My 2005 Freestyle had this problem. Googling to get info on the problem was not getting me anywhere! Then I saw your video listed at the top of the page.Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! The exact malfunction and fix. I purchased the Motorcraft part on Amazon and it works like a charm. Just for reference, since I saw some comments on the part number, the number on the old module is so old it won't even break in the Ford parts catalog. So using the p/n on the package you showed on the video, I worked my way to the right place in the catalog just to verify I was ordering the correct thing. And yes, the left bolt took me an hour to remove, plus a trip to the store to get a wrench narrow enough to get at it. The new resistor is designed with much more clearance to get at both bolts much more easily. Bottom line, your video was a God send.
Thank you for this video!!! Part arrived today, I swapped it out (that screw closest to center console is a PAIN to get out! And I do have a tiny 8mm ratcheting wrench. Can’t imagine it working with any other tool in our case), and issue is resolved. Thank you also for keeping your video short and easy to follow. Appreciate the lack of superfluous babble. My only regret was not replacing this BEFORE I was talked into replacing the ac controller on dash by the mechanic spouse, but that’s a discussion for another day.
Great video, fixed the problem right away! Make sure you get the resistor with the 90 degree turn as the straight ones Motorcraft sells won't fit the mounting brackets
Thanks for the clear tutorial! For anyone watching definitely do not go with anything other than motorcraft. Buy once cry once, the eBay ones do not work
Well, it looks like it is $76 dollars now. Looks easy enough, but I would probably get the cheaper part--if it is like a fan blower motor in my corolla, a cheap part will last a couple of years. Thank you so much for sharing this. My friend has a 2007 freestyle he is about to trade, but he was delighted that he can turn the annoying fan off.
@@toddsadowski5074 I got the motorcraft part and it fixed it right away! My issue was actually a bit more advanced than this. It started out the same as yours where it wouldn't respond to the fan speed control or the on off button, then it got worse and the front fans stopped working completely, and only the rear fans worked. I have an 06 and it was a slightly different model of the part, which I didn't realize, so I was lucky this one worked perfectly because I ordered it without looking first. Extremely difficult to take out the left bolt (mine was bolts not screws), that alone took 95% of the time, about 20 minutes for one bolt, turning it 1/8 turn at a time with pliers lol. Anyway, thanks so much for this video.
What are the aluminum bars on AC blower motor resistor. Are they important? 2007 ford freestyle. All auto stores just have 1 plastic piece coming out the top
My hvac on my 2006 started going loco yesterday. This morning all was good but by the time I drove home it decided to go fast, slow, off, and nothing i pressed on the screen work. Got home and stopped all together. No light no fan nothing on the hvac. I am assuming it is this part unless someone says otherwise.
I bought a resistor from a local auto store. It worked right for a week or so and now it is back to doing whatever it wants. Should I just return it and buy this one off of Amazon? Or ask for a new one at the place I got my new resistor at.
@@toddsadowski5074 No, aftermarket from O'Reilly's paid $80, comes with lifetime warranty. Mine is a 2005 Ford five hundred, my heater wasn't working at all, now it is but can't control the speeds of the blower.,,😪🙃
When you increase the temperature on the display, the system will heat up the air blowing out of the vents. If you turn down the temperature, the air will only be as cool as the ambient temperature outside. If you want AC then you push the AC button and it will cool the air down below the ambient temperature outside of the vehicle

My question is on the resistor. Noticing the old resistor had 5 metal plates and the new Motorcraft resistor only have 4 metal plates. Does that make a different on the function ? My story is that, my front fan on my Freestyle with auto A/C was not working. So I picked up a resistor from a local auto parts store because I could pick one up right a way. After I took out the old resistor I noticed that it had one more metal plate than the new one. Now the new after market resistor makes the fan stops randomly and starts again(just as you mentioned). Now I am afraid of my next decision. All of the resistors online regardless of brands have only 4 metal plate. Should I go to the dealer to see if they have a 5 plated resistor? Should I get one on Ebay/Amazon, like you, a Motorcraft product with 4 plated resistor? Because I am afraid the 4 plated resistor even for Motorcraft may not work correctly.
I am not a mechanic but I can tell you I tried 2 aftermarket resistors and neither one worked properly. I would order the Motorcraft part. I believe the 4 fin is simply an updated design but I am not sure. All I know is the Motorcraft part worked and the others did not. Plug your part number into ebay or Amazon and see what comes up.

How in the world did you get the screws loosened? There's no space to use a wrench or anything to loosen them
