That is beautiful black walnut and you made even more so. It is good that no lathes hurt in the process. Watching you and listening to you speak makes my day
That is gorgeous - so glad you saved it from the firewood pile. Looked up your 22 A Day bracelet - so sad the read about those who gave so much ending their lives. Thank you for your service.
Ther is something very comforting about a simple piece of turning. I wanted just to hold it and look at the grain. I think it is quite something it getes partially turned with just so little in the chuck. Then The interlude with work from others . Thank you for this posting.
Rod you turned a beautiful bowl with natural placements for chopsticks or spoon rest. The verses at the end of the video changes peoples lives forever and ever.
The bowl was GORGEOUS! You are an amazingly talented gentleman! I looked up both the verses, of course. And to both I say AMEN! Thank you for posting those, brother! God bless you, and Semper Fi, marine! Thank you, and your brother and sister marines, for protecting my SeaBee husband during his time in the service! ❤️
God Bless our SeaBees! Much respect to them. Thank you Ellen, you're always so kind. I appreciate it very much, and I'm happy you're a sister in Christ!
I love the shape of this bowl. And the wood is stunning. I appreciate how you can take something God has made and shape it into something so beautiful.
When you said you picked the wood up 14 years ago my first thought was oh back in the 90s. Then I realised it would be back when I met my wife. Now I'm thinking about my daughter that was born a few weeks back who just turned 2. Doesn't time make a mockery of us all! Timeless bowl there though sir, it's beautiful. I adore the look of black walnut and you did it justice.
Just watched your video, Wow, so nice with the brass! I can't leave a comment anywhere with this account (except here on my channel) because some spammers have attached themselves to all of my comments... So, my extra (red hat) account has done so. But thanks very much, Doug! Always appreciated
Really nice. The way You picked up this log and than worked on ot, remained me of how Jesus "picked up" St Paul, and made him to his wonderfull tool. Thank You. "Jesus, I Trust in You"
"Black Walnut" and "firewood" have no right appearing in the same sentence together! Glad you managed to save that beautiful resource and put it to best use. Gorgeous piece! 👍
Good morning, Marine! You made a good trade. I recently gifted a similar walnut bowl blank to a friend and now I will share this video with him as well. Beautiful bowl and enjoyed watching the process. I read your description and appreciate your testimony and verses. My rebirth date is October 1981. God bless + Semper Fi
Rod, Gorgeous Gorgeous bowl! There is something to say about black walnut. Even more to say about the verses you chose. 41 years ago those verses led me to my Lord and Savior. PTL!!! Be blessed. Hugs to Sue!
Love black walnet. Im lucky enough to have a steady supply of it. My land has a dozen or so huge trees that get trimmed every year. Love your bowl. Beautiful. Inspired me to go out and turn a live edge bowl. Thanks for sharing. Very beautiful bowl
I can see why it was a sad day Rod cause that's some beautiful wood!!! That's a very beautiful bowl Rod!! I love that!!!!! Enjoyed your video and I gave it a Thumbs Up
I love how the way you cut the log, made such an interesting pattern on the bowl. I appreciate that you included those verses, too. God bless you, Mr. Humphrey.
You did an incredible job on that bowl Rod. Walnut is a gorgeous wood! Thanks for sharing with us. Yes...the verses ARE good ones. Thanks for posting them also!
Great looking bowl. Black walnut is amazing. Thanks for the verses at the end of the video. Thanks for your videos - I appreciate them. Thanks for the scriptures you put on. The one in John is powerful. It makes some folks mad that it is so exclusive. It makes me glad because God didn’t have to provide anyway back to himself but He did.
Absolutely love the grain. Beautiful bowl! Watching made the coffee go down better this morning. I’ll look up the verses. Take care Brother and see ya soon.
Walnut’s my favorite wood to turn. Second is katalox, hard as nails, but turns like butter. Beautiful bowl. Love the sapwood highlights. Keep the faith, and keep on turning.
Black walnut for firewood? No way! Over here in Germany you would get high prices for this kind of wood for furniture, laminate and such. Good that you grabbed the opportunity. That wood grain is already awesome after you rounded it. Semper Fi.
Hi Rod, Amazing looking bowl and the contrast between the Heart and Sap woods is do fantastic. Great shape and a brilliant finish as well. I'm so glad that no lathes were hurt during the process. LOL. Take care Rod. Cheers, Huw
The figure in that specimen is stunning, and very appealing. It would have been a crying shame for it to be consumed as firewood. Glad you rescued it from the burn pile and made that bowl from it.
Yes, it had to be! I knew you had to use a chainsaw on a lathe... somehow... sort of. The end result is, as usual, stunning! Don't worry about the holes. They just add character.
Thanks for sharing your great wood turning projects, I learn something new with each one I watch. Living on a 5-acre natural bush property, we have tons of various Australian hardwoods in various stages-alive to dead, to choose from. Naturally I have large and small chainsaws, however, I recently bought an electric 20 Volt battery driven saw for use inside the shop, I am very impressed with its performance and battery life, I have used it outdoors to fell small trees etc. magic to just switch on/off without dislocating shoulder joints. Fantastic for indoor use. Regards from Tasmania.
Sounds like you're living in paradise there! I've got a nice little Stihl battery powered saw too, which I really like, but sometimes the growl and buzz of a gas powered saw is better for video making... point well taken though! Thanks very much, lovely to hear from Tasmania!
My Grandmother used to knit and she would have used the hole in that bowl to feed yarn through and left the ball in the bowl so it could run out what she needed without the ball becoming a mess. I think that would be a shame for such a beautiful piece. Semper Fi Brother.
Another masterpiece is born! I like your creativity with the way you slice your raw materials. I wouldn't have thought to cut the raw materials the way you did. I would have kept the "within the box" thinking, & simply sawn a round off that log, & started to shape it into a bowl. The way you prepared it made for some awesome characteristics to this piece!
I always enjoy watching you work Rod. You, and some of your peers here on UA-cam, have inspired me to begin turning, and crafting things in my own small workshop. I would like to thank you for that inspiration, and for your service to our great United States. I will send a few photos of my work, when I figure out how.
Keith, Thank you so much for your kind words! It's always very gratifying and humbling to hear that I've been a part of someone's inspiration. My email address is usually (but not always) in the video description. I'd love to see what you're making! I'm a bit behind in showing subscriber work in videos, but I'll get you in the lineup...just be sure to give permission in the email or I'll take it to mean you don't want me to show your work, and only want to show me, as is the case with many. Thanks again!
Excellent Rod, Love the way you left a couple patches of inner bark near the bottom.. Looks so rich. I was fortunate to obtain a couple smaller logs of Black Walnut from my Arborist. Smaller than yours but that wood is so beautiful... Love to see new vids from you.
haha! I'm always tempted to break out the resin... It's fun, but I just love natural wood so much that I often defer to the natural look. I do have some upcoming resin type projects though, to be honest 😊 Thanks very much!
Another awesome video, thank you for taking the time to show us your work! And I thank you 100 times for showing my wands, I'm honored and I can't thank you enough! Already excited for the next video!
Absolutely LOVE your testimony and verses at the end of the description! Love Jesus even more than this beautiful Black Walnut Bowl.
I can't help it: I love anything made from walnut. This one really gets me. 🤎
That is beautiful black walnut and you made even more so. It is good that no lathes hurt in the process. Watching you and listening to you speak makes my day

Oh, so true! Time is relentless and seems to be speeding up so much! Thanks very much!
Imperfection is perfection to a beautiful perspective.

Thank you 😊

That's a lovely Black Walnut Bowl.
Rod, absolutely brilliant as always - God bless and Semper Fi!!
Beautiful, Rod. I like the shape and the fact that you left the features from the pith. Take care.
Bill
Much appreciated as always, Bill!
Absolutely love the grain. Beautiful bowl! Watching made the coffee go down better this morning. I’ll look up the verses. Take care Brother and see ya soon.
Thank you, brother!
You have to love black walnut. We have it coming out of my ears here on the farm. Turn, sharpen, turn, sharpen, turn, sharpen... ;)
Yes! Very prevalent here too, thankfully!
I love turning walnut and your bowl and finish are just amazing.
Beautiful work 👏! Black walnut is one of my favorites. You did it great justice! Take care and GOD BLESS 🙏!
Walnut’s my favorite wood to turn. Second is katalox, hard as nails, but turns like butter. Beautiful bowl. Love the sapwood highlights. Keep the faith, and keep on turning.

Absolute gorgeous grain, and I love that you rescued fire wood.
I enjoy watching you and learning Thanks for sharing a part of your life with us all
Your brother
Richard
Walnut is such a beautiful wood! The grain is amazing! Thank you for sharing!
It also has that really nice hand crafted ‘not made in China’ look. Makes my day to see wood art of this quality.
Black walnut for firewood? No way! Over here in Germany you would get high prices for this kind of wood for furniture, laminate and such. Good that you grabbed the opportunity. That wood grain is already awesome after you rounded it. Semper Fi.
That’s a beautiful bowl right there! The holes add character! Love it! Love those verses as well 🙂 Have a good weekend!
Hi Rod, Amazing looking bowl and the contrast between the Heart and Sap woods is do fantastic. Great shape and a brilliant finish as well.
I'm so glad that no lathes were hurt during the process. LOL.
Take care Rod. Cheers, Huw

Nice piece of walnut. Nice bowl. Nice production Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay safe.
Thank you, Glen, I appreciate that!
The figure in that specimen is stunning, and very appealing. It would have been a crying shame for it to be consumed as firewood. Glad you rescued it from the burn pile and made that bowl from it.

Good morning Rod, fantastic job on that project. Hope you and your family are doing well.

Beautiful wood grain and bowl design. 💯♥️
Gorgeous piece of wood. Love the narration.

I love, love, love Black Walnut and this bowl is a perfect example of why. Amazing job, Rod! 💜

Lovely.Id never heard of black walnut here in UK. Glad to see it's beautiful colour and grain.
My Grandmother used to knit and she would have used the hole in that bowl to feed yarn through and left the ball in the bowl so it could run out what she needed without the ball becoming a mess. I think that would be a shame for such a beautiful piece. Semper Fi Brother.
Nice work as always. I have about 40,000.lbs of walnut in my barn. I turn many pieces of this species a month. Love it and maple.
The problem there is you are then just hollowing out & cutting end grain.
That natural hole means you accidentally made a yarn bowl! It’s beautiful.
haha! Nice thought 😊 Thank you!
Lovely bowl. Hard to go wrong with black walnut. Well done.
Thank you very much, Doug!
I always enjoy watching you work Rod. You, and some of your peers here on UA-cam, have inspired me to begin turning, and crafting things in my own small workshop. ok I figured it out, and your request to not have more work submitted has been duly noted.

Such a beautiful bowl I love your work simplify Marine
Rod you are a wood exhibitionist. Love your work you seem to bring out the best in wood.
Kind of you, Tom, thank you very much!
Absolutely beautiful bowl ♥️ 🇺🇸
Excellent Rod, Love the way you left a couple patches of inner bark near the bottom.. Looks so rich. I was fortunate to obtain a couple smaller logs of Black Walnut from my Arborist. Smaller than yours but that wood is so beautiful... Love to see new vids from you.

Amen. A wonderful piece of art
Really lovely. So glad you aren’t tempted to try and fill bits like so many are now.
haha! I'm always tempted to break out the resin... It's fun, but I just love natural wood so much that I often defer to the natural look. I do have some upcoming resin type projects though, to be honest 😊 Thanks very much!
The wood is beautiful; love the shape, nice job!
Very nice bowl. I turn a lot of Black Walnut mainly because I have quite a bit of it. Very common wood around here. Thanks for the video
