Who am I?
I am the honest vocal coach! I have been teaching for 16 years and been singing since I was 17. I teach from my own studio and via Skype. I specialise in teaching children, and teenagers pop and musical theatre but I am trained in all genres of music. I have studied every voice technique there is, including Speech Level Singing, Estill, Bel Canto, Robert Lunte, London College of Music, ABRSM, Ria Keen, Kim Chandler, Stevie Van Lange and many more. I have been around!

Selena isn’t the best vocalist in terms of range or power we can all agree. but you can’t deny she has a voice that’s unique enough to be appreciated
Her range is actually close to demi's or even lower (Bb2-A5(B5 scream)-c#6(F7 scream)...

@@enchantedByVocals13 It would be pretty nice if we could see more of Selena's lower range. She isn't that good when she's singing with a higher range (which is in a lot of her songs tbh). Maybe that can change in the future, especially now where we have singers like Dua Lipa, for example, who is doing so damn well with her husky kinda deep tone. I wish the same for Selena 🤗
Everybody has a voice unique enough to be appreciated. You just need to learn how to correctly use your voice and that's it.

I LOVE Selena's voice. I will die on that hill. Also, with her songwriting, it's a mix. She writes a lot more than she used to. I think she is a good songwriter cuz the songs she has writing creds on, in my opinion, are lyrically and melodically good.
Selena does write/co-write her own songs. Particularly the Revival era, she wrote on every single song in that era. Along with all her singles since.

She's not the best singer ever but her voice has improved over the years and she has a nice tone and she definitely has potential to become an amazing singer that's my opinion
I like her tone and also her songs (mostly after 2010) but she really seems to have struggle with herself at performances. I reaaaally don't like her lives but she is improving and that's important to me. Overall I like her because You don't have to be Mariah or Beyonce to be liked and appreciated.
But to be honest I just hate when some of her fans say she is better than Ariana and Miley, Hell no she is NOT. but of course she is respectable and I like her.

Can you name someone who receives sole songwriting credit? Unless they're also an actual musician and composed the music to go along with the lyrics, then they most surely WILL have someone else's name listed there with them.

Selena didn't write her songs (with exceptions) until the Revival era. Most songs on Revival & her singles since then have been (co)written by her.
Which I know, having worked for a record producer, means she sat in the room while they wrote it and they threw in a few words she happened to say while she was there. :)

Hate her? She receives zero hate compared to someone like Miley and other popstars. Her Instagram posts get more likes than Taylor Swift. 10 million likes are a regular thing for her. The whole world adores her. The minority has the right to dislike her.

She started to take part in the writting process in 2013, cowritting The Heart Wants What It Wants, which was published in 2014. In 2015 she released her last album, Revival, in which she cowrote 11 out of 16 songs. From then on, she has cowritten all the songs she has been releasing (we don't talk anymore, trust nobody, it ain't me, bad liar, fetish, wolves, back to you, taki taki, anxiety, i can't get enough). Btw really apreciate this reaction showing Selena is a great singer!

You see that she sings all the time in autotune playback, and a sucker to sing is out of tune and whispers, that any person can sing a song, for example I sing better than she I can make high notes that only you can dream of doing, any artist is superior to her,With her voice she does not transmit any emotion, true singing is a powerful tenor voice and high notes that make you get to many emotions

Twister *on the Revival album. Even then, the 6 songs she contributed on were written with 6 or 7 other writers. I literally HAVE to laugh.

I always find this very funny. She has tons of fans, sold out concerts and yet, there's people say, she can't sing. Yes, she had top 10 and even top 5 songs. Sure, she may not be the greatest, but she has to be good if her songs makes it to the top of the charts.

Selena is going through depression and anxiety, so she gives so much emotions to her voice, too much... I feel bad for her.
I am not much into her music but I see lots of comments about "soft voices" being not "able to sing" and I believe honestly that is not true. I do ethereal music so I also "choose" being breathy and soft as stylistic approach. Not every style requires diva belting, or melismatic ornaments, it depends on mood and intention, and emotion
She has so pretty voice, people need to stop saying you can’t sing if you don’t do high notes all the time.

Late to the party (as always!) but can we just appreciate voices like hers more? Sure- we know quite well she ain't Ariana Grande, Mariah Carey, Demi Lovato or others, who are known for their outstanding voices, but she is a good singer. Her tone is quite lovely.
Why do we always think that a singer is someone, who can belt and has a massive vocal range? It's not really fair, truth be told.
That was a great clip of her live vocals. Selena Gomez may not have the best voice but she manages to use it pretty well most of the time. She does rely on her backup singers sometimes because she gets really tired but doesn’t use playback anymore especially not on her Revival tour. She doesn’t write or actually make most songs but she has been contributing more to them since 2015 so she does get credited as a co-writer on everything since. Her new album expected to come later this year or next year is suppose to be have her best songs that fit her voice and what she wants to share with the world. Hopefully she will release it soon so she can go on tour and we finally get to hear her live because we don’t get to that often.

The reason why she sound so breathy is because of lupus. But she has definitely improved a lot from her Disney times. Btw, she does co write all of her songs starting from her album Revival. Pls react to Sober by her, live... it’s so good

nathan urie do you forget that Lupus affects everyone differently? our bodies, dna and cells are all different, nobody is ever fully the same. Try to put some science behind what you’re saying.
nathan urie Lupus affects people differently. In Selena’s case, she swells up a lot and you can tell because sometimes her face gets chubbier within weeks apart. That can cause shortness of breath. Before getting the transplant, she said that she collapsed and couldn’t breathe and had to ask her friend Francia for help cause she couldn’t even hold her water bottle. Different people get different symptoms. Lupus affects people differently.
She couldn’t sing before lupus and many had lupus such as lady Gaga and Michael Jackson.
And "People" are like she can't sing!

lol definitely not. She’s alright. Billie is a great vocalist that knows perfectly how to use her voice and sounds the same live and recorded and Britney is actually a really good vocalist that actually sings way different than her recorded vocals, that’s why she never sings live, but she’s still good. Selena is kind of all over the place tbh

I love Selena's voice very much, I find it very comfortable, but I have noticed that her voice has changed in recent years. I don't know whether it is due to her being Sick or for other reasons (I am talking about the live shows) but I still find it comfortable And she's one of my fav artists

I think Selena is a good singer, but she just doesn't sing the right songs. Her ballads are so beautiful when she sings them live, but the up-tempo songs are just to much for her voice.

It’s true that Selena has a unique tone but I almost see her as more of a vocal stylist as opposed to having a strong, high quality voice in the traditional sense. However, vocal styling is a very important contribution too & just as enjoyable to listen to.👍😊

Selena is a tremendously talented singer. She is incredibly musical; she phrases her songs' lines beautifully and has a sensual soothing voice. She is also becoming better and better and knows how to blend her voice in duets. She has the best ear. I love listening to Selena. She is a great performer.
