Thanks for making this video. It baffles me how all these RV dealers seem to know nothing about axle alignment and their go to statement is that you must have hit something and bent the suspension. RV’s are built so quickly & so poorly today, that I would guess 75% of RV’s on the road today have axle alignment issues. Our 2015 Keystone Cougar has had a tire wear issue since new, that I have been dealing with by rotating tires. It came with the LCI Correct Track system on it. I removed all 4 tires today for a tire swap. So, I decided that I’m tackling the alignment issue tomorrow. My plan is to hang a string from dead center on the hitch, and square up each hub to that center line. That should keep the trailer in line with the tow unit, and keep the tires perfectly aligned as well. Once I get it all squared up with axles hanging unloaded, I will try to measure everything with the trailer fully loaded on the ground as well. Hopefully it all comes out perfect. Again, thanks for the video. Paying someone else to try to do this and mess it up just isn’t an option in my mind. 30 yr career as heavy equipment mechanic, says it won’t be all that hard, but my OCD might make it hard. 😂
Dealers seem to know absolutely nothing about travel trailers other than to get you to sign your name on the sales documents. How many times have you seen someone at a campground or going down the road that did not know what they're doing?
Thanks for your humble effort, Brent. Rear passenger tire on my 2014 GD Reflection 33-30 had outside of tire completely bald. With Correct Track was able to pull it forward with 2 turns of the cam washer, equaling 1/2”. It now matches the opposite side for distance center to center. Road trip in two weeks and I’ll hopefully update this post with positive news. Cheers 😊
Just a tip from a 40 year mechanic pull your trailer In a straight line on level ground for at least 50’ Try to measure from Rim to rim and not from the plastic center caps Other than that this gentleman Is giving you good advice
Perfect example of - "If you want it done right, do it yourself"! I could fill up an 8 gig thumb drive with stories regarding shoddy construction, flimsy materials, and outright lies, that we have, and continue to have, with our current house. We live if FL, and the lack of work ethic, and customer service is astounding. We have learned to do things, regarding "home repair", that we never would have attempted before. After paying knuckleheads, to "fix" our issues, and finding out that they made the problem worse, we now try to do everything, except 2 story work, ourselves. Big learning curve, but very satisfying when you do the job yourself, and it is "correct".Enjoy your vids. Have a blessed day.
Hey CM! Right you are buddy. I see incompetence everywhere, and there's so much of it, I wouldn't even know where to begin. Thanks for the time and comments! :O)
We went to a seminar at our RV dealer yesterday and heard about the Lippert Correct Track and how it can be retrofitted to our 2018 Grand Design Reflection 303 RLS. The dealer installs it and can realign the axles using lasers for measurement. Sounds like a good idea to me, so I', planning to go ahead and have it installed on our 5th wheel. Thanks for your video - it showed me exactly what is involved and how important it is!
Wow, so the new ones don't come with it. I'm very glad mine did 'cause most told me I had to have the axles bent. Crazy, eh? Safe and wonderful travels Eric.
Great video! I have noticed for a long time that my x-chocks will not swap out after being loosened. I have the same system and will make the change. It’s about a half inch as well out.
Easy fix! It's a shame dealerships are like that. I realize they need to make money but if nothing else ask if the customer has this tracking system and if not, offer to install one. Same trouble I have with dealerships for my vehicles. Take it in there and the car magically has $2000 worth of work that needs to be done! Yikes! My vehicle came with $10.99 oil changes. I took it into the dealership for the oil change and it came back out with the oil change, but also the $30 tire rotation and the 100 point vehicle inspection that cost another $30. Of course they found what they said was several immediate needs. I left there about $78 dollars tax and all poorer. Then the dealership was sold and they the new owners didn't honor the $10.99 oil changes any more. So I bought myself an extractor and change my own oil now! Gotta watch them! Take care and be safe. Tom
I appreciate your knowledge and needed this information. A nother man took a plum bob and went to the center of the front tire on both sides and then put a nail in the ground where the plum bob touched the ground. Then went to the center of the tongue and dropped the plum bob to the ground and put a nail there also then measured the distance it should be the same from the center of the tongue to each nail in the center of each wheel . Thanks from alma in the middle of the mitt ✋in Michigan . My wife is from monette ark .
I bought a laser measure with plum as well. Very similar, but used targets on the front tire since the laser measures the distance. I thought about trying to make that work, but what I ended up figuring out was that 3 of 4 were perfect so I went with this instead even after buying the laser stuff. It fixed the issue. I've been thousands of miles since. We've been wanting to go to the UP for vacation, but haven't made it yet. Was in Cheboygan last year visiting family before heading over to Niagara Falls, then on to Maine and Halifax NS.
I discovered the same exact issue today on my rear tire only it was on the inside tread. Only 15K and all the others are fine. For fear of a blow out down the line it will be replaced. I'm assuming since it's the inside tread of the rear tire I will have to move it forward? I will also take a measurement of the other side being that the other 3 tires are all wearing equally. Thanks for sharing this video. Saved me a lot of guesswork, aggravation and money.
I'd do your latter step. Measure the distance of the two good tires on the one side. Let's call the good tires Side A. Then start at the good tire on the opposite side and measure distance to the bad tire. Let's call the bad side Side B for bad. Move bad tire only on Side B till it matches the exact distance on Side A. That could be forward or backwards. That's what I did anyway. I sure hope you get this one nailed down and please let me know how it goes. I'm curious.
Being it's the inside that is worn I'm assuming it has to go forward to the measurement of the opposite side? I really appreciate the help. Thanks again. @@brentginastravelingadventures
Thank you. FYI on my used travel trailer, duel axle, that have had one ware like yours. Apond investigation previous owner replaced only one leaf spring that caused the ware. It was fixed by replacing all spring, both sides and hard ware.
I have the same thing but my left rear tire is 1/2 BACK too far. wearing the inside of the tire (pointing slightly out) Don't have a cam assy but discovered my leaf spring plate is slightly tilted forward pushing the axle back. Going to jack up that side loosen the u bolts nuts holding the spring tight to the axle and pull the axle slightly forward till the plate is parallel with the ground and re-tighten the u bolts nuts.
Did you check the other side to see if that measurement changed? I'm having a similar problem with my Jayco Eagle HT 280RSOK. But I don't have the correct track installed. I guess I'm in for another expense on the money pit.
I did an extra-measure check as I tend to do and it was exactly the same. I figured since it's bolted at that distance. The real kicker is the thousands of miles since with regular wear. 100% fixed.
I have the same trailer and the same problem. Front outer edge is warring. Last year I also upgraded to heavier springs because the kitchen rear spring went flat. I also had a broken inside shackle on the dinette rear axle. Good to hear you solved your tire ware issue. I saw your video a year ago and checked my measurements and they were good, but this year I have the tire ware. I’ll check it again. If it is good then I’ll have to get it in to see if I have a bent spindle
@@brentginastravelingadventures Hope so, taking it in to have the alignment checked in the Am. I checked all the measurements and there was a 1/4 " difference from side to side. Not sure if rotating the adjustment washer will give that little of an adjustment so we will see what the trailer and spring shop has to say. This correct track system has got me thinking, if the alignment was installed correctly in the first place, why would you ever have to adjust it later. seems like putting the cart in front of the horse
@@skymaster1a In my case, I think it was off from the get-go, but barely. Over time, it did it. Maybe it could be something else that went out of whack later on. Who knows.
Brent & Gina's RV Traveling Adventures well they said there was toe out and they were able to bend the axle slightly to bring it into alignment 366.00 later
Thank you I’m going to try this once we get some decent weather here in Alberta Canada. I bought a 2016 Springdale , and I honestly believe I bought the trailer with it dogtailing a wee bit and ass leaning leftward. Right off the lot. I’m going to measure the axles hub to hub tomorrow. And see if I have the same difference. I definitely have a poor radial tire on it now. But I have excessive wear on one tire only and it’s on the left rear tire inside. I really hope this helps my issue. I had a lot of people say my axles were bent or the tires are no good , blah blah blah. This is about a close to hitting the nail on head so far. Thanks again
I have the same issue - left rear tire wore down to the steel belts on justteh one tire. If you dont mind me asking, what did you find was he cause and correction. Thanks...

Oh goodness, I'm certainly not equipped to answer that. I had to look up how to do mine first. :O) I think I'd ask the question in a couple forums like RV.net. Might lead you down the right path.
I have the same problem with the left rear outer rib on mine. The dealer said it's normal. I don't have the cam like you do. I have around 10,000 miles on mine in 2 years. I'm going to go measure mine and see where they are at.
Now that was some good ol common sense. Never have heard that the kind of axle adjustment. Lippert Correct Track. Huh. Another thing for me to look at when I keep looking at trailers. You nailed that and dealers were lost. No faith in these people. Nice job
I am seriously running out of dealership options to consider when I buy again. They keep ticking me off and causing me not to go back. This dealership was over 2 hours way. The previous one near me ticked me off. They're not going to get my business when they aren't fair and honest or worse, incompetent.
Hydroponic Gardening & More with Brent Yep, I’m in No. Va. and nothing around me seems worth a darn. And I haven’t even bought anything from them. I don’t think any of the sales people are there 6 months. I drop by local camping world just to look at. Like to be 35 ft and not too heavy. Cougars seem to built like crap. Jayco seems to be better. Grand Design seems close to Jayco but Definitely more money. Going to drive over hr to check out a dealer in Pa that gets good reviews and has Jayco’s and another one about same distance with Grand Design. Ones close to me, I wouldn’t bye wood at. Even thought of driving 8 hrs to see Haylett Rv in Michigan. They get real good reviews but woolens hate to have to go back for service. It is making the whole thing harder for sure. Kinda hoping the one I’m going to in Pa gives me some good vibes. They are both family owned.
I have the same unit. I see a lot of problems with hydraulic legs and think the electric ones are much less problematic. Thanks for making the video. I have to go and check my measurements now
I had a lot of issues with my hydraulics when I first got it I did buy it used it’s a 2011 cardinal got it 4 years ago my biggest problem was the hydraulics was a all day job just to get them to lower anyways I replaced the computer that operates them them I took all the 30 amp breakers out & replaced them with 40 amp have had no problem since other than it doesn’t want to self level all the time
I have a camber issue on the left rear tandem on my 28' Terry TT. I bought it used and overall it is in very good condition except for the camber issue which is balding the inside of the tread while the outside is like new. The other three tires are in great shape and show no wear issues. I'm going to try and do the fix myself as I am in the boondocks of north eastern Nevada and finding someone reasonably close that could do it isn't an option. A hydraulic bottle jack and heavy chain will hopefully do the job plus using a vertical level reading from the good wheel/tire and bend the axel ever so slightly until it matches up. Any advice you can offer would be very much appreciated. Thanks!
Sorry to hear about your issues. Frustrating I know. I was never comfortable doing this adjustment on my own trailer, but to look at it you'd think it's easy. It kind of was after I got into it, but I am so novice about stuff like this, I'm afraid I can't offer advice especially when it comes to bending the axle. I'm hoping the very best of outcomes for you. Be careful.
Great video, I have the same issue but there is ware on the inside of the tire. Is this a different issue? I did the measurements and the good side was 38". The bad side was 37 3/8".....
@@brentginastravelingadventures Can you change a tire with the slides out? I'm on a camp site and can't really slide them in because me and the wife are staying in it.
That'd be nice is all our trailers had that. Thanks for sharing. I think that on the larger 5th wheels they need to have the rear wheel have some ability to turn with the rig because most axle issues are with the rear axle as I have seen it.
You'd think by now, frame-mounted disc brakes would be the norm. Axles still? Really? It would be simple to have front to back adjustments on frame mounts.
you ever measure the free load and loaded weight on the springs Eye to Eye? Seen the same thing from a weak or cracked spring. As they flatten out they change the placement on most axles.
No I haven't. I visually check for cracks prior to every trip carefully and visually for flattening. I know there's some movement flexibility with the eyes between the wheels by design so they'll adjust some depending on terrain, what the wheels are resting on, or load. In my case, 3 of the 4 wheels were just right so my thoughts made more sense than measuring pin to front wheel or bending the axle for example. The wear compared to towing for it's age made me feel that it wasn't adjusted properly at purchase. I will be more diligent before next trip. I'm open for more thoughts always so share if you think I am missing something.
Thanks for posting this Brent, I also have a 303RLS 2016 model and will be checking the alignment tomorrow. Have you checked the axle alignment to the fifth wheel pin also? I had one Westlake tire go bad with broken belts but haven't had any other problems besides the brake shoes coming from the factory completely coated in grease.
I did check it, sure. Bought a laser measure. I actually thought I put that in this video, but I guess I left out some of my approach. I have a video on that grease fix too! That ticked me off, but GD paid me back for all of it so that's good.
Hi...did it fix the problem? I have the same problem but my rear tire on that same side and is almost gone on the outside tread...3 year old Jayco 5th wheel trailer with less than 10k miles
Start watching at the 6:00 mark where I talk about it then at 9:00 mark for detailed explanation. There is a slit. You don't have to take the back off, only loosen the bolt enough to allow the cam to pull away from it's resting spot and turn.
I've only been about 50 miles on one trip so it's too early to tell. I also don't have any long trips planned this year so it may be a while. Still, that's how you fix the wear with these adjustments. I will update this as soon as I can ok.
Very familiar with it. Check it every day I'm on a trip on many levels from torque of lugnuts to monitoring tire pressure to checking for cracks in the sidewalls to tread depth, etc. I surely noticed the developing issue. It appears you may really meant to have asked another questions so please, just ask. No need to veil it.
Man, is this video timely. I, too, have a Reflection (337RLS) and Maxxis tires. I was out the other day at the storage facility and noticed the exact same thing. The front tire on the curb side was worn really badly on the outer edge. All other tires looked really good. I will go back out in a couple of days and adjust it like you did. How long of 4x4 post did you have? Thanks again for posting this.

@@dendemron3744 I can't remember. I know the measurements in the video are correct and that the cam is easy to tell if it moves the wheel forward or backward. I got it easily on the first try.
I didn't even notice it was there to fix issues. My dealership told me that couldn't adjust axle alignment and said to go to a "trailer" shop. After I found it, they told me it wasn't covered under warranty. Ticked me off pretty good. If you're interested, I believe I saw in my research that it can be added to rvs. Might want to check into costs of adding it. Take care John.
Watch this first, ua-cam.com/video/6HEqZoL7pu0/v-deo.html What this fellow did differently from you is he found and measured from a single straight point at the front of the trailer and then measured to the front of each front wheel. Once that was done he did the wheel to wheel.

Be careful.
I have the same issue with my trailer. Just curious if your remedy worked, I was thinking of doing the same thing.
Finally, someone that can use a wrench and not afeard to use it you not only save yourself the expense of tires but you'll save fuel too.
I try to when I can. About to begin a house remodel too. A person can save a lot if they have some confidence in their work just like you mention.
Great video, I have the same issue but there is ware on the inside of the tire. Is this a different issue?
I did the measurements and the good side was 38". The bad side was 37 3/8".....
Sounds like it could be the very same issue. If it is, then moving the one tire with tread issues 5/8", or so, should fix it I'd think.

Can you change a tire with the slides out? I'm on a camp site and can't really slide them in because me and the wife are staying in it.
@@MLS7012 I've not done it, but I would if I had to for sure.
@@brentginastravelingadventures I can't find "Frame Mounted Disc Brakes. Can you point me in the right direction?
@@usmcoth Google Mor/ryde IS for independent suspension.
you ever measure the free load and loaded weight on the springs Eye to Eye?
That ticked me off, but GD paid me back for all of it so that's good.
question, what Ton floor jack do you have 4 Ton ?
Camping world mechanically don’t know nothing, they are just there to sell products. It’s like they just hire anybody who has excellent sales skills.
Hi...did it fix the problem? I have the same problem but my rear tire on that same side and is almost gone on the outside tread...3 year old Jayco 5th wheel trailer with less than 10k miles
Yes, it did work. No more tread wear like I had.
How did you move the axle with that piece in there did you have to pull both yellow parts and and then push the axle back or forward?
Start watching at the 6:00 mark where I talk about it then at 9:00 mark for detailed explanation. There is a slit. You don't have to take the back off, only loosen the bolt enough to allow the cam to pull away from it's resting spot and turn.
Great information and video. I know this is about four months old, but one question, did you check the other side to make sure?
Oh yes, you gotta take the other side into account before making that adjustment.
So did it fix the tire wear?
I've only been about 50 miles on one trip so it's too early to tell. I also don't have any long trips planned this year so it may be a while. Still, that's how you fix the wear with these adjustments. I will update this as soon as I can ok.
you dealt with that tire how many times before you noticed...are you familiar with your trailer?
It was 27.73 inches long. Kidding. I couldn't help myself. I barely even remember using wood. Lol All in fun and I wish you the very best in taking care of it. I know you will. Be safe in every action you take. I always see what could happen before I make my moves. I'm the same guy responding from my other channel.
@@C3Voyage do you still have your reflection?
@@dendemron3744 Yes I do. We're going on a trip in August for a month or more.
@@C3Voyage Just to confirm....do you remember if you rotated the cam forward or backward and I assume you rotate the back cam the same as the front. Your video didn't say.
@@dendemron3744 I can't remember. I know the measurements in the video are correct and that the cam is easy to tell if it moves the wheel forward or backward. I got it easily on the first try.
Nice job, the dealers always say NO WARRANTY
I know! It ticks me off. We bought the extended warranty. What the heck was the point of that?
@@brentginastravelingadventures Never get extended warranty on an RV , they are all liars.
where do you put the jack?
It's in the video here: ua-cam.com/video/UpszC5w7uBg/v-deo.html
Awesome 👏
Wish I had that on my trailer can’t align anything all welded in one position
I didn't even notice it was there to fix issues. My dealership told me that couldn't adjust axle alignment and said to go to a "trailer" shop. After I found it, they told me it wasn't covered under warranty. Ticked me off pretty good. If you're interested, I believe I saw in my research that it can be added to rvs. Might want to check into costs of adding it. Take care John.
You can add it to your trailer, it will however raise your rig ~2 inches.
You can move your axles
Brent, are you on Face Book? I'd like to hear if this was the solution. I have the exact same wear on same tire on my 337.
Yes, it fixed it. :O)
Great video

how much grass was that guy cutting man!!?
Lol. He does like to mow.

It's amazing that all these trailer places didn't no how to fix this problem...lousey customer service...or those mechanics aren't that great
Good to know
Every 1 turn equals 1/4 inch.
Watch this first, ua-cam.com/video/6HEqZoL7pu0/v-deo.html
What this fellow did differently from you is he found and measured from a single straight point at the front of the trailer and then measured to the front of each front wheel. Once that was done he did the wheel to wheel.
You just have to call the axle manufacturer.
What do I call them for? Serious question.
Garbage trailers. Horribly engineered products.
Hey Juan. What's your preference? Do you travel?
Brent & Gina's RV Traveling Adventures we have a suspension system that fixes all of the issues on these trailers.
I got 4 trailers way too many godamn tires bent axles etc fucken nightmare
I try to think positively. You have 4 trailers! Awesome. I hope the axles get fixed inexpensively for you.
