  • We're fiberglassing the transom and wood plates using polyester resin( you could also use epoxy). This transom is DIY from start to finish. This is an on going project, doing a full rebuild and restoration of my boat. A 1998 Bayliner Capri 1850 LS witha mercruiser 3.0 engine.

I love the videos! We are beginning boaters restoring a 1977 OMC Trihull for a bay boat. Like yours, had to replace the floor and fix stringers.

About how many gallons of resin did the entire boat take? I am about to start a Bayliner myself

Why did u and how do u know where to use the chop strand mat and the 1708? I’m doing a project myself and was wanting to learn.

You can use either or both for the whole thing, but 1708 gives more structural strength, chop strand mat(csm) also gives strength, just not as much 1708. The 1708 bends easier when your laying it down on corners and around edges with sharp curves. Csm is cheaper. That's my 2 cents

All the rot or the entire tramsom
Looks like just the rotted area?

I just found a bit of rot on the inside left of my out drive about a sq foot worth and oddly enough I guess because it has a v8 mounted on engine mounts they ( bayl8ner didnt glass the inside of the transom) not really load bearing

I ordered the rolls of fiberglass from sherfab.com and for the resin I'd recommend just buying on Amazon, the total Boat brand is good
