Hard to know how old she is. For most of her career her birth year was said to be 1933, but someone started publishing the year as 1924 a few years ago. She has never said which is correct. It's likely that she misrepresented her age when she started acting as many women of her era did.

He did not have the tools to express himself any other way. While not an excuse, its very real and very prevalent amongst men of all races. She herself described him as a genius years after their divorce and his death. Im just using her words. I have a natural unforgiving nature, but I still know that people have a good side. I hate what he did to her, but I cannot deny how his music makes me feel. That would be me lying to myself. He was a disturbed person with trauma and mental health issues. Are you expecting people like that to live up to your standards of acceptability and accountability? If you are, you are kidding yourself. Do you want to be judged forever for the wrong you've done? Or do you want to be seen as balanced and a person who did some things right, as well? If so then you need to extend that same foresight to someone else.

I think people were better looking back then, no caked on makeup, and better hairstyles. I have always looked up to Cicely. People who like her should read her autobiography "Just As I Am."

HS Teacher here! I always include a variation of clear, concise, correct and appropriate BUT it's not until I tell my students 'get it out' or 'just write' (what Cicely's supervisor taught her), that my students are at ease and understand revision and editing is part of the process.

Wonderful. Miss Tyson was truly a class act. And always a professional. And she was always proud of her years as an executive secretary. Watching this shows how much we have lost since 1988. The 24-hour news cycle and cellphones have NOT helped.
