I've been playing blues and rock music for nearly 40 years, yet only discovered Sister Rosetta recently. I can't believe how ahead of her time she is. Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard, Chuck Berry , Carl Perkins and Elvis Presley can all eat their hearts out. This woman deserves more credit for inventing Rock and Roll than any of them.
All those you mentioned already loved her. So much of the "British Invasion" and beyond were huge fans of American Gospel and Blues and many started doing covers. And you are so right. This music hits so hard even today, and Sister Rosetta doesn't get the mainstream recognition she deserves! ❤
All the greats knew Sister. Elvis, Johnny Cash,The Stones, JiniHedticks -- and when Interviewed, like Chuck Berry they gave her credit for the inspiration foreverything they did. It's just a factor of bull shit media that she didn't get the credit she obviously should have when the other blues and rock great MEN were finally getting their due. But there's nobody to blame except Sister that she refused to address her diabetes until it was too late and she died WAAAAY too soon.😭

Gran interprete gospel, blues, precursora del rock and roll. Una gran voz y personalidad y seguramente una gran persona, inspiradora e inpirada. Suban todo lo de ella. Gracias por esto!!
Rosetta Tharpe musical style has transcended throughout manyl decades. To understand her musical style linked rock n roll to gospel is mind blowing. Getting her due credit.
Took a blind man to call out for Jesus son of David heal me! When all others that could see are really the blind ones... God has a sense of humour.... lol love it....
Godmother of R&R..an example of how one person can transform a genre and hence change history as we know it..Elvis..Chuck Berry and the society as a whole owe this natural genius a debt of gratitude..And why isnt this perforar in the R&R Hall of Fame..Really a shame..Elvis..Chuck yes..but the original inspiration not?.. injustice on a grande scale..thank you Rosetta for yor contribution to R&R
My head is exploding right now, in a good way. Why haven't I heard of her, within the Church or outside of it? Rhetorical question, I know the sad answers, but I'm so happy to finally discover her music over UA-cam. Thank you, Mr. Voorwinde :-)

Que joya, antes que Chuck, antes que Bo Diddley,, Little Richard o ELvis, estuvo la que le puso la primer piedra a las bases del Rock, la gran Rosetta Tharpe. She was a jewel. a touch of Gospel, a touch of Blues and what do we have? thanks God we have the records to remember her legacy.
No se que entenderás por rock, aquí no hay más que temas Gospel, rithm & blues, no oí nada que suene a lo que se llamó después rock&roll. El Rock&Roll nació de la fusión de la música negra con la música blanca el que no entienda esto no entendió nada.

I say sister Thorpe.back in the 1970, down In flordia no more than 20 people in a gym. I was amazed that the way she played gospel was based on real blues, but she made it gospel. She finished her first set came over and tried to sell me an album. I can't remember if I bought one but I think I did, because there was a sister Thorpe album at my aunts house and she had the record player. I new what she was playing on guitar was her own .
OMG. You are so lucky. I am at least blessed to have seen Texan Mance Lipscomb in Austin's teeny Vulcan Gas Company in the late 6Os. He proudly showed me his tooth crown that had a gold inlay guitar! My father saw him in San Antonio the next day in San Antonio and spent all the day after that live concert taking Lipscomb on a tour of the whole city -- including the multimedia presentation of a Mance Lipscomb documentary at the Institute of Texas Cultures that Mr.lipscomb did not even know existed.
Chuck Berry is credited with rejecting his label as father of tock and roll saying " I spent my whole life trying my best to impersonate Sister Rosetta Tharpe." It's just the crappy mainstream media that decides whom it will promote and how..

When you represent someone and being a king, you supposed to represent like your family? I talk about school children and when they go to school. And they cut the food. Bring home bad grades. You representing your mother and father. If you don't know what that mean, ask your mother and father. We don't act like that and that would Kingdom. And that's why I apologize to my wife, the other day for my behavior but she understood when you have been prosecuted. Sometimes you act, but I know I have to represent her when I'm not feeling bad.👸🏻

Well you know it's rumored that one of Jesus's first Miracles after the resurrection was he said quote rock roll on his exit sister Rosetta seems to have that spirit
This is outstanding, Henk. However, you need to give a proper 'shout out' to Madam Marie Knight who sings the lower parts with Sister on Up Above My Head, Didn't It Rain and Precious Memories. They were always co-billed when they sang together.
This sounds great to me and I never never heard this before. This would sound good in church and it would get me jumping in shouting to Christ. I like the music loud and shouting.
Apparently Elvis, Johnny Cash, and Buddy Holly spent many Sunday morning church services in Black churches for the music. Fitting that Whites back then were asked to sit in the back of the Black churches.
You can hear Chuck, Little Richard, Fats, Bo Diddly and all the rest who emerged in the late late 40s and early 50s. It unfortunately needed Mr. Presley to open up Rock n Roll to the masses and what an incredible talent that he was and his appeal was so much that he somehow became the inventor of Rock and Roll 😢

Chuck Berry once said his entire career was “one long Sister Rosetta Tharpe impersonation.”

Sister Rosetta Tharpe is the TRUTH 🤗
the clear connection of rock and blues roots in gospel.

The MOTHER of Rock N Roll!!! She was the one who gave birth to it!!
Unfortunately, her name is not known like others. Give credit where credit is due!
At least most the blues and rock stars she influenced did give her the adequate credit (in interviews) that the mainstream media never did.

I totally thought it was rocket 88 by jackie brenston / ike turner in 1951 ... but she has songs that sound more rock & roll a decade before that.
Hearing a few licks Chuck Berry got from Sis Rosetta. The woman is a preeminent pickstress.

This sounds great to me and I never never heard this before. This would sound good in church and it would get me jumping in shouting to Christ. I like the music loud and shouting.
Church is where 90% of popular singers got their start.
One example: Elvis
Gospel is the root of all music, as initially, all music was parochial.
Apparently Elvis, Johnny Cash, and Buddy Holly spent many Sunday morning church services in Black churches for the music. Fitting that Whites back then were asked to sit in the back of the Black churches.
