She was also probably suffering from PTSD after the whole ordeal of almost dying, knowing there were other vampires out there that wanted her dead and the ONLY people who knew and could protect her, abandoned her without a word. Id curl up and become a shell of myself too. Stephanie Myer just isn't a good enough writer to treat the PTSD aspect with the care and respect it deserves, so she basically ignores that her main character should be traumatized. But in my heart bella is more complex and going through more than a breakup.

So instead of Jacob having in the back of his mind that the child he is looking at he is going to mate with then she is of legal age, he could get those feelings when she is of legal age.
And also, she didnt have to do that to forge a bond between the vampires and werewolves because both sides already has certain ties with Bella. Bella could have been the glue that bonds both sides together and they could have joined forces for the greater good of an innocent child than Jacob imprinting on a literal baby.
