Illinois State University is in Normal, IL, not Springfield as the commentator mistakenly said. DeKalb has Northern Illinois University, which should have been mentioned.
OK, Mendota is not on the Illinois River, it is east of there about 20 miles. Illinois Central college is in East Peoria, not Mendota. Who writes this stuff?
I live in Lincolnshire, IL. but is getting unaffordable within the past 10 years. It's being blame because of the best school districts in the country. Out of the 10 places mentioned here, I would definitely pick De Kalb within the next 2 or 3 years for sure.
The author got almost nothing right about Mendota. It is not the county seat of LaSalle County, Ottawa is. It is not on the Illinois River but about 15 miles north of it. North Central College is located in Naperville, not Mendota. Illinois Valley Community College is located in Oglesby, just south of the Illinois River. I hope he did a better job researching the other cities on the list.
My God, who did the research on this. Springfield is the home of Illinois State University?? Umm, I don't think so. That would be in Normal. And home to the states largest theme park?? Seems to me Gurnee would carry that honor. WTH......
I suggest showing a map of the entire state then zooming down to the location being discussed. Cheers.

Dekalb is not the county seat of Dekalb County. Sycamore is.
I left Illinois decades ago. So sad because it was once a nice place to live.
Me too I left in1989
I love Illinois.
From Abuja Nigeria
More errors. Granite City is outside St. Louis, and is not considered Western Illinois (Macomb, Quincy, Galesburg would).
The only good places to live in Illinois are Wisconsin, Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri, and Iowa.

I was raised in the Shire and sorry to hear that it's getting pricey.

Your directions were way off west was east & east was west as far as location of towns. Born & raised in Illinois. Good Old Abe country. ❤😉
The capital is a theme park? 🤷♂️

Dump the AI narration and get an actual person to narrate.
