Ukraine's Kursk Invasion Stalls as Russian Forces Advance Towards Pokrovsk in Donbas | Gen GD Bakshi

  • The summer months have seen significant developments in the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Ukraine launched a surprise offensive on August 6, advancing into Russia’s Kursk region with the intent of forcing a redeployment of Russian troops from the Donetsk front. Despite initially catching Moscow off guard, the Ukrainian incursion has not achieved its strategic objective. Russian forces continue their relentless advance in the Donbas region, specifically towards Pokrovsk, a crucial logistical hub for Ukrainian defenses.
In this video, Maj Gen GD Bakshi (Retd) sheds light on Ukraine's advance in Kursk and how it has slowed significantly, failing to draw Russian forces away from their offensive in Donbas. Russian President Vladimir Putin has dismissed the Ukrainian attack as ineffective, stating that it did not disrupt Russia’s operations in Donetsk. The British Ministry of Defence warns that the fall of Pokrovsk would complicate Ukraine's supply lines and weaken its defensive capabilities in the region.
As Russian troops close in on Pokrovsk, less than 10 kilometers away, the battle for control of this strategic town is expected to intensify. The loss of Pokrovsk would be a significant setback for Ukraine, impacting its ability to maintain a robust defense in the Donbas region.

12:25 our lines of defense in the Kursk region were and are, the Ukrainians did not reach them at all. Ukrainians crossed the state border and fought with the border guards. You are a military man and you know that the main army is never located on the state border line, but is located further from the borders. Which helped lure the elite NATO forces of the PMCs of Ukraine to a part of the Kursk region, where there is a small population and a flat landscape. The aviation and artillery of Russia did a good job - 11,000 piglets, only in this area for 30 days. It is more convenient to work here than to lure them out of the NATO territories fortified over 10 years in densely populated Donetsk and Luhansk regions with industrial cities and mines. We Russians are not prone to emotional PR, the main thing for us is to achieve our goals while optimizing costs and human losses on our part. We are not really interested in the opinion of the world community, because other countries have not faced the full force of NATO economically, militarily, technologically and informationally, and they cannot even fully realize HOW our Russia is destroying NATO by devouring it piece by piece.

    Mr Bakshi
    Big respect from me
I am Macedonian, and Macedonia was part of Yugoslavia .
When I was child, I remember watching very friendly relationship between Mr Nehru and Tito. And since then I always had soft spot for Indian people, and always liked them.
A country who has great history and culture.
I will not comment about the front lines, but I want to share something with your followers, something only a few people know.
    - In 2013 , 3 western big energy companies wanted to buy the ukrainian Naftagas.
    Naftagas is ukrainian energy company.
So those 3 companies( one British shell, and 2 american), wanted to invest more than 20 billions of dollars.
The reason for that- Ukraine has the biggest gas deposits in Europe, many trillions of dollars worth.
But, Yanukovic didn't want to sell.
    Remember, that happened in 2013.
We all know what happened in 2014 at Maidan square in Kiev.
When some chechen snipe_r men were shoo_ ting at the civilians and policemen from Ukraina hotel room. Around 100 people lost lives, of whom 17 policeman.
Some western journalists were in the hotel, and knew what is happening, but kept quiet about it.
The western politicians and weasel media were quick to accuse the police as guilty party.
    That is another story.
    But, there was a problem.
Problem for the 3 western corporate energy companies.
Those gas deposits ( also oil deposits, and various minerals)
Are based in Donbas area, and around Crimea cost.
So, Mr Bakshi, the rest is ONGOING history.
    All the best

That's a good point. The resources in Ukraine were part of the plan but just limited to businessmen's interests.
The main point is this, the West strongly hold to their hegemony of petrol dollar. Every leader who tried to find an alternative option was murdered. Col. Gaddafi for example, tried to drop the dollar, and the rest was history.
BRICS emerged with Russia taking the lead, and this was a huge challenge, but the West had no option other than to kill Putin, destroy Russia. Otherwise, it collapses the petrol dollar hegemony and creates a multipolar world, as opposed to the One World Order or NWO the West are aiming to establish.

  • @Crudebug
    @Crudebug 3 дні тому +21

    The whole premise is off
It was not a total surprise to Russia. A month earlier local officials & even Duma reps were openly wondering why Putin was ignoring the build-up, but then shrugged it off saying the top leadership knew best.
What surprised and annoyed Putin & the Russian Security council was the breadth & depth of the incursion as well as the number of troops committed to the incursion.
The plan was to allow a limited incursion to stretch the depleted troopa defending Pokorovsk.
Additionally, this gambit backfired politically on Putin, as most Russians (like the rest of the world) who thought the Kremin was caught unaware, saw Putin as weak and unprepared, and worse dreaded a new mobilization to retake Kursk, when they saw Russia maintain its numbers inside Ukraine.
So dear General, much as I respect most of your analysis, I have to say you were off on this one.
Russia was NOT.taken by surprise. However the decision to allow Kiev to take Russian territory aided its push towards Pokorvsk (important logistics hub) but was a PR disaster with poor optics that made Putin & his Security Council look weak & vulnerable, apart from giving Kiev a boost in its pleas for weapons & lifting restrictions on the ones it has been gifted.
PS: I am posting from Russia & this comment is based on reliable info on my local contacts.

These tactical insights are very very valuable and right on target.
As a USMC operations officer with both urban and desert warfare experience and training I could not agree with you more.
As the Russians experience ECW over-watch it requires that the ground units move forward in a very conventional door to door manner. It is old school and expensive but the only other country that does this style of warfare as a primary approach is China. The USA fights over the horizon and far away so we can not typically mass in the numbers required to fight in this manner as our primary approach. We tend to believe in agility and high tech (look at out reformulation of our South China Sea defense). We spend way more high tech dollars, use fewer people and try to destroy less infrastructure (unless we have to). The IDF Iron Dome is an example of this approach in a defensive posture. But guess what, when your tech fails or is neutralized or over matched it always comes down to the infantry and armor going inch by inch.
Desert Storm may be the last time a high tech Western force can soften the enemy to make the final assault a fast attack where the enemy surrenders in droves because they have been pounded into submission and really didn't want to fight. Today the fighters are duped into thinking it is as existential the end of the world if you do not die or win so they will fight too long (Hamas). They have no idea that they may be dying for media points and political currency. In the age of open source and cheap tech asymmetry will defeat superior spending and prolong conflict.
Russia will win in the Ukraine because the Ukraine will run out of Ukrainian blood to shed and US dollars to be made and the world really doesn't care to fight with or for them. It was never existential, the Ukraine could have survived if they had taken the initial peace deal offered at the start of recent hostilities (as you noted). It is now existential at the hands of Ukrainian leaders who are buying villas as they romp around pretending they know how to fight a war.
Where the West has High Tech superiority the Russians will use low tech indirect fire weapons, flatten the opposition and roll over them with frontal assault just like they have in every war, slow, unrelenting and expensive. Where there is tech parity or even some advantage Russia will be strategic and destroy at will. Low spend with greater mass will often win out unless you want to go WMD.
The only real way to stand up to them is face to face, and that will be a fight the West does not want to have. A proxy war is always sub-optimal and just gets lots of people killed for Pyrrhic show until the sponsors get kicked out: see Vietnam, The Middle East, Afghanistan and now Ukraine.....
Great job of analysis (you don't need the background music your voice is better :-) ) Be well...

West duped Russia, perhaps, that defensive troops sent to Sumy, but duped themselves more, into believing that taking undeveloped land in Russia' s Kursk region, would change Russia troops deployment on the frontline. Russia did not divert troops from the frontline, instead it turned the tables on West and stepped up it's operations on the frontline. Now Ukraine has lost significantly more ground, and more importantly it had its best troops and NATO forces allowed to concentrate in Kursk, trapping them in a cauldron in Kursk and obliterating troops and equipment in Kursk in their confined area, without air cover, making them easy defenceless targets.once their equipment wiped out. Also since the Ukrainian terrorised the civilians who refused to be evacuated, Russia show how the West and specifically Ukraine's showed their Russophobia, in its ill treatment and terrorism of Russian civilians. Russia had evacuated most civilians at the beginning of the Kursk invasion. Most civilians were safe, Western Troops could be safely contained, their supplies cut off and then bombed, without fear of injuring it's own civilians and without risk to their own Aerial defence. After first three weeks in Kursk the NATO' s plan had already been foiled. Never interrupt the enemy when it is making a mistake. This mistake has cost NATO and Ukraine significantly. To try and make a PR statement of a failed offensive is just just pure comedy. But one side believes in comedy. The other, in reality.

I have a serious problem with your analysis - the assumption that the Russians were surprised. You yourself listed the ways in which they could have observed the movement of troops at their border. Would it not have been a good plan to ALLOW the Ukrainians to divert and commit forces to an incursion that was doomed to fail while weakening the defense of Pokrovsk?
I think the incursion was not only a trap that Russia allowed Ukraine to create for itself but also a strategic defense blunder that Russia saw and allowed. What do you say to that?

    • @prossi4216
      @prossi4216 3 дні тому

Hard to say, the size of the incursion was an embarrassment for the Russian government. So if they really let the Ukrainians in, they didn't expect it to be as large.

Maybe it was not a surprise and was this a convenient move for the Russians. They blocked the ukrain troops so the objective (Kursk NPP) was not reached. In the mean time the Eastern front became weaker so the Russians could move on.

If Boris Johnson didn’t stop the peace deal in March 2022 , he would’ve been right.
Russians made it to Kiev in a couple days , stopped, negotiated , pulled back, old Boris basically got the Ukranian to back stab the Russians on the deal.
