5:09 A. You're Emulator is awful B. You're Disc is scratched to hell. This is not what any version should sound like unless your CD looks like it was used as a coaster.
Square Eyed Jak that's really strange. The only thing I can think that could have done that would be a manufacturing error. In which case your game has that as value, but I'm sure you would like it better if you could hear the music.
Have you tried cleaning it? I actually had two Sega Dreamcast games, "Airforce Delta" which crashed every time I started a mission and "Dead or Alive 2" which keep freezing on Kasumi's Stage 5 match in Story Mode. My Dad mentioned about using Metal Cleaner (the brand I used was: "Autosol Metal Polish"). So we applied and rubbed a little bit on the surfaces which actually fixed the issues. No freezing issues. Really glad "Airforce Delta" works as the US version is not very common.
Fun fact : Spyro was originally going to be green. But because of the fact that the grass was green the developers instead changed him to purple to not confuse people with telling the grass and Spyro apart.
All I can say is that I can vouch for JoshKall Plays. My Spyro 1 disc always skips on certain level soundtracks such as Terrace Village and Haunted Towers :/

One of the most memorable jokes was the "what does this music make you think of? Mexico?" I laughed out loud at that one, and I pissed myself at the "They stole a dragon egg and a jet engine" hahahah So true, hated those cunts growing up.

I refuse to accept the fact that some of the crash games have far more things wrong yet they have the same rating as Spyro The Dragon I know they are completely different. But I guess it is not on really anyone taste

The big thing about it though, for quite a number of people who disagree, it will be the nostalgia talking, I grew up with it myself, so I will be biased to say the game was, and is still great fun, granted I do see your point and have to agree as well.

I first played this on PS3 on some Spyro Trilogy in the PS Store, I had a bit of nostalgia of Spyro 3 while playing since they're rather similar. I only played Spyro 3 on PS1 as a kid and was my first Spyro game. Too bad Spyro's in Skylanders now.
I agree with your opinions on the game. It's a good review. This always been my least favourite entry of the series. However, that's probably because I've played Spyro: Year of the Dragon. Before, I played this game as a kid. lol. Out of the series, its the most forgettable to be honest.
Dr. Shemp was probs the only sorta challenging (I definitely took slightly more damage from him than the others), straight-up boss battle in this game. And he's pretty much a tweaked Papu Papu. Sequels definitely up the ante in dat department. That and they give you the hover ability, something I kept trying to use here during my last playthrough but forgot wasn't in this game so I kept plummeting into oblivion lol
Great game, though its super easy. Once you figure out how to get everything, you beat it each time after. Too bad about your copy because the music is probably the best of the trilogy.

I downloaded the NTSC version off PSN and that one runs perfectly. Probably been polished off before release like but hey ho! The writers of South Park should keep you in mind if try need a new voice for Cartman though! ;)

I played it for the first time this year. Honestly was not impressed. The last boss was a total pain in the ass as well. It was basically just chasing two thieves and then chasing Gnasty Gnork. Awesome. I played through the entire game for the last encounter to suck more dick than any boss I've played against.

I played a copy of Spyro 1 that had the same audio glitch. and that's on NTSC so it's probably not PAL version. I always figured it was the disc, but it was weird that the game played perfectly except for the audio

My favorite game out of the whole franchise is Spyro: The year of the Dragon. Mainly because nostalgia. I tried playing the other two games and I just could not get too into the games. If the game I played the most was Spyro 2 then i'd like that game more than any other... Tbh about N64 games... It does give a lower polygon count the farther away an object or character is. Try this... Walk away from your camera in Mario64. Mario will look literally like a pile of blocks from a distance. ;) I laughed when I first saw this. Great review Square Eye Jack. Excellent review, Jak! While this game is one of the most important in my childhood, along with the other PS1 Spyro games, I've never had a strong urge to replay it. Wondering why that was, I stuck in it about two years ago and gave it a full run (like I always do with Spyro games whenever I start playing them, no exceptions... I can't help it, it's like a tradition for me) and I can see why. It isn't as grand as my memories made it out to be, and your review is pretty spot on in every area. The biggest problem, like you said, is that it's just too easy to get bored. After you run through them once, the levels are really barren and void of anything to do besides kill the same easy enemies and collect gems. It's kinda lonely, like you're trapped on a deserted island... well, its populated by a crap-ton of gnorcs, but you know what I mean. And if you don't remember where those gems are at from your childhood memories, then get ready for living hell as you try to find that last couple of gems in a giant level. But despite this, I can't help but think fondly of it. I just love the design of the world so much. For a kid, it's like playing through a storybook or something, with all kinds of strange creatures and mystical elements and adventure. I know it sounds cheesy, but the Spyro games, even with their PS1 graphics, just inspire me with their worlds. They make your imagination run wild. The loading screens really do help you feel like you're traveling in this fantasy world where anything is possible and wonder lies just over the horizon. But anyway, enough of my sappy memories of low-res polygons, I thoroughly enjoyed the video and I can't wait until the sequels get a look!

Square Eyed Jak You're definitely not the only one, man. The soundtrack of the homeworlds in Spyro 2 is enough to literally almost bring a tear to my eye. That's something I'm excited about in the next video is to see what you think of the homeworlds and the vastly improved atmosphere overall.
That's because you don't like collectathons. Most collectathons are like Spyro 1. Spyro 2 and 3 are mission platformers and are more up your alley. In my opinion Spyro 1 is an amazing collectathon platformer and much better than Spyro 3.

To say that most dragons only say thank you is a great exaggeration and the dragon who says "The fools in this world are invincible." is referring to the fools you find right next to him and elsewhere in this world that when attacked start a timer that changes the environment for you to reach new places. Your review seems in some places a bit unfair.

In Spyro 2, there are cheat codes that enable you change his color into blue, red, black, yellow, green or pink.

Yea that music stuttering is a scratched disc I believe. My Spyro 1 is fine but my Spyro 2 skips sometimes.

Lower poly versions of the environment that get higher poly the closer you get to them is called mip mapping which was used in a lot of n64 games.
I like this game just for it being so simplistic and peaceful.
I guess you preferred Spyro 2 way more since it fixed basically all of your complaints with this one.

Hey Jak, remember when I told you about making a Crash Bandicoot fan game? I have thought of another great idea :D, wanted your opinion on it. What do you think of a Crash game, where you have to go against Mario and Sonic, with Spyro helping Crash, Luigi helping Mario and Tails helping Sonic.

the music glitch is due to disk scratches I think. I remember it happening to me when I was young.
Excellent review, Jak! While this game is one of the most important in my childhood, along with the other PS1 Spyro games, I've never had a strong urge to replay it. Wondering why that was, I stuck in it about two years ago and gave it a full run (like I always do with Spyro games whenever I start playing them, no exceptions... I can't help it, it's like a tradition for me) and I can see why. It isn't as grand as my memories made it out to be, and your review is pretty spot on in every area.
The biggest problem, like you said, is that it's just too easy to get bored. After you run through them once, the levels are really barren and void of anything to do besides kill the same easy enemies and collect gems. It's kinda lonely, like you're trapped on a deserted island... well, its populated by a crap-ton of gnorcs, but you know what I mean. And if you don't remember where those gems are at from your childhood memories, then get ready for living hell as you try to find that last couple of gems in a giant level.
But despite this, I can't help but think fondly of it. I just love the design of the world so much. For a kid, it's like playing through a storybook or something, with all kinds of strange creatures and mystical elements and adventure. I know it sounds cheesy, but the Spyro games, even with their PS1 graphics, just inspire me with their worlds. They make your imagination run wild. The loading screens really do help you feel like you're traveling in this fantasy world where anything is possible and wonder lies just over the horizon.
But anyway, enough of my sappy memories of low-res polygons, I thoroughly enjoyed the video and I can't wait until the sequels get a look!

Square Eyed Jak You're definitely not the only one, man. The soundtrack of the homeworlds in Spyro 2 is enough to literally almost bring a tear to my eye. That's something I'm excited about in the next video is to see what you think of the homeworlds and the vastly improved atmosphere overall.
That's because you don't like collectathons. Most collectathons are like Spyro 1. Spyro 2 and 3 are mission platformers and are more up your alley. In my opinion Spyro 1 is an amazing collectathon platformer and much better than Spyro 3.

Skicrazed Teddy I don't have the patience for learning all of the tactics of speedrunning. Also there is nothing like a good challenge (none of that in this game).

To say that most dragons only say thank you is a great exaggeration and the dragon who says "The fools in this world are invincible." is referring to the fools you find right next to him and elsewhere in this world that when attacked start a timer that changes the environment for you to reach new places.
Your review seems in some places a bit unfair.
