These videos are some of the best you’ve done. The content is really interesting, and seeing how the different studios track makes this a great learning experience for us.
It makes me smile seeing SO MANY PEOPLE using a U47-FET (or look-a-like) on Kick. I was doing that in the late 70s and loved it then!!! Thanks for the video.
would love to hear a shootout of those and the 208! Since snare mic is also 100 to 200 less it's more obtainable for me to get a bunch of them @@Producelikeapro
Hey guys there are a few negative comments here, lets remember everyone has to learn along the way including us. I've certainly been in a studio at some point with people far more experienced than myself, but I tried to enjoy it and learn. It seems like these folks are enjoying making music and learning from the experience too. All good in my book!
Cool :) One of the albums I was singing on, the Engineer and Producer were running onto Tape , and coming right off the repro head into the DAW. I really liked how the Tape Saturation added a nice warmth and a little bump in the lower end.@@Producelikeapro
Haha this is from a course Darrell did. Fully recorded at Studio 606 on their Neve. Is the micing he does on every album he makes! It just so happens he loves Lauten and Royer!
@@Producelikeapro Yep is anyway a good choice, I've tested some Lauten Audio mics and they are awesome, I've 2x LS-208 that I constantly use for guitars, tested the LS-308 for live guitar miking in a stage, great rejection capability
This clip started out good…until the drummer started to play and open his mouth. Super cringe. Couldn’t even consistently count in, didn’t play to a click, obviously came in unprepared. He wouldn’t even have gotten a call back if I had auditioned him.
Those are the mics he uses on every record! Haha It's part of a course, it's an excerpt, so certainly not an Ad as it wasn't originally meant for UA-cam!
Hi Justin, it's a band! This is a perfect example of real world recording! Bringing in session players that cost thousands isn't going to help our viewers very much!
Negatory! All our 'sponsored' videos are always listed as such. These are the actual mics that Darrell uses on all the albums he makes, Foo Fighters etc. It's actually just an excerpt from a course we did with Darrell. Thanks
Honestly, the title here is missing either "LAUTEN AUDIO PRESENTS:" or a very clear "WITH LAUTEN AUDIO MICS" at the end of the title. Don't get me wrong, I like (and use a few) Lauten Audio mics, and I have maximum respect for Darrell Thorp's work, but let's not be coy - this is a very poorly disguised Lauten Audio commercial, regardless of how fun or interesting the studio footage is. All this constantly present sales pitching is really ruining a lot of these YT channels and their credibility, IMHO. 🤷🏼♂️ Eh, PLAP PLAP...
Yes, Darrell is a huge user of Lauten Audio Mics. We filmed this at the Foo Fighters Studio 606 and all the Mics are Darrell’s own Mics. It is not sponsored by Lauten Audio, they are just the Mics he lives to use on all the records he makes. Many thanks, Warren
I looked past the Lauten Audio advertisement and wanted to see if any unique recording or mixing techniques emerged. Pretty standard mic'ing, and no mixing tips.
Hi@@tracyeaves4847 It's not an advertisement! It's actually part of a long course. Darrell uses Lauten Mics on all of those Foo Fighters record etc, they are just what he loves! Thanks ever so much
Well again if all those mics were Neumanns, sennheisers and/or shures would you be mad and calling this commercial just because they were those brands in this video? There is some weird hate going on when people use Lewit, Austrian audio or such newer brands that definitely deliver the goods, like wtf.

hey Warren, what brand of small mixers is he using and what are they being used for? They are in the guitar room and next to the drummer?
Sm57 on snare, sm7b HH, SE Vkick & e609 for kick and Lewitt 040match as OH(thanks to you ;-) )
Mackie mixer used for the monitor mix so each player can make their own mix @@zorroinhell5549

@@zorroinhell5549I can’t quite see! Probably Mackie? Studios use mixers like that for musicians to be able to set up their own headphone mixes
Darrell's no nonsense, common sense way of doing things is very refreshing!
Agreed 100%! Thanks ever so much!
Darrell is so laid back. He doesn't have the all too common snobbish vibe. He's just doing his thing and explaining it along the way. I like him! 🤓

Neumann U87s for overheads, FET 47 on the Kick, SM57 snare, AKG D112 and anything else matched condensers available will do for rooms.

Such a privilege to be able to see an engineer at this level thank you so much for your content Warren!!

Darrell is THE DUDE. I love any video he's in.
Yes! He certainly is
I have a couple of LS 208's and also a Royer 121. Nice combination of mics here

Would the snare mic also work, and maybe even be better than the 308 hammer mics, on toms?

Are those Camco drums with an acrolite snare? Sounds awesome. Love what you do on this youtube channel. Tons of useful information.

Was wondering if You're running a clasp type setup ? Like going to tape and coming right off immediately into DAW ? Great Video !
I think it’s coming g off of the repo head, you can do that without CLASP, or just make it on Tape then transfer to Pro Tools for Mixing!

Y'all have any recording massive drum sets vids? I've been scrolling for a minute but yet to find any
