  • We begin to core out the old wet transom plywood that was slowly rotting due to water intrusion from our failing hydraulic swim platform. We learned how to do this by researching on the internet (a lot of UA-cam). We also consulted the Gougeon Brothers (manufacturers of West System) as well as many other companies' technical support help.
We had little experience with fiberglass prior to this, but were willing to learn how to do it yourself, and we save tens of thousands of dollars by doing so. This isn't a how-to boat repair video, but rather a nice overview of some of the work involved in our haulout that took place at 3D Boat Yard on Stock Island, just outside of Key West.

Nice video. Have a 2000 Sea Ray 380DA with diesels. Pulling both engines a doing a makeover in the engine room. Noticed today that the transom core may be delaminated or wet. Will have to do some core samples to check.
    Great job on the repairs.

Wow. That’s some HD work you took on. kudos to you both. I’m in the midst of some rotted floor replacement myself and will be tackling some of the same tasks you guys endured with glassing over plywood. But for now, we’re in Venice FL enjoying a semi vacation. Looking forward to the next vid.

This video was great. Can you guys do more videos of repairs and travel experiences on the water instead of always doing videos like the one on Dec 29 2020 where you both sit in front of a camera interview style. That video was important but do more videos of you lives on a boat.

Thanks for that feedback. We’re glad you enjoyed this one. We try to do a mix of both informational and lifestyle type videos , but the next video we put out on Sunday will be similar to this one.

I find you very help. Thanks for all you share. I am researching living aboard and realize there will be times when I may have to live on board, on the hard. I find videos on many topics related to living aboard but sadly none cover the details on living on the hard (boat out of water in a yard that allows DYI work). Details like cost, power, water, pump out. Do you use the bathroom on the boat. Do you know of any videos that covers this? Again, great work and thanks for your contribution.

Replace your anodes frequently, they help with saltwater corrosion. Stick to stainless steel everything. I’m in fresh water and can only imagine what salt water does to your boat, I spread salt on parking lots in the winter and my salt trucks decay into a pile of rust after a few years.

Great video! We just uploaded a video about the DIY lithium battery bank we installed on our boat. We would love to hear your thoughts!

Rebuilt a transom years ago. I've kept my promise to never do that again.

How many dozen drill bits did you go through on that stainless asks the guy that loves visits to harbor freight for drill bits lol.

These were some obnoxiously expensive specialty bits, and we cleaned out the stores supply and killed every last bit. 😆
