She should definitely be in the rock hall of fame. No excuses.

I saw Rosetta on this 1964 tour in Liverpool, UK. She was great. After the performance, I found my way backstage and got her autograph.

The way it is worded still doesn't give her proper respects in my opinion. Why is Elvis still the King of Rock N Roll? Sister Rosetta Tharpe is one of the essential figures in the history of rock and roll.
If she had not been there as a model and inspiration, Elvis Presley, Little Richard, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and other rock originators would have had different careers. No one deserves more to be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
Sister Rosetta became famous in 1938 with a record called “Rock Me.” She was a star through the 1940’s, a black woman singing gospel music to the accompaniment of her own driving electric guitar - howling and stamping. Her 1945 recording “Strange Things Happening Every Day” has been credited as the first gospel song to cross over to the “race” (later called “R&B”) charts - reaching Number Two and becoming an early model for rock and roll.
She was a sensation, selling out arenas into the 1950’s. In 1947, Sister Rosetta was the first person to put a 14-year-old boy named Little Richard Penniman on a stage. It changed Little Richard’s life - he decided right then to become a performer.
In 1951, twenty-five thousand fans paid to attend her on-stage wedding at Griffith Stadium in Washington DC. She was the hottest act on stage with a guitar. She became a model for Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis. Johnny Cash called her his favorite singer and biggest inspiration.
By the early Sixties the musical revolution she inspired had forgotten her - so Sister Rosetta went to England and played electric guitar for the young blues fans of London and Liverpool. Without Sister Rosetta Tharpe, rock and roll would be a different music. She is the founding mother who gave rock’s founding fathers the idea.

I can remember the ,64 Manchester station appearance as though it was yesterday...I was 22 back then. It was part of a one off Saturday night BBC TV production which featured the 'Soul Train'. This was a steam train that had been laid on to transport a whole group of gospel and soul artistes just for this one occasion. Here in England we hadn't seen anything like this before and it was a sensation that left it's mark on me even to this day. In a way it was also the swan song for steam locomotives here in the UK because within 18 months all of them had been withdrawn from service.

I live in Minnesota- Home of the greatest artist ever- Prince
I would get calls to be apart of his after hours parties at Paisley Park. Plus I’ve been front row at his concerts. I have seen him, up close, many times.
Each time he really got into his songs, he would throw his head back, mouth open, and connected to God- every time.
I would tell people for years, that when he would do this, he was connected to God.
I got laughed at or I’d get the “yeah, sure he is” People thought I was crazy. I challenge to to look at any of his videos & you WILL see the moment he saw God. It was as if HE was playing for God- not just us.
This vid Moved me so much. I had never heard another person say this about any artist. I stopped in my tracks & HAD to write this.
I’ve only know a little bit of Sister Rosetta Tharpe. However in her performance of “Didn’t it rain, children” SHE is standing in the rain, with her steel electric guitar.

About 35 black women and about 25 white women have been recognized by the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. Tharpe wasn't the founder of rock and roll, rock and roll was a new type of jump blues, a secular style invented (by the likes of Wynonie Harris, Wild Bill Moore, and Roy Brown) during a period when Tharpe refused to perform any secular music.

"who really heard of her back then ??? come on." She had hit records on a major label, which is why people like Johnny Cash and Merle Travis already knew her work before any folk festival type people ever got in touch with her.
A person I once knew said to me there were no good black guitarist in the world. I looked at him seething with disgust, thinking of those who came before him, all the way up to Jimi Hendrix whom he said was sloppy....I disagreed. Now I have another to add to the list of great black musicians who came before us. Long Live Rock & Roll!!! don’t forget where it came from and the people who brought it to us.

I believe that if there is a Heaven, for me, it would be a warm summer evening sitting on Sister Tharpe's front porch, drinking lemonade, and listening to her play and sing for eternity. Yep. That would be Heaven for me.
She is the ultimate Rock & Roll, and they hate to admit it because she's black, female, and she was a Star. Even her biographer had to admit that she was Rock & Roll and Elvis Presley learned a lot from her. Amazing Talent!
