    Kim, I have watched a number of your videos over the past year or so, they are always neat and interesting. However, I have to tell you this is one of the more interesting projects have seen anyone take on. VERY COOL. Takes a great imagination to come up with this one. Also, I know it must take you time to provide all those links, but it is much appreciated.

    What an amazing build and turn! Kim, I noticed that all ur gouges are the Irish grind of 55°. Why is this ur favorite?

    • @KimTippin
      @KimTippin  4 роки тому +1

      Thank you!! I feel like it is more versatile than my standard grind. I honestly had a hard time with the standard grind at first. I put the Irish on it and wow!! changed the game. For me it is the one tool I could use to do everything I need. I love how I can take HUGE cuts with it and then delicate sheer scraping with the same tool. The tip is perfect for small areas and details too. Some woods I can use the whole side wing to hog out material. My therapy lol

This particular piece is one of my absolute favorites that I've viewed from your many projects. I also follow along with Doug from Pohl Barn. well, I wish I could say they don't. but when turning green wood it will happen to some degree regardless to what you do. It is the expectation of turning green wood. Just depend on weather you like that or not.

    Hi Kim.... I use the Lyle Jamieson hollowing system and really like it. It is easy to set up and accepts other boring bars (I also use John Jordan's hollowers). You can find plans on the web to make your own backrest, saving a few bucks. The only downside is you have to be careful when replacing the laser pen batteries because it tends to crossthread easliy and you have to replace it. Best of luck!

    Hi Kim, Im new to the wood turning and this project has really inspired me to create something similar, (Hope you dont mind) but am thinking on doing this same design but airbrushing the details like the threads and metalic looking bottom. this way i could make rust marks and weather the area that would be the metal looking part. Thanks again for your videos you really do some amazing work.

    This is a beautiful object, but I cannot understand it. It took a lot of hard work to do this, except for how it looks there is no intellectual honesty to the whole thing. May be its appearance is what satisfy you, but what is the essence of this object. The cross stitches make me feel they are used to tie the two halves together, but they are not. The hollow form gives me the feeling that it is supposed to hold something, but it doesn’t. That is why this is so perplexing to me. You definitely are very talented and more than capable of producing beautiful looking objects, what don’t you go that step further to make it intellectually satisfying?

    • @KimTippin

    Good morning my fellow artist! Do u ever use Gaboon Ebony and or African Black wood? Such Talent Kim...I could just watch this all day...I think sanding is my favorite process with projects. I also enjoy finishing a piece with polyurethane, wax, shellac, etc...u just make it look so easy...and I know it takes a gr8 eye and feel for ur wood. Thank u again. Have a gr8 holiday with family...wow this is so cool looking! That metal wax is going on my shopping list...we don’t have a Hobby Lobby in Myrtle Beach SC....

    Very nice, you know you could use a little heat on the rope so it wouldn’t be hair

      Thank you ! lol yeah I tried that and it burnt up. This is jute rope so it is highly flammable. Plus, I like the hair. lol

    Hi Kim, I’m in the UK and have polymyalgia which affects my upper arms and hands so I definitely needed assistance with hollowing. I bought the Hope Deep Hollowing System and find it a tremendous asset. However, it is necessary to remove the tailstock assembly which is a struggle with my condition. But I have seen the Tim Yoder Elbow system which attaches to the tailstock and think I would have bought this had I lived in the US. Incidentally you have the digits 2COR.5 On your lathe, is it 2 Corinthians 5. Regards and so many thanks for your videos and dialogue. Brian

      Thank you Brian for sharing that. I will look into both systems.
      2 Corinthians 5:17 the dust is covering the "17".

    Don't worry about finishes sticking to shellac, as everything sticks to shellac and shellac sticks to everything.
