I do have relatives that have had it done and I’m not listed as a match because they don’t have a sample of my spit. I already know my ancestry without supplying a DNA sample. I don’t jump on every bandwagon the majority run after. I like to wait and watch much like FB; how wonderful an idea that was. They seem to be running into problems lately. If someone wants something from me I prefer they just ask me for it instead of using deceit as a means to get it.

    • @RosannaMiller
      @RosannaMiller 6 років тому +29

      A single person can take three different tests. The reason they are using identical triplets is because the results should be identical. Dependent on whether they are identical or not, that should tell you whether the tests are good or not.

    • @blakegillpuente3904
      @blakegillpuente3904 6 років тому +21

      Typically in science, we do things in multiples and apply statistics to get arround any discrepancies that may arise from unexpected sources (human error, equipment error, random occurrences, etc). So, it makes sense to do triplicates of each test, knowing that the source of each should be identical.

    • @trinitibeauty9732
      @trinitibeauty9732 6 років тому +11

      Yeah I do agree they could have used 1 person but using 3 identical triplets with 3 different tests each should show more accuracy with the tests between each of them. So it shows that every single test taken wasn't just jumbled BS false results.

    I took part in a special study with 23 and Me and various science departments at my alma mater, Penn State about 8 years ago. More in depth than the 23 and Me kit you get via mail, I had to fill bigger and more test vials with spit, they took a chunk of my hair (I do not dye it, it is about 99% gray), scanned a digital image of my head, sampled skin. I was just starting ancestry research and knew my mother's family was 100% Scottish and my dad was mostly German. That was true, so no surprises there. What was amazing was the traits and health info I got, and continue to get. I ordered a test for my.husband, but made a mistake. It was NOT 23 and Me. I got Ancestry. It was NOT accurate and did not have the health and traits stuff 23 and Me did. We knew his paternal ancestry was Irish and English and his maternal was Polish and French, and Canadian. I had a lot of research on them. Ancestry dna had almost none of that in the records. So then I got him 23 and me... it was VERY accurate. Fast forward to 2016. I was diagnosed with cancer of the uterus, and 6 months later breast cancer and then another breast cancer. I shared all my ancestry research... NO cancer in my family, and my genetics are clear. I have one damaged gene that makes me very sensitive to drugs and alcohol, my liver can't process them well, so they went light on anesthesia. Even so, I am hard to bring out of anesthesia. My surgeon took my case before the tumor board of the Cleveland and Akron hospitals dealing with cancer. They recommended a full DNA test ( blood samples) at one of the 4 top research centers in the country. Guess what? Just like the 23 and Me data. This allowed me to opt in or out for Chemo, so i said no. I did do radiation, and my DNA also qualified me for short course, just 4 weeks. I am really glad I did the 23 and Me test before cancer hit. My cancers are from my body creating too much estrogen, even post Menopause at 42, and post full hysterectomy in 2016 so I take estrogen blockers.

      First off, I am sorry to hear about your cancer situation. Glad you are still here to tell the tail. You seem strong and can deal with anything. Nevertheless, Ancestry has been known for being one of the most accurate, more than 23 and me. It's not about which one is better, it's about which one has more samples. Unless it was when ancestry just started off and had limited samples, this story is missing some pieces. Also, you have to know how dna works. I would have to see it for myself to believe that all of this was the way you say. I have taken 5 different dna tests. They all came back similar, some had more or less and some were close but limited on the closest sample. Although,I know how dna works and had a good understanding of why they weren't all the same.

      @@never_give_up90 The time frame for my story is Fall of 2016, when I got my cancer #1 diagnosis. World Search Ancestry membership kept my mind and body busy every day researching my family history, and my husband's family. He had a Widow Maker heart Attack in Sept 2014. I had done the ADAPT 23 and Me study in 2012 at Penn State University...but again, it was NOT the kit you get at home. It was administered by professionals and included computer scans of My face, bone structure, hair and skin samples and a lot of saliva. The National DNA testing center at Akron Babies and Children's hospital my cancer center ordered was based on blood samples. Ancestry is ok for holograms, but not genetics. The medical profession scoffs at both Ancestry and 23 and Me. Yet the 23 and Me results for me and my spouse, which keep updating monthly as study data grows are very on target.

    • @never_give_up90
      @never_give_up90 2 роки тому

      Adapt research is on going and their dna research is based on identifying how traits and diversity works. What they asked of you, is typical for that reason but not necessary for simple traits or just generic make up. You can also do that but it will cost too much out of pocket. DNA gene pool has been increasing more and more. 23 and me is still not more accurate than Ancestry. It still has less of a gene pool and it is better in some areas. This is why, it is recommended to do more than one. That said, your genetics were still limited and are to this day, even if they get updated. We have a long road to perfect any of those gene pools.

So using them to check the accuracy of various companies is an invalid approach unless you have all three test with all three companies then see which set of test results is the most consistent and that is the one you want. Ancestry dot com has the biggest data base so they have the ability to give the most detailed results.

It also assigned me to the correct communities: East Central Louisiana Acadians and Louisiana Creole’s and African Americans. There are also many other cool tools on that site. 23 and me was confusing and very vague. Heritage DNA didn’t make sense about my family and compared to Ancestry DNA. If they’re not that I would be skeptical. Plus the results are constantly being updated. My results showed certain percentages than a year later I receive an email with “updates results” and my percentages changed dramatically. Also, I find that unless you really have no idea of your parentage there are never any surprises.

    I took the Ancestry test a few years ago and it seems extremely unreliable. The results keep "updating" every month, which drastically changes the results. For example, when I first took the test it said I was 10% British, and now after a certain number of updates (a few years later) I'm suddenly 0% British. At first I was also 85% Scandinavian and now after a few updates I'm suddenly 98% Scandinavian. Before I had some Polish/Lithuanian/Russian DNA, and now that's suddenly at 0%. It seems incredibly sketchy that it's constantly changing THAT drastically. It almost seems like they keep randomly changing your result in order to get you to come back to their service and perhaps spend more money on it.
