    With a dream of owning a Harley. These videos are entertaining and nice to watch, you have a natural talent at speaking. Enjoying the series......great to see this beast come back to life. I like how you are using the jack stands, at 65 years old, it's hard to work on a bike without a lift.

    • @tta850
      @tta850  3 місяці тому +6

      Thanks! I use what I have while I can, at 45 there are things I’m already struggling with and I watch my father (my mentor and idol) at 86 loose the physical ability to do the craft he spent his life mastering. The curse of life I suppose.

    There’s a ball detent and spring that locates and engages notches in a plate and drum as you shift. It seems the detent spring was hanging up and when you dumped the crap oil/water and rinsed it , it freed it up allowing you to get the rest of the gears. Bravo!.
    If it’s still sticky you can pour diesel or kerosene , mixed with auto trans fluid in and slosh it around a while. Drain it and repeat as needed, then put fresh oil in and ride it a while, then drain and fresh oil again.
    That will also flush any rust or sludge out of the bearings.

Chris currently has a 2024 CVO Road Glide ST and the plan is to ride out together (I think I’m gonna have more fun) and I’m shooting for my wife to ride the ‘96 Fatboy (which was the last bike her dad was riding before he passed away). It’s like we have to do this to honor the memories of both her dad and the original owner of this ‘84 Tour Glide (who is currently battling cancer). Points are easy to install, easy to maintain, and cheap to replace. Plus, you can keep a complete ignition system in your tool bag for a small fraction of the cost of an electronic system. Give it some thought.
    Diaphragm clutch is late '84, but that doesn't mean that your bike doesn't have early '84 features. My '84 Softail has features from both early and late production.

      I checked the engine oil and added a bit, because the original owner said it may have sumped, but checking the others never even crossed my mind. Live and learn 👍🏻

    You should fill the crank case with "cleaning fluid" let it sit for 24 hours,drain it, let it dry out and fill with fresh synthetic 20-50.

What I don't get is it's been stood 20 years and you didn't check to see if it had oil in the gear box. The damadge you could have done WTF

      GoPro mounted to what’s kinda like a necklace thing, I’ve been wanting to document some of the work I do on my bikes and this seems to work decent as I can quickly put it on, take it off, and use it in a handheld fashion. If you are interested I can try to find the brand it is.

    Just change all the fluids and run her how she is. After a couple of miles you will see what needs your attention.
    Don't touch that fuckin cam position sensor! On my old '84 FXRS Low Rider it looked exactly the same, I changed it for a new one and she wouldn't run properly anymore, no matter how I adjusted it. I've put the old molten looking piece of shit sensor back in and she ran like a charm.
    Just my two cents.
