I grew up with this beautiful young man. I was just a kid. He gave me lessons in his studio apartment in Hollywood... To make extra cash when he arrived here, broke (from Greensburg). I never learned. But I had a truck. And he would call me to help roadie for Balck Sheep, and then Racer X. He came to my house with, bassist John Aldereti (Racer X), for a New Year's Eve Party. He ate apple sauce, and drank champagne (for the first time), at midnight. The 80's were so fuhreekin random.
Paul gilbert is not human, Paul gilbert is beast monster master of guitar god ever, more than shredder Thank you for your reaction of my guitar hero PAUL GILBERT
2 Guitarists have made me wanna stop playing altogether for the past 28 years because I'll never be in that realm: one is Nuno Bettencourt. The other - Paul Gilbert!
Paul Gilbert was in the band Mr.Big.Along with bassist Billy Sheehan. Then Ritchie Kotzen played lead guitar for Mr.Big.Biily played with many other well known artist such as Steve Vai.Later on,Ritchie Kotzen and Billy for a band along with Dream Theatre drummer Mike Portnoy,The Winery Dogs.
Long long time Racer X Gilbert fan. Seen multiple times in SF @ "The Stone". Also, met Paul. 1st Mr.Big show, Omni Oakland. Backstage. His pinky finger is much longer than most people's middle finger 🖕!!!
Met Paul after the concert in Belgrade back in 2008. We talked for a bit and he signed the ticket. Very cool person. Please react to Steve Vai - tender surrender.
For the non-musicians here, this song originally had Scott Travis on drums. Here is Marco, who is technically a total badass, but Scott’s playing lends itself to the song much better. Does that connect with you guys? Perfect isn’t always better? As a touring musician, I always enjoy the fact that the best bands don’t , technically speaking, have the best musicians ❤❤❤❤
This is literally one of those songs ppl kept telling me to listen to as a guitar player. I’m more rytham guy tho! Lmao. But still love this song, and I did learn certain runs and stuff you can do on the guitar. While playing rytham guitar.
Every time there is a Paul Gilbert video, someone has to mention buckethead. Never fails. Not only did Paul teach him, but Paul has a better grasp of things like voicing, phrasing & most importantly melody. Paul can do everything from straight shred to Beatles melodys. Just a monster talent
@@scotttipler8797 As much as i like Paul, i disagree. Buckethead is a much more versatile player, with genres ranging from jazz fusion, ambient, trash metal and blues. I can tell you probably didn't listen to Bucketheaf stuff beyond Jordan and Soothsayer or else you wouldn't have mention Paul having a better feeling for melody. I like both players, but Paul Gilbert for me is a bad ass shredding "rock" guitarist while Buckethead plays nearly every genre known to be played on a guitar. Both virtuoso's but on very different sides of the spectrum...
@@JamoZNL this is exactly why I made the comment I did. While I too enjoy bucketheads works from his early years, imo he hasn't grown/progressed like Paul has. There isn't a single style/genre that Paul can't play. He literally has zero weaknesses. Paul continues to grow with every new release.
Stop pushing that inferior version to people. It`s terrible. Steve is slightly out of tune, bit sloppy here and there and the orchestra destroys a near perfect song. G3 1996 is by far the best version of FTLOG...
@@JamoZNL The orchestra stiff is interesting, but doesn't deliver the original composition, replacing guitar parts with orchestral parts. Live performances often have some improvisation added, which again is interesting but strays from the original composition. I'd rather hear the studio originals in almost every case, especially with Yngwie.
You really should check out Porcupine Tree 'hatesong' from Dvd Arriving Somewhere - to see chemistry even better than this - by the way PG has always been Fire, I have mr.big & PG albums - but it's all 80s glam & blues with tricks , yawn yawn yawn - and everyone has copied Gilbert - of course he's special - but, nothing new there !!!
Paul is probably one of the most diverse players of all time. This isn't just yawn glam, blues and tricks. Paul mixes a ton of Classical phrasing in his stuff. But, he also is a master flamenco, blues and jazz player as well.

Amazing guitar player but boring as well. Heard of this guy back in the late 1980s. Impressed by his actual playing but not even remotely impressed with him as a songwriter when compared to tons of other guitarists. I can name many guitarists but I already typed too much so I will name just one which is Devin Townsend. As a songwriter Paul Gilbert isn't even close to Devin Townsend in writing music. Yes Paul can play the actual guitar with more skill and flash but as a songwriter, Paul has nothing on Devin Townsend.

Paul can play anything, he’s great.
The reason why i have Paul as one of my favorite guitarrists since 1986 in Racer X.
Use to play that song on my guitar

I have this on my playlist for years ago, still a classic track even years later.
His drummer, Marco, was one of the finalists in the Dream Theater drummer search. It was between him and Mangini.
The guy is a guitar legend
And a good guy, too. Took a master class with him 3 years ago and had a chance to actually play with him. He is SO down to earth.
..and that Marco is Marco Minnemann, one of the best drummers in this earth. Try to listen The Aristocrats - Get it like that. The gods trio.
Agree.!!
Hell yeah! Paul Gilbert and Marco Minnemann are sick! in a good way of course..hope they stay healthy
Paul gilber. From argentina .
incredible
Love you guys..Stay safe.

If you like Guitar and Bass excellent unison playing, I can recommend watching Extreme playing Cupid's Dead live.

That's Linus of Hollywood on that Ric bass
Andy James, Angel of Darkness, Live in Paris.
Another song by racer X I suggest that you react to is technical difficulties
