I know for a fact that Melissa McCarthy is not his step mom but my god her acting was so convincing it started to feel real
You know for a fact?
What gave it away
@@alexisd6106 ?
Alexis D wow. Check yourself.
Yea she’s a great actress
@@Hummingbird-ns1fp it was a joke! Goodness gracious get a grip.
I love that this sketch doesn’t even really have “jokes” but it’s all Melissa’s delivery that makes it hilarious
This is exactly right! We need more of her and similar skits on SNL.
She's a treasure. She's gonna be remembered as one of the greatest at physical comedy.
Agree!
Better than UPS
"I always new what you were doing in your room but I never entered, because I respect you" one joke
Michael played the "embarrassed but trying not to let it show" guy perfectly.
Meh 🤷🏼♀️. ***Joke **** Yo! These emojis be racist! Where’s the emoji with the blonde Asian? Where’s the Caucasian man 👨 (👈 that or this is like ‘The Simpsons’ yellow) with the Afro?!!? (See NOW that is an example of truly playing the race card 😜).
@@godgod156good grief.
Aweeee my stepmom was a white lady. Never focused on her race or anything but this skit reminded me of her. Her name is Rosemary. She had been in my life every since I was like 10. I’m now 26. She passed this past May. She was a wonderful and loving woman. I miss and loved her dearly❤️ great skit
May she rest in peace ❤❤
Be blessed, ladybug.🖤
RIP Rosemary! ❤️
@@egold6542 Aw thank you🥺
@@dawntraci thank you so much
Warms my heart. I’m black and my stepmother is a red haired Irish woman. She was fiercely protective and loving. I pitied the fool who didn’t realize we were together and cut in between us on line at the store. Or didn’t assume we needed 3 tickets at the movie theater.
awww!! I love this!!
So sweet ❤️
Why three tickets?
linda jones oh! Ha. We means twins. We tend to speak in plurals. Occupational hazard
Aww, okay, I love this comment!!! 🥰
This was the sweetest thing I've seen on SNL in a long, long time.

“What is on your face? It’s ME! It’s ME!!” Best part of the entire skit..I just melt from the sweetness of it. 😂
It really is the best part.
I am going to start doing that to my son!! It’s so precious! ❤️
And then she kiss her own hand and said delicious. That is super adorable
that and beep bop bo 🤗🤗🤣🤣🤣
@@ayurangkuti1927 yes, I love that too! 😂❤️
Why isn't this a recurring segment. It's so perfect.
Absolutely perfect
It's recurring because we keep coming back to it
I think it remains perfect because it's _not_ a recurring skit. :^)
Maybe the uncomfortable silences 😂 sketch wasn’t that bad but I’m still cringing from the no sell crowd geez lol
Imagine everyone in the world had someone love them this much. No more crime.
Exactly!
Truth
i know its supposed to be sweet but if everyone is adored this much i think there will be more entitled people in this world. because his mom is constantly thinking hes perfect

True
When Michael goes "Ma!" because she embarrassed him... I almost forgot that they aren't really mother and son. LOL!
yesss
What do you mean that Melissa McCarthy is not really Michael Che's stepmom?!!
Pass.
me tooo!
Right?? Lol
I hope Melissa will return some time this year to reprise her role as Michael's stepmom. This is so pure and sweet
Rachael Root SNL: bring back Melissa as Michael’s mom!
Absolutely
“I don’t know but I can’t wait to laugh” that’s something that my mom would say🤣
My mother has attended comedy shows of mine and looks around at the people laughing like they must be crazy. She does not think I'm funny (but to be fair to myself, she doens't think anything is funny).
Like my son who keeps coming up with these really not funny puns and jokes but he's 7 so what do I do? I cackle like I'm at the Apollo.
I remember doing a presentation luncheon for this high school club that I was in and we got to bring in our parents to show what we do for the club. When I got up to talk about myself my mom was laughing at things that weren't even that funny and I knew she was just faking it because she barely knew English either but thinking back on it I've realized she was supporting the hell out of me as I was doing my presentation.
@@zammmerjammeras a comedian myself who has had my mom not laugh at most of my jokes I feel ya! Haha I don’t hold it against her, she told me she feels like the kinds of jokes I do moser her feel like I’m making fun of the way I was raised, instead of what I’m trying to do which is pay a humorous and respectful homage to story’s from yourh
As a black stepmom for two wonderful white children who are grown now I felt surprisingly seen and exposed during this- I have been going over all our time spent together and truly worried I might have been this overly enthusiastic step mom! 😅😳
I love the photo of your cat💜. My cat is also a beautiful, black cat.,🐾😽
You can never love children too much.
@@judithdooley6153 Well....
no such thing
Bless you if you were! Kids need love. And then to resent that love as teenagers while they are establishing their identity and autonomy. And then to come back to appreciating the love and being more well-adjusted as adults than if they didn't get it. (It's a journey)
Who clicked on Che’s stepmom even though you’ve already rewatched it a million times?
For my money one of the best bits on snl ever
You got me lol It's truly just so fun to watch
I've watched it a thousand times but it never gets stale.
Every single time.
Melissa McCarthy: 100% acting
Michael Che: 100% not acting
Colin Jost: Lex Luthor's joy discovering kryptonite
Thanks for recognizing us stepmoms, SNL. It’s a tough holiday for a lot of us. Melissa and the guys rocked the skit, and I was tearing up at the end ❤️
How TF is a made-up day a hard day for you?
Super Andy usually kids will go celebrate Mother’s Day with their biological mom. That can be difficult for stepmoms who consider themselves Mother’s to their step children. I don’t see why that’s such a hard concept to grasp.
Stepmoms seem to be hit or miss. The good ones deserve all the love and respect.
I'm a mom who shares mother's day with my kids' stepmom (they call her Steppy) and I couldn't be more grateful because if there's someone else out there who has your child's back, that's the best gift in the world.
@@lilychris811 steppy for step mum? that seems a bit mean

@@BettyBonkers Same.
It's been 2 years without a sequel. They need to do another of these. Hell, they should make a movie. One of my all time favorites.
Yes to a movie!
More than twice during this skit I asked myself if Melissa McCarthy really was his stepmother. lol That woman is brilliant!
I teared up a little
Me as well!💜
Believed it too even though I know
This is so goddamn wholesome

Honestly there was a moment I questioned it too lol
lol, I am still questioning it .
She's so fantastic.
She has it all: comedic timing, acting chops, beauty, and on and on. love Melissa!
Those kisses she plants on him. You know she's a real mom!
Melissa is adorable. This was so funny. I wish she was on the show more often.
She is just the greatest..
TovaShai...Melissa has hosted about 5 times
Roxx Bee really?... I don't remember her receiving an SNL jacket.
She does an incredible Sean Spicer 😀
Vegan Vendetta during the goodnights Steve Martin gave her one
ah.. the way she never breaks character..
chandrasekhar pavuluri some of them break character it seems just because some people like when they do. I just watched a shit sketch and Pete "broke" character...nothing was funny like at all
That's called rehearsal she rehearsed first
He;s an unfunny douche, Not sure if that is much of an excuse though
Her character gets to laugh whenever she wants
Melissa McCarthy kissing Michael Che's cheek, with "You've got something on your cheek, it's me, it's me!" just made my Mother's Day. Happy Mother's Day, everybody. Edit: sent this video to my stepson on Mother's Day.
AWWWWW
Awww how sweet
Lmbo! I bet your stepson loved it
Yeah I stealing that line 😁
Who was the genius who wrote this skit? Absolutely fantastic!
Probably Che
Probably Colin (head writer) and Che with Melissa.
this was prob funnier on screen than on paper. and that's because of melissa mccarthy. i love her when on SNL cos she gives it her all and really uplift the material
I think most of what Melissa did was improv. She’s so talented.
whoever it was knew the 2 demeanors quite well, and also could see the perfect fit, and the huge lasting impact. they were completely themselves, all three of them. someone seen that in advance. and nailed it, for everything it was for.
As a mom of two adopted Korean sons, I loved this skit. You truly forget this isn’t real and she’s not his stepmom. And at the end where she reads her Happy Mother’s Day prompt…I legit started to cry. Blood doesn’t make ppl family and a mom can never love her kids too much.
That ending had me crying 😭
I cried as well
Every year around Mother’s Day I rewatch this and still cry.
This was funny, the way Che and Colin played it really sold the whole bit
perfect.
Sean Cordi you’re a beta male SJW
Scrotum Leech "The sun's gettin' real low big guy."
Sean Cordi, I'm gonna steal that comeback.
Sean Cordi - I loved the part where Melissa 'nose-booped' Michael...and he just looked down, like a genuinely embarrassed son. ❤
The funniest part to me is that Melissa could have easily have been Collins mom but they chose her to be Che’s step mom 😂😂😂
Ikr 😂😂😂😂
I know, I loved that!
Lori Hanks lad calm down
@Lori Hanks They weren't saying shit against Melissa being able to be Che's stepmom, just that they appreciated how SNL didn't go for the obvious choice of Melissa being Jost's biological mom. If anything, they were appreciating how SNL was not going for the stereotypical white family card. Are you one of those people who go around LOOKING for things to be offended by? Is your life really that empty? Don't assume every little comment that mentions or alludes to race is racist. People like you are part of the problem, not the solution.
@@richardjohnson7379 seriously.

I'm older than she is and I wish she was my mom!
I’m 59 and love my awesome mom. I’d love Che’s mom as my auntie ❤️
I hadn't watched this clip in quite some time. It's always hilarious and sweet, but I focused on McCarthy's acting this time. Truly remarkable. Her physical movements, facial expressions, tone of voice - she totally sells that she's Che's stepmom within 30 seconds of appearing on screen. And then reading the card at the end? Man, she's good.
At the very end I was thinking "Aw, what a heartwarming thing for a son to--" and then I was like "Oh right she's not really his stepmom"
I'm such a sentimental wimp, I need to remove that weakness soon
Don't, I'm sure it's part of your charm
It's not you. It's Melissa.
Sarah, you just go caught up in a well executed skit with great actors and writers.
Sarah i think he may have done it for his real step mom. Imitation, flattery an all that
We need more wimp’s like you .😎👍🏽
I didn't realize just how adorable Che actually is until this skit. He still looks like that cute little boy on Melissa's shirt. Ugh, she reminded me of myself with my boys, right down to the little cheek kisses and tugging on ears.
Me too, and all their friends!
I'm pretty sure Melissa McCarthy is not Michael Che's step mom, but man, I teared up so hard when she went up to read the cue card and started getting teary eyed too...
Danielle Balouise pretty sure?!

I totally teared up at the end.
Why is it so beautiful lol?
Are you sure she's not his step mum, 'cause I totally could believe it. They played it so well.
Liv Learns Life same I have to idea
Michael and Collin are legitimately so adorable. I love how they react to Melissa being an embarrassingly loving mom, it’s so believable.
If you don’t love Melissa McCarthy you have no soul. She is a national treasure.
Yeah i used to be surprised but she's actually genuinely funny.
Yes she is & I have a huge crush on her
This is becoming an extremely overused, clichéd expression around these parts.
jadelizabethTX8 Amen
Literally!
Okay I need a full on movie with her as Michael's mom 😂😂
I think we all want that.
Yes!
this vid made me call my own stepmum. michael, just so you know, the amount of love that this sketch produces has legally made her your stepmother.
I occasionally rewatch this - it's so sweet.

Agreed
Yeah that is how I would feel too if I had kids. Anybody who loves them as much as I do would get l my appreciation.
Of course you’d be jealous. He didn’t run away and wipe his cheek off!
My kid's dad dated a woman for a few years over a decade ago she loved my kids so much they still don't on a regular basis and I can't begrudge it. She loves them purely even though they aren't together anymore and I will ALWAYS love her for it
Not just a step mother, your step wife 💕
"See, I told you he thinks you're so much funnier."
The image of Michael Che confiding to his step-mom that he thinks Colin doesn't find him funny enough is both heart-warming and hilarious to me.
Melissa is a slice of motherly perfection....OMG, did she just make me cry?
Melissa is mom shaped :). I want her to give me hugs.
This is so wholesome and so well written, and acted by Jost, Che, and Melissa that myself and I’m sure multiple people forgot melissa wasn’t his actual step mother.

Since this originally aired, I go back and watch this clip a few times a year, just to heal. If I'm having a rough time, I go back to this, and just watch Melissa be the most adorable fake-stepmom in the world, and it fixes everything.
Melissa Mac deserves an Emmy nomination as best guest appearance for that skit.
Melissa was just the perfect actor for the skit! She made it look so real, like it wasn’t all scripted😂

@@deeb8733 The Writers at Saturday Night Live* should have realized a long time ago that there is a Time and Place for showing the many different sides of Their Humor. If They want to show some Creative but Risqué Humor, but know that it will cross the line with the majority of TV Viewers, then the Writers and SNL* Cast should be given access to make those Skits and Mini Movies, then They can put them up on Their Website that will add a Warning/Parental Advisory Label at the beginning before it starts, and even alert Viewers of specific moments that They might find Offensive by using a special Countdown Timer, so that They will never have to wonder when the Questionable Moment in the Skit/Mini Movie will come along without any warning, and that will allow Viewers the option to turn Their TV/Computers, or just come back when the Scene is finally over. To make things even better, the Writers can ask for Viewer Feedback afterwards as to what They personally liked about what They had just seen, then the Writers/SNL* Performers will pay close attention and work on improvising Their Skits through Viewers' Suggestions, and show Their Revamped Sketches to a Live Test Audience first, so that the Writers and SNL* Performers can see what Live Studio Audiences and Viewers at Home will honestly think and feel, of what They created, and find out right then and there if the Scene(s) need to be Reworked to be even Funnier, like certain Live Improv Shows are known to do. Then the Writers and SNL* Performers can finally feel satisfied that They can make the Skit/Mini Movies that They want, make Them even Funnier than before by showing them to Live Test Audiences first, and through Their Redesigned Website now built to air the Sketches that were deemed too Risqué for Network TV without fear of either TV Network Censorship and Cancelation. Problems solved!
I'm just seeing this and I must say that I find it hard to believe that Melissa is NOT Che's step-mom! So convincing and so adorable! She's a gem. And Michael's facial expressions? Awesome! I loved the skit. Every child in the world deserves this kind of unconditional love.

Melissa should just be a cast member
I would love Melissa on the show, but she is big comedy star right now. It would be hard to mix it with 12 hour/day madness of SNL weeks.

She makes millions per film, I believe.
SNL cast members make no more than $15K and that's if they write for the show.
She does us well by appearing every once in a while.
IDiggPattyMayonnaise you are right. A regular SNL spot for her would really keep her comedy sword super sharp. I can only imagine how many characters she could come up with........
trevor sheppard you made my comment for me. you are right on.
That would be a waste of her talents, especially since the writing is average, at best for most shows
I know no one’s going to read this and that’s absolutely okay. Today my Stepmom, who’s been around since I was a kid, came to my place bc my Mom called her knowing that I needed medical assistance. I’m not the type to ask for help, and I try not to interfere in other folks’ lives…but every single time I’ve needed her, she’s been right here, no questions asked. Thank you Lisa, for having the biggest heart of anyone I’ve ever met. Thank you for having my back.

When Melissa kissed Michael, he almost seemed to break into tears. Touching!
I think he's actually trying not to laugh
And to think they didn’t let Melissa in when she auditioned. They missed a gem
She never auditioned! Fun fact. She's said it numerous times that the only time she's missed a show in Groundlings was when they were scouting.
This is the first time that I cry like a baby at the end of a Snl skit. Never thought that it would be possible. It is all about that incredible actress whom I didn't know of before this moment.

Alex Kime I miss Spicey

Definitely better than Schumer. She isn’t funny and generally drags everything she’s in down
Melissa at least wouldn’t steal her jokes.
I agree. I really can’t stand Schumer. Not only does she steal jokes she makes them worse somehow!! 🤬. Melissa is genuinely creative and funny. I notice there aren’t many SNL skit postings from last night to UA-cam. Way fewer than in weeks past. This was one of the best things about it
