- You’ve probably seen the ads for them. Spit in a test tube, send it a company such as 23andMe or Ancestry.com and in return you’ll find out what your genetic ethnicity is, with you being able to see if your ancestors came from regions such as Europe, East Asia or Sub-Saharan Africa for example.

Concerns me how this could be used by insurance companies for conditions found through your DNA testing. Eg if you had some certain markers for disease, you get higher premiums.
They explicitly state they do not do this
They do not do this and say so. So if they did use that it would be a nice lawsuit if you could prove this would happen and an attorney would take such a case.
The golden state killer was caught because a relative used an online ancestry test and it closely matched DNA left at a crime scene. Obviously these companies collaborate with the government, who knows if they do the same with insurance companies, but it’s good that he was caught. Lots of potential benefits and risks to this new technology.

Forget it. They've been caught selling the DNA. I'm not sharing anything with anyone even if it's free.
@@Mr.C-Mister I remember seeing that the golden gate killer got caught through ancestry services sharing data to the FBI.
Blood, Skin and Hair is also more accurate in terms of dissecting DNA then spits.
I don't personally understand all the madness about being proud of your ancestry, it's not something you have control of. Interesting video nonetheless. Will be interesting to see if anything comes out of them having the ability to sell this data off.
It is called gratitude. You won't understand.

Testing as detailed as Ashkenazi Jewish but not Greek/Mediterranean area is weird to me.
Mostly owned by Israelis so obviously they'd bias for "Jewish ancestry".

well there are millions of people with ashkenazi jewish ancestry so it makes sense. 11 million is enough to be valid.

If it helps serial killers get caught I am all for it
impossible, a serial killer is not traceable by dna! they get done mostly due to cultural and context exposition!

@@raeanne5793 Can they really though? DNA evidence can be quite misleading at a crime scene, it's not nearly as easy as movies portray it to be. Statistics (regarding DNA and the likelihood of the person actually committing a crime) in the courtroom is a highly debated topic and led to life sentences for numerous wrongly convicted people.
I’ve done an ancestry dna test in the uk..I may have a daughter in Australia if she does an ancestry test there will it show if I’m her dad or not?
