Well sometimes victims feel like they can’t come forward, afraid of the rapist etc,but that predator raped another person after them, I’m not accusing them but they know from first hand what that person has done, do you think the first person he rape is also guilty of the other rapes?, I think they didn’t tell anything because they didn’t even believe the guy and their coworkers didn’t tell them, and even if they knew, what could they do, If they couldn’t confirm the allegations without the victims confirming the act, some of the victims are adults and they know who to speak with, the thing is everyone was afraid of their career, and lives that’s why some victims even stayed silent, is only the rapist fault.
So true. Shame shame on those who knew and did nothing are just as dangerous. Very fearful and/or self centeredness - how many people could have been spared the horrors of this man’s and his ilk. They sold themselves out by their silence.
Well, there was enough pressure so that the women who were getting assaulted didn't speak up. Why would it be up to men who have only heard hearsay to come forward about something for which they know no details nor whether it's actually true? Side note, I went to HR at a company I worked for because I felt like a woman there was being verbally abused by our boss (in a sexual manner) and the woman f-ing lost her job! I quit soon after, but it's not always as easy to help as you might think.
I think oftentimes men are ignorant to the facts because they are men and cannot imagine what it is like and how common it is.. how likely it is. they live in a fantasy world where they are told they do not have to think about those things.

I agree. Sadly that is most people. True heroes are few and far between. Unless there is a large number of credible, courageous people with substantial evidence banding together, it is nearly impossible to defeat the system.
For sure. Basics 101, sign # 1. Looking away when stating a lie. They both do it every time they state they didn't know it was going on. People commenting that this is their best acting? It is their worst. Not a deception expert, but I do know the first sign. Eyes look away. This is not only horrible acting, but a clue as to how lazy they are. Not knowing this first rule of truth or deception proves even though getting paid multi millions for this make believe art, they didn't even take a 5 minute crash course on how to not look like you're lying, while lying. Which is essentially what they do for a living. Lazy pedo's! Proly both in the trafficking buis as well!
Umm Ricky Gervais was paid for the 5th year to host the Golden Globes, sponsored by the same companies that he shames the actors for being paid by. He's a hypocrite himself.
I have an issue with anyone who says they’ve never heard of the casting couch. Sexual predation has always existed in Hollywood. If we know about it out here, then they knew about it inside.
That’s what I suspect too. However, there are some people who haven’t heard of it, or people who have heard of it but think it is just rumors, I think it applies to some people and not others in the industry. So they go and get a career there, it happens to them, and they are too ashamed to speak out.
Brad Pitt is the only real man in this story. He pulled Harvey aside when he was inappropriate with Mrs. Paltrow and told him he would kill him if he ever made her feel that way again. Clooney is good at playing neutral. That's why he is so successful in Hollywood, he is careful with his words. He knows he can't be totally honest. You know what Hollywood producers do to actors who are real authentic and brutally honest?
That’s not a fair statement. Think of the people in your circle. Then one day, a story hits the news about someone in that circle. Your shocked, and start thinking about all past interactions. Did you miss something? Did something happen right in front of you? Is he innocent? Is he guilty? Don’t criticize the people who didn’t hurt someone. But it where it belongs, on the predator.

Not necessarily. My ex husband is an actor & I heard stories but men like this are very good at silencing victims. You might not know exactly what I am talking about if you have never experienced that.
Damon gets creepier every year which is especially sad because he has children. He's foul mouthed and obviously sexist. Just about every interview he's done has varying degrees or undertones of sexism and arrogance. I used to like his films and was a fan until I saw so many interviews with the same undercurrents. What a shame. He is a good actor, in my opinion.

I’m sure they’ve never had a situation in their own life where they heard rumours and failed to act on someone who later turned out to be guilty, or even heard rumours which were later found to be completely unfounded. I’ve noticed these type of comments before about other high profile cases, such as Jimmy Saville, people even said in those threads that apparently the whole nation knew what he was up to back in the 80s (truth is the UK population had no clue, and finding someone “creepy” is not evidence).

Round Robin so you’re saying Harvey didn’t use his authority as the most powerful Hollywood producer at the time to; manipulate, intimidate, humiliate and then dismiss? Are you saying all those women were doing this for monetary gain? Are you suggesting that the times where he stood in front of people who worked for him, or whom he knew wanted to work for his company etc, and masturbated telling them to ‘just stand there and be quiet’ whilst he pleasures himself. Are you suggesting this isn’t a serial abuser? Just want to clarify that! I’m sure there are people in the world that use their body and sex to advance themselves in whatever capacity, but it would be detrimental to those that do that to then accuse their sexual partners of rape. It would literally be ‘bad for business’ if their business is sex for money and power 🤦🏻♀️
of course this interview ends up being a plug for their movie! There it is! That's what the interview really is about...gotta love it! Strahan kissing their weak asses as well! More coverup, right? I guess their is no honor or Godliness in anything anymore...they spent more time on their movie and families than they did on Weinstein...I timed it
I'm afraid I'm going to have to explain the obvious: In the 90s and the early oughts people were not as concerned about sexual assault as they should have been. Matt Damon knew about Gwyneth Paltrow but he was ignorant and immature and did not let himself believe "coming to an agreement" meant nothing. George Clooney thought Harvey Weinstein was lying about all the women he was with. George Clooney and Matt Damon were acting weird because they felt guilty for sidestepping uncomfortable conversations with Weinstein.
Yeah Matt Damon even had the NY times take out a reporter and piece they were covering about outing Harvey Weinstein’s actions. Not only did he ‘not know’ and side stepped but actively covered up and protected Weinstein and took out anyone who wanted to talk.
Harvey didn’t rape Paltrow. He was making moves on her and forcing her into an uncomfortable situation, which Brad Pitt confronted him on. Harvey telling Clooney he was having affairs with women isn’t Harvey telling Clooney he was raping women. Big difference there. Neither of them to blame for what Harvey was secretly doing and they didn’t know about.
Right! After just now watching this its so dirty they would shamelessly plug their own movie after discussing what Harvey did to these poor women. They're using other people's pain for their own gain.
It's called editing. For all we know it was an hour long interview and they talked about the movie at the begining and then they spent the majority of it swapping meatloaf recipes then asked some other wacky questions. It is the nature of the beast that actors have to do tons of interviews for their movies and if they were to just shut down questions about touchy subjects then everyone would wonder what they are trying to hide.
random recordings You are 100% right. I watched the full interview a while ago, and now all I can find is this cut-up version, while the other parts of the interview are under separate titles as if it were a different interview. See 'George Clooney Matt Damon discuss Suburbicon'. It was in this same interview as you can see there. This is a Shocking editorial trick. I want the full, unedited clip, but it seems impossible for me to find anymore.
Why is it always “what will you tell your daughters to do?” (Sadly this is a requirement of raising a girl) but How about we raise our sons not to treat women like this.
That kind of ideal world unfortunately doesn't exist. There's always gonna be unfit people for parenting having kids. And than these kind of (literal) psychopats or narcissist are made through life traumas. You just have to teach your kids to recognise that kind of vampires and to run away as fast as they can when they see their true colors.
Matt said he hopes his daughters will be “making the right decisions”, implying the victims didn’t do the right decisions... blaming victims all over again. I am sure he didn’t mean that way. Just makes me so upset how much the issue of abuse is misunderstood
I thought that was a bit jarring too, he’s really going to tell his daughters to “take responsibility for themselves” if they’re raped? But they “support victims” okayyyyyy
Although some people commenting are being aggressive, they are right in essence. These women were fine to use their looks to get Hollywood roles until it suited.
Very astute observation.None of Weinsteins victims made bad decisions,as Damon implies..This kind of victim blaming by Matt Damon is way off base. What a horrible statement to make with regard to all the suffering of scores of assault victims who never made any wrong choices, who were innocent.I hope Matt Damon's glib words never come back to haunt him if HIS daughter is raped.I will never watch another Damon film

All of the Liberals in the me-too movement have been silent about Harvey for 30 years. I don't feel sorry for any of them. To me Harvey Weinstein epitomizes Hollywood hypocrisy.
Most workplaces I've worked in have been ran by bullies. I think it's fair to draw the line and quit at serial abuser, but it's not so easy to quit just because you don't like bullying. High probability you'll just end up somewhere else full of bullies.
This is what money and power does to you. I've always thought Clooney is "too good to be true", but Matt Damon really seemed like a honestly good guy. Or I'm quite sure he was a good guy, but power corrupts. When you are that privileged for that long pretty much all people lose touch with reality. This interview could not be a more clear example. It's so sad. That's why I honestly don't want to be rich and powerful. I don't want to become a first-class jerk.
That's it. The temptation to comply to accept things you're not comfortable with would be huge. You only have to see what they have to do in some movies.
I don't believe for a minute these two didn't know. They are just as guilty as far as the public believes! So many actors are scrambling to save their own participation. The world is awake!
Damon actually said that the way to prevent this from happening to his daughters is by 'teaching them self-esteem and how to avoid situations like this." So basically he is saying that victims of sexual assault have low self-esteem and he is victim blaming.
Not necessarily someone not groomed for abuse or with more self esteem may react differently actually what did Harvey in was how strong and accomplished and outspoken the accusers were had they had no confidence they would be less likely to report it at all. It's like a self defense skill anyone can be attacked not all will fight back. Predators look for more vulnerable targets often too low self esteem is probably part of it they like trauma bonding but Weinstein did not care he thought he was King of Hollywood and any woman could be forced to submit as his unwilling concubine.
I'm not an actress and even I KNOW about the casting couch. I have heard SO MANY BAD things about Hollywood and the people in the industry. Hollywood is a BAD PLACE.

I like how they promote their movie at the end for a good portion of the interview, true motivation for doing this interview shining through. Hollywood is going to Hollywood.
"You have to give them a sense of self-esteem, because you're not going to be with them when they have to make a lot of these decisions. You're gonna have to trust that they're gonna make the right decisions and be able to protect themselves". Ah, so sexual assault happens because a woman made a bad decision. Women with low-self esteem make wrong decisions which get them raped. Thanks for clearing that up for us, Matt.
So women should take no responsibility for their well-being and safety, whatsoever. Is that what you call 'empowerment' ? Most assaults by men are against other men. And you know how men deal with that threat? By making smart decisions; avoiding situations that could lead to serious harm, training hours and hours a week for years, to be strong and capable of defending themselves, and maintaining awareness of their surroundings. In other words, taking FULL RESPONSIBILITY for their safety.
When did he say it happens because women make bad decisions? Lmao. The man’s obviously to blame, but sorry to break it to you, but women have to take some responsibility as well. They engage in the act with the promise of a role and a career. The man is to blame for abusing his position of power and putting them in that spot, but that doesn’t mean the woman should just do what he says and not defend herself. What happened to self-worth? What happened to this so called “empowerment?” What’s empowering about doing nothing to defend yourself? Make the right decisions and protect yourself, that’s what Matt’s saying.

@Python PogChamp It's easy to say what you would or wouldn't do if you haven't been in a similar situation. Unless you've been in position where whistle-blowing sexual harassment/assault meant losing your lucrative million-dollar career, and you made the right choice, why would I believe your integrity? Walk the walk first. Words of a stranger over the internet mean very little to me.
Well rape is usually done behind close doors. They never said they didn’t know he was a bully and an asshole but that is something completely different than rape. I mean being a mean ass jerk is worlds away from rape
It's all very well saying that 'change' needs to occur, or that victims need to feel 'comfortable' exposing monsters, but at the end of the day, the reason victims exist is most often because their abusers have the wealth, connections, or overall sheer power to be untouchable, for at least as long as it takes for them to tarnish or ruin someone's life. As long as bullies and sadists are represented amongst the powerful, this will always be a feature of reality.
No, it's never the victim's fault, but as a parent, you have to come out and talk clearly about this issue. The world is full of bullies and ppl with crooked values, and it's important as a parent to teach girls they're worthy, help them to think highly of themselves and make them understand it's safe to come out and talk about any related incident, that this actually happen very often and can come from anybody in any way, shape or form so they can learn to detect it , and all that means we must help'em to build up self steem, so in that particular point, he's right, and also you won't be present when any of those things could actually happen, even if you tried. I have a daughter, and I've suffered myself from harrassment at work before when i was younger, the thing is that after the shock, and i processed it, i never went on silent, i always stood up for myself and had my parents to support me, but it's not easy to overcome the feeling of wondering if it's not something you're just exagerating or overeacting about, just because the system and our culture has silently allowed that kind of behaviour for centuries. The world is changing and it's time to raise our voices if we have gone through this, even when it's subtle.
I’m 50 and have seen my fair share of life and I can assure you that the vast majority of people in my experience will stand up for someone......as long as it has no negative effect upon their personal circumstances. They might hate themselves for it but they won’t.
There is no "right decision" for a victim to make to stop a sexual assault. The burden is not on survivors for not being able to "protect themselves" and this directly facilitates shame on victims. Children should not be raised on the premise that they should stop a sexual assault from happening. They should instead be raised to not be predators.
It's true! But sometimes you Have to go that route when you aren't given any choices! It is Never a child Or a woman's fault! Who the hell in their right mind would think Children have any choice in the matter?
I actually respected both of these two until this interview ... lMatt Damon until this one in fact! The answer is to teach your daughters to have more respect for themselves? Um ... really?!? The answer is not to teach your kids (boys or girls) to not abuse others?
Most boys, contrary to your belief, are already pretty aware of the fact that abusing anyone is bad. There are a few monsters like Weinstein, who will exist, regardless of what we do to prevent them from existing. However most people are not like them. The only solution for such people is to bring them out to the light and expose their filth to the world. Till we do that, the best we can do to protect our daughters is to keep them from harm by teaching them to be around people who aren't spreading toxic bs. It isn't victim blaming, it's basic survival instinct
Matt..... women don’t get sexually assaulted because they have low self esteem..... let’s perhaps teach men not to be abusers instead of shifting responsibility to women
Exactly and they were probably in on a bunch of those but much harder for those victims to have everyone believe that these 2 handsome Leading Men preyed upon them and it wasn't consensual.
The comments here are so refreshing; it's nice for once to see people not defending someone just cause they're actors. As a CSA, the people who knew but didn't do anything were just as guilty in my eyes.
How does this clip go from talking about something SO dark to quickly switching to a fun and bubbly narrative of "Matt and George are still buddies after sooo many years! Yay!!" FFS, give this issue the time and respect it deserves! It's not a filler-piece to make you feel like you've appropriately covered the news!
I thought this was the height of absurdity too. The superficialness of this whole thing! And then they end on a note of promoting a movie to demonize and guilt white folks. Oh splendid. What would society ever do without fine people like these “entertaining” us??!
Matt is completely off point when he takes about "trusting his daughters to makethe right decisions".The problem is -so many decisions are made FOR girls and women, and to a lesser degree boys and men. There is not right decision to be made when groped in public or a business meeting, there is no decision to be made when drugged and raped.Such a small percentage of assaults can be prevented by being "smart" as they happen in the context of our every day interactions, which we cannot avoid unless we lock ourselves into our homes, and hope there'll be no home invasion. And what about earning a living? building a network? existing in this society, successful in the social and economic sense?
Yeah I'm sure you're such an upright, moral person that you would change careers entirely based on some rumors about your company's owner. Fuckin' moral circlejerk in the comments by a bunch of keyboard warriors and hypocrites.
Oh my gosh, Matt Damon lost me when he said that he was going to teach his daughters self esteem so they can protect themselves from this. That is victim shaming - blaming. So you are saying that women or men who are violated in this manner automatically have low self esteem and are making the choice to be victimized? If the vicitms really made these choices to do these things regardless of their level of self esteem, they would have been consenting individuals - not assault vicitims. And then it is laying it at the potential victim's hands to prevent assault, which is ludicrous. This mindset needs to change for this to change.
I felt the same way. Men like him don't understand that even if you teach your daughters, the world is full of "Weinstien", it's very likely most women has to put up with that crap no matter where they go. How about teaching your sons to respect women when she says no. Not to rape them if they reject you. So typical, why can't women have normal and secure work place?
Well, your interpretation of what he said is not mine. Our daughters need to be protected by their own self esteem and their ability to defend themselves, verbally and physically, because sometimes there is no-one else there to help them. They have to be aware and take all measures possible to stay safe. This is not victim blaming. This is an attempt to help them to not become victims.
@@graceygrumble yes true. lets validate emotions but we all know when we are too emotional we don't think rational for me matt is just being a smart and a good man that sometimes we really need to protect ourselves its not victim blaming its just j a way of protecting future women and I think too that we women needs to accept that its not our 100% fault but at least accept the fact that it really did happen because some are so scared not to fightback but of what I understand with matt I guess it warns him how not to encounter it in the future.Because if we really a pro woman we must use our voice now to remind woman to be strong and do not make things personal. We need to accept that people do have different point of view and do not directly point out some interpretation that this statement is meant to harm or hurt women feelings its just how he think he can prevent bad things to happen.
As the mother of 2 daughters, Matt's right. It's not victim blaming... it's teaching self-protection. As a parent we can't control who or what our children may have to confront as teenagers & adults.. but we can teach them survival skills to save them when we can't be there.

Now that we know this was legitimately true, I’m disgusted with myself for not taking it seriously and not doing my due diligence to try to advocate for my fellow actors. These women were treated horribly and I didn’t do anything to stop it. I’m beyond apologetic that I didn’t do the right thing for my peers for several years, that’s why I’m donating every penny I made in every single Harvey Weinstein produced film I was in, to help fund and protect all women against sexual predatory behavior in the work place. Not just Hollywood but to ALL causes that fight against this kind of behavior that we helped perpetrate by not speaking out on behalf of those we care about.” But NOPE! They decided to slip right into light hearted humor in order to promote their craptastic movie. I’m so happy to know it completely bombed at the box office. Well deserved karma.
Seriously just say “I knew about his behaviour but he had so much power and I was complicit in his power, i now know it was wrong and we all make mistakes but it is exposed and this should never happen again, Hollywood needs to look at itself, we need to call out abuse as soon as we see it!”

Bingo. Summed it up perfect
Harvey didn’t rape Paltrow. He was making moves on her and forcing her into an uncomfortable situation, which Brad Pitt confronted him on.
Harvey telling Clooney he was having affairs with women isn’t Harvey telling Clooney he was raping women. Big difference there.

Despite I love both of them so much, but I believe that they knew what Harvey was doing at the time and yet they kept silence... which technically makes them indirectly involved, in one way or another, in making Weinstein's sexual crimes last longer.
Brad Pitt, according to Gwyneth Paltrow, is one of the few actors who stood up against Harvey and was really prepared on going far in confrontation with him
Indirectly???? They do this video admitting he was a bully. Guenith Paltrow knows their mutual friend Brad Pitt. I'm certain in those social circles they know details of harassment from peers. These two are part of the problem. NO EXCUSE
For the triumph of evil it is necessary for good men to do nothing. They did nothing but what cld they do? If they had showed integrity then they wouldn't have had a career. That was their choice but, being in showbiz, they wanted it all.

By making smart decisions;
avoiding situations that could lead to serious harm,
training hours and hours a week for years, to be strong and capable of defending themselves, and maintaining awareness of their surroundings.

Liars, they knew it.
It's like this in families too.
There are always sympathizers around abuse and there are always a silent majority.
The cruelest truth in the world.
So.....it’s the victims fault? Raise your daughters with self esteem? Wow.....men just don’t get it.

They knew and they are protecting themselves and their own interests. Makes me sick.
@mimi So what would you call protecting and covering up widespread and rampant sexual abuse?
There is no "right decision" for a victim to make to stop a sexual assault. The burden is not on survivors for not being able to "protect themselves" and this directly facilitates shame on victims. Children should not be raised on the premise that they should stop a sexual assault from happening. They should instead be raised to not be predators.
It's true! But sometimes you Have to go that route when you aren't given any choices! It is Never a child Or a woman's fault! Who the hell in their right mind would think Children have any choice in the matter?

Most boys, contrary to your belief, are already pretty aware of the fact that abusing anyone is bad.
There are a few monsters like Weinstein, who will exist, regardless of what we do to prevent them from existing. However most people are not like them.
The only solution for such people is to bring them out to the light and expose their filth to the world.
Till we do that, the best we can do to protect our daughters is to keep them from harm by teaching them to be around people who aren't spreading toxic bs.

Matt is completely off point when he takes about "trusting his daughters to makethe right decisions".The problem is -so many decisions are made FOR girls and women, and to a lesser degree boys and men.
Preach!
