I see English, Scottish, Irish, and German. I thinks it's a conglomeration of the different ethnic groups that settled the west. I wouldn't be surprised if there were Scandinavian influences as well. I don't know enough about Scandinavian dance to see it though.

went to a second hand store in Libby (I love you) and bought a skirt and blouse. thought it ad look nice until later someone commented on my train tour "going to the dance" via which I found out I had bought an outfit for square dance from the 60.
I was informed that schools still teach square dance. very nice. our children are taught to run after a ball and kick it. barmy. to cooperate together is Far more commendable.

  • @jiuppahayden

Just as we have called eastern Appalachian dancing, cued contra dance, clogging, and hoedown this side of the Mississippi (TN).....(most involving lines, circles, and hand work as well as heavy duty exercise) there is western hoedown and traditional circle and reel dancing, often involving clogging and arm lifts and likewise lots of energy. There is called square dance that is hoe down style with lots of repetition for couples in the formation. Idaho is a wonderful example of natural beauty, charming communities, and agricultural plots as far as the eye can see. Western square dancing we see now around the world is a composite of many of the activities used til now.

@@anna-if8fi that just shows your ignorance. Cuz A LOT of Americans DO openly practices their ancestors culture. Especially in the rural areas where I live. It hasn't died out here. our folk music and dancing is the same as yours (maybe a little different, but that just happens with time) this kind of culture/tradition have been thriving since its arrival to this country in the 1600s, and it's not going anywhere.
