For the USA, Dollar Tree has a ton of amazing glass containers in so many various sizes and shapes for your plants. While you’re there grab some of the bare Xmas wreaths and you can use those for styling a trellis, as they have shapes like stars etc. In the craft section they have loads of wooden rings in various sizes. I use my glue gun to attach the rings together in fun patterns and use those as my trellises. They have tons of cable/nylon rope that works amazing to use for hanging pots. Their food container section now has glassware that works uh maxing for limited space, smaller propagation containers. The container section has some iffy containers that may work, but will def work great for storing your planting medium. The dinnerware section has a LOT of fun glasses and bowls you can use as closed containers for planting. I think seasonal section or $5+ section has these metal hanging lanterns with led lights inside. Pop the light out and spray the inside down with some lacquer, and you can now use it to plant in. It’s glass on all sides so it’ll get light easily and air plants, slow succulents etc will grow beautifully in them. Thrift stores, keep an eye out for aquariums and fish bowls. They work so freaking amazing for planted propagation stations, small terrariums etc. Many US thrift stores will have either a place for plant pots or pottery. While looking, keep an open mind about ways to use what you see there in ways they weren’t intended. I’m using lots of vintage containers for sugar, flour, beer steins etc. Vintage mixing bowls made of wood are great hanging pots, just weather treat it so the water won’t ruin it. Furniture section look for glass displays, glass cabinets, and if you’re up for a challenge, the old tvs from the 80s that are in the wooden cabinets. Using a few YT tutorials, you now have your own indoor ikea mock greenhouse. Hope these ideas help. Phoenix AZ, Seattle, LA and I think San Diego all have Daiso. I get really cute and sturdy smaller decorative planting pots. The non lacquered ones work very similar to terracotta pots and help minimize overwatering and have drainage holes. Any ceramic containers that don’t have holes, place masking tape in an X shape on the bottom and submerge them underwater. Now use a hammer and nail to make a hole in the bottom of the container while it’s underwater. It will not shatter, the tape helps hold the loose ceramic shards. I recommend just the one hole, as the surface is weakened and has a high chance to break. You can use a drill in this situation but i find the one hole works well, and you can use a hand drill to expand the size of the hole. For glass you will need a special drill bit for glass and make sure you get some fine textured sandpaper to use on the new hole so it can smooth it out and prevent accidental cuts. I bought vases for some of my taller plants and now I crochet sleeves for the vases to keep the roots and reservoirs out of the light so the algae does not grow. I grow everything in semi hydro. I have used almost all of my old/scrap yarns so I am not only having fun crochetting but also make space as I am using the yarns and the plants look cool in vases dressed in colourful pyjamas 😁
Would love a DIY video of your pot decorating ideas..❤ Another idea I’ve used,it picked up bar stools from council hard rubbish and take the legs of and buy a cheap round wooden chopping board and screw the legs on,really good for tall trailing plants.or even screwing in wooden legs underneath baskets that really elevates the plant and the one of a kind basket.❤
My favorite plant decor go-to is instead of buying trays and saucers at plant stores that match pots, I check out thrift shops for old plates. Not only are they usually cheaper, sometimes they look a lot nicer. Sometimes you can find a matching set to tie a few plants together. White, black, terra cotta, or a solid color pot with a patterned plate underneath adds to your decor. With the lip on plates being wider, I can easily display little statuary or pretty rocks on them. I found a stack of coffee cup saucers for a $1 a piece at a thrift store, and put them under some of my smaller plants, they were the perfect size just like a regular pot saucer. A larger plate with a patterned, scalloped border made a great display for the small aloe I use as a center piece on my dinner table.
Blown away by your creativity. Those stools are everything! I’ve done some pot painting myself, and also teach a pot-painting class at a local plant shop! But this has inspired me to try some other things too! Would love to see a full tour of all your pots ❤❤❤
I too all about DIY anything using what I already have. I made plant stands using two large planter pots on top each other,then used hide rope and yes all done with glue gun😀 your planters look amazing especially Ross's little one's😁

Great video as always- thank you. My favourite place to find items is the local amenity tip. Most of them now have a shed where they sell the best bits that others have thrown away. You pick up loads of items for a few pounds.
Love these!!! Over the years I have definitely did several DIYs myself for my plants and in fact some of them are my most asked about from my collection! 🫶🏼😂 My sister actually works for a florist plant shop and they actually also use diy hacks for plants aswell until they are ready to sell out in a gift basket or bouquet and things! Some of my most favorite is the wire wreath frames you can get at the dollar store can be used for Hoya trellis and all kinds of things or wrapped to make a base for a hanging pot to sit on aswell! Use it as 1 large or wire cut and break into 3 separate trellis! For the base stakes I use plastic chip sticks or support stakes and some good zip ties! They are a lot more sturdy for bigger leaf Hoyas and keeps them from bowing over like other trellises do! Thrift stores and yard sales are my favorite to second hand diy things aswell and get cheap pots! 🫶🏼😊 Awesome video!!!!!
I loved this. I go thrifting and get things that are unusual and use them as pots. I have painted pots, too, but you've given me a few more ideas to try. Yes, I want a pot video. I love the little Rossters. Ross is truly talented or .maybe just weird. Either way, I love his pot work.
I eat a lot of Greek yogurt. The plastic container is the perfect size for a 4” pot to go into. I usually spray them white to cover the bonded labeling, but I’ve also wrapped a couple in macrame cord. I also tend to use vintage kitchenware as cache pots and saucers. Nobody wants chinaware anymore, but it makes great plantware. Pyrex and Corningware are great items to use.

I saw someone on YT mix some paint with bi-carb and then paint it on to a nursery pot/container and it gives the pot a textured look,kind of like cement look.You got some great ideas.💚🌿🪴

Even the ugliest pot in the thriftstore, can be easily transformed into a lovely one with a lick of paint. Done it lots of times and it really works great!
I love your ideas. I use glass beakers and flasks from my Universitys lab for propagations, i really love the look of them in between 'regular' drinking glasses or vases. And i crochet some pot covers to pull over pots that didn't fit my colour scheme at that time. I just used tutorials on crochet baskets and made them slightly smaler than the pot, so they fit tightly like some kind of sock 😅 the advantage is that you can remove them once you want the original colours back! It should also work for different types of glasses, and after some practice you can add different patterns or small gaps to take a look at the roots :)

Each time I buy a plant I budget in a pretty pot and clear pot and use the pretty pot as a sleeve. It helps. I also thrift pretty pots and accessories. I agree dont go broke.

Personally I thrift absolutely everything regarding plants. All plants are second hand or self propogated and all planters, shelves, pots etc are thrifted. This has been a fun challenge for myself to keep things inexpensive and relatively sustainable!

You are super creative Claire. Would you please tell me what size of Macrame you buy and use? I was looking on Amazon and they have many sizes. From 3mm up to 8mm that I’ve found so far. I’d like a big and chunky one. But I’m sure there is a smaller size that would be very helpful too. Also, would you show us how to make tassels? Maybe I’ll ahead of what you might talk about in the remainder of this video. Also I’d love for you to show us how you made the Pom, Pom I see handing from one of yours. That would be super helpful too me. I appreciate all of your ideas and time putting it together. Because it has been very inspiring to me and what I can do to make things to turn my ugly plastic pots into a nice way to display my plants. And I will 100% look for wholesale FLorsit shops. Have you ever thought about keeping live aquarium plants?? Look up the Walstad method It’s all about filtrating the water using the plants so you don’t need a filter on your tank I have a 2 gallon filterless bowl aquarium🌱🦐🐠💙🔥
Have you ever tried Homesense and or TK Maxx. Both have a large variety of plant pots, in a range of sizes. Prices are very reasonable and they always have a reduced section, I have snapped up many great bargains. Love your content ❤Hope you and Ross have an illness free Christmas this year 😊
I've tried a few times to do the yarn around the pots look but I think I messed up because I used yarn and not macrame or the other material you mentioned lol I used a fluffy pretty blue yarn and it did not go well with the hot glue gun lol I'm going to get some macrame and try again because I LOVE that look 💚
Idea i have is for the planter with a realy small opening maby make it unto a ufo planter like cut the wide botton then put a nurser pot in it and the plant a plant it it ❤❤❤
I really enjoyed the video but I wanted to clarify something. Plant pots that are handmade or of good quality are expensive because they are either the labour of an independent potter or made with good products and fair wages in a smaller scale than say IKEA pots for example. I know when you have many plants it's impossible to only buy special pots but in general they are more expensive for a reason, and a good one at that.
You should learn how to crochet! I think anyone should, but especially planty people who value calm and crafty hobbies. I'm a fiber artist for years and I love making artpieces combining plants and yarn/textiles

Have you ever thought about keeping live aquarium plants?? Look up the Walstad method It’s all about filtrating the water using the plants so you don’t need a filter on your tank I have a 2 gallon filterless bowl aquarium🌱🦐🐠💙🔥
Have you ever tried Homesense and or TK Maxx. Both have a large variety of plant pots, in a range of sizes. Prices are very reasonable and they always have a reduced section, I have snapped up many great bargains. Love your content ❤Hope you and Ross have an illness free Christmas this year 😊

I've tried a few times to do the yarn around the pots look but I think I messed up because I used yarn and not macrame or the other material you mentioned lol I used a fluffy pretty blue yarn and it did not go well with the hot glue gun lol I'm going to get some macrame and try again because I LOVE that look 💚

I really enjoyed the video but I wanted to clarify something. Plant pots that are handmade or of good quality are expensive because they are either the labour of an independent potter or made with good products and fair wages in a smaller scale than say IKEA pots for example. I know when you have many plants it's impossible to only buy special pots but in general they are more expensive for a reason, and a good one at that.
