the availability of healing potions and the fact that martials rarely use their bonus actions it’s not really that much of a problem IMO. I’d rather have a Monk with Alert feat and Stunning Strike than a dedicated cleric tbh that said, a 1 level dip for Sanctuary can be absolutely clutch for survival so that is something to consider.
@@IliumGaming I agreed initially but being able to boost party damage with the bless / mystras bless, give them blade ward and hastes could be clutch. I 100% agree it's not as meta to go healer but being able to boost team dmg, handle CC, buff the party and such seems like a pretty good and justifiable party slot despite lower dmg.
Not gonna lie this build is broken, One action and you heal everyone in radius, Give them a free blessing, resist to physical damage Personally picked mythril armor and the Birthright hat, Fits the bard vibe and gives more charisma
Damn dude I want to be a bard and explore as many levels as possible into bard, but at the same time I want to have mass cure wounds on my bard. Is 3 bard 9 cleric viable at all?
I have been watching for a bit and started playing yesterday on Consol. So not pertaining to this video specifically. But do we not get Feats on Consol? I haven't seen Feats at Character creation at all.
Uhm, choosing dex skills at lvl up when dex is 10, why? Heavy armor and stealth, why? Why is a support/healer doing damage so much? (Is there a need for so many damaging spells?) If you don't need heals, make another dps; if you need a healer focus on that (so they can hide in sanctuary without risk of losing concentration). You seem unfocused on the goal of winning fights because the "creation" is a hybrid and not a perfected/polished healer (with ritual spells & buffs not dependent on stats, heals dependent on one stat and further buffed by class skills and gear) Note: 40:38 warden of vitality demonstrated well btw. 42:18 mass healing word... correct use (every 2 turns to restore buffs on all party members utilizing the "on heal" gear) If you intend to respec, waiting half way through the video, I am hoping for this to sync up with the title of video. 28:54 - 37:54 great gear (except as stated above, sanctuary removes the "need" to stress out about concentration) 1) have "on heal" gear (4-5) -> get benefits 2) give bardic inspiration gear (4) -> get benefits 3) raise ac to 20+ to further reduce risk, + passive heal gear (helm and regen ring -> not discussed) Most players don't think healers are flashy/fun, but saving the party in a pinch and having people relying on you to pull "their bacon out of the fire" (being competent enough to accomplish that in a timely/consistent way is beautiful thing.) In honor mode, it is required. (No room for mistakes) Each role: tank, melee dps, ranged/magical dps, support/healer all have a niche in combat of rpgs. None should be scoffed at or looked as being less important. They work together and have synergy. (Are they supposed to be carbon-copies of each other?) No! Delagate, execute, gather accolades/rewards at the end. A winning formula that shouldn't be abandoned so quickly. Skill/expertise are not a possession of babies, but a party that is resilient/adaptable will weather the storm.
or u could just use 4 hierlings / companions in camp with 3 cleric 5 abjuration wizzard and cast blade ward on u're whole party and replace the healer with a dps since u'll have 50% dmg reduction permanent. also u didnt mention PERIAPT OF WOUND CLOSURE amulet which makes every heal u cast a max roll (10-52 becomes 52 all the time)

This was really helpful thanx for the in depth explanations making it easy to understand
I normally dont comment or like. But i did because u front loaded the video. Still watched the whole thing too ❤
I think I'll be using this for my Life Cleric character. I don't know what I'll have Shadowheart do in that case though.
Just what I was looking for
This is very cool and powerful in the early to mid game, and a great main character (thanks to Bard skills and sweet level 3 spells).
I always called this build the Choir Boy.
Healing isn't great but spamming partywide bless and bladeward as soon as you get to the emerald grove is pretty good
I'd personally go bard -> 2 life cleric -> 9 more lore bard, I like getting the 2 sets of magical secrets
Ya I hate surviving
Life Cleric+Sanctuary+animate dead+ summons+CC+bless = IMMORTALITY
Subbed, Just started a Honor mode playthrough and thought Clerb would be good. Vid does a great job at explaining everything
Another good one is Abjuration Wizard-2/Life Cleric-10.
I was so interested when you said 6 in life (said light like a goob)cleric. I usually just go one light cleric 11 lore. Curious to hear more!
@@Sigh_Bold oh fuck my bad I mistyped. Yes, I’ll edit life not light!
@@Sigh_Bold but light cleric is awesome for a support character! The subclass feature is sooo strong!
@@YsidorohI feel like light is perfect for a tank
@@Ysidoroh100% agree. Light is great especially for tank.
I made a Life Cleric/Thief Rogue for the extra bonus action heals.
New sub and new BG3 player since the Xbox release. 30 hours in
It’s also fun to give up 3-4 levels of life cleric for rouge thief, for 2 bonus actions. You can then cast warden of vitality twice 👌
My lvl6 Lore Bard has warden of vitality but its only doing like +4HP 😓
Defo doing this for my shadowheart origin
I think healing in this game is very important for your average player personally
Thanks for tge help
Healing by itself is not efficient but that is not how it works in BG3. There are several items that make healing provide blade ward and bless every time you heal. Items like these make healing wildly more efficient.
here to comment support!!
Thank you!
Support/healer who hides in sanctuary while the other 3 (who are topped off, buffed, gassed up) are doing the damage.
Concentration is easy if noone targets you... focus on stat increases instead of unnecessary feats that you have made irrelevant by better role choices on healer/support.
Easily the worst thing about this game is the fanbase. "I need help with X." "Get gud, chode. I cheesed it with a lvl 1 druid."
wooooww! good for you!
Unfortunately the Staff of Arcane Blessing doesnt really do what it says it does. It just gives spell attack rolls 2d4 and the rest are still 1d4. They really should either change its description or update the effect.
I've dubbed this the "Cool Youth Pastor" build
Could you explore the war magic feat from eldritch knight with eldritch blast from warlock? If I'm not mistaken you'd get 3 eldritch blast followed by a weapon attack. There are some gloves that makes ranged spells not have disadvantage in melee that might go well with this
@ItalianSpartacus Just wondering can you do this build and also min max your medicine proficiency to craft alchemy and potions and the like?
Would love to see a video on how to do this :)
Thanks for posting great content
I prefer Ancients Paladin/Light Cleric.
Could you show us a passive aura build if it's possible?
I like shadowheart as monk/cleric
do you think that almost copying this set up but using light cleric for more flexibility would work nice?
Doing this with 3 conjugation builds would be super strong
I'm not sure why you had to take Bard to get Warden of Vitality? It's right there in my pure cleric's known spell list.
Just put one up todya!!
I’d rather have a Monk with Alert feat and Stunning Strike than a dedicated cleric tbh
that said, a 1 level dip for Sanctuary can be absolutely clutch for survival so that is something to consider.
I found Sacred flame to work pretty well past level 5. Your spell dc is just too low before that
Cleric goess brrr
Healers are great if you arnt just cheesing the game mechanics.
I don’t cheese so I always keep a healer with me 😂 Couldn’t imagine it without
Ain't there some bard spells that uses int? Bit like a small group of paladin spells that uses wisdom?
Not gonna lie this build is broken, One action and you heal everyone in radius, Give them a free blessing, resist to physical damage
Personally picked mythril armor and the Birthright hat, Fits the bard vibe and gives more charisma
Right!? Mwhahah
@@italianspartacus I hard a lot of hype and jokes about Bards after playing one myself yea... I can see why they are broken
Damn dude I want to be a bard and explore as many levels as possible into bard, but at the same time I want to have mass cure wounds on my bard. Is 3 bard 9 cleric viable at all?
Comment for algorithm. Thank you!
I have been watching for a bit and started playing yesterday on Consol. So not pertaining to this video specifically. But do we not get Feats on Consol? I haven't seen Feats at Character creation at all.
Every 4 levels is in said class gives you a feat
how do you apply bless with heals? that is awesome
It's the.... Boots or the gloves, I can't recall! It's awesome though
Why not use the amulet that makes sure we heal for max??
Uhm, choosing dex skills at lvl up when dex is 10, why? Heavy armor and stealth, why?
Why is a support/healer doing damage so much? (Is there a need for so many damaging spells?)
If you don't need heals, make another dps; if you need a healer focus on that (so they can hide in sanctuary without risk of losing concentration).
You seem unfocused on the goal of winning fights because the "creation" is a hybrid and not a perfected/polished healer (with ritual spells & buffs not dependent on stats, heals dependent on one stat and further buffed by class skills and gear)
Note: 40:38 warden of vitality demonstrated well btw. 42:18 mass healing word... correct use (every 2 turns to restore buffs on all party members utilizing the "on heal" gear)
If you intend to respec, waiting half way through the video, I am hoping for this to sync up with the title of video.
28:54 - 37:54 great gear (except as stated above, sanctuary removes the "need" to stress out about concentration)
1) have "on heal" gear (4-5) -> get benefits
2) give bardic inspiration gear (4) -> get benefits
3) raise ac to 20+ to further reduce risk, + passive heal gear (helm and regen ring -> not discussed)
Most players don't think healers are flashy/fun, but saving the party in a pinch and having people relying on you to pull "their bacon out of the fire" (being competent enough to accomplish that in a timely/consistent way is beautiful thing.) In honor mode, it is required. (No room for mistakes)
Each role: tank, melee dps, ranged/magical dps, support/healer all have a niche in combat of rpgs.
No healing; just killing! :p
Random comment for UA-cam algorithm
Short rests and death saves nerfed healing injto the ground. You want to make healing better revert those two rules to 3rd edition rules.
Piety, not piousness.
or u could just use 4 hierlings / companions in camp with 3 cleric 5 abjuration wizzard and cast blade ward on u're whole party and replace the healer with a dps since u'll have 50% dmg reduction permanent. also u didnt mention PERIAPT OF WOUND CLOSURE amulet which makes every heal u cast a max roll (10-52 becomes 52 all the time)
ONLY if cast on yourself :)
@@italianspartacus uhm yep ... my bad ... just tested and u are right (shows my wast experience playing healers :) )
Hahaha no worries at all man!! I looked at it too!
That is super boring.
U forgot about the amulet that maximise healing every time
It only applies to heals that target the user :(

I absolutely getting sick of you dudes telling medium and light Armor classes to wear heavy Armor Like the Splintmail 33:42 those stupid range classes are stealing early Game armors for group tanks because of your freaking advice.
This Shit Ruins whole group combs in the early Game.
Calm down wtf!!
He gave medium and heavy armor recommendations. No need to get upset.
