I really appreciate this review, by far the highest quality info available. The technical breakdown with the footage of your observations in the field. Just amazing.
Great review, Noel, as usual. Ordered one last week after I watched it (it was the push I needed). Got the board yesterday and tested it today in 2-4 feet range with clean conditions. You were right on the money: it's one of the best small wave boards I've ridden and by far the most fun. Keep up the amazing reviews, you're changing the game for us average Joe's.
Just picked-up my 5'8". I'm 6' 170lbs and sizing is just right. Live in NYC and surf at Rockaway most days. And this little board is perfect for the spot and subway commute. Love it. Thanks for this review - it was spot on.
The Stretch Quad Fin Set goes amazing with the seaside , adds a bit of drive and control and extands the range towards better waves. It made me rediscover the board
I’m a mediocre kook on my best day. Hands down best board I’ve ridden, so fast and handles head high waves no prob. I’ve had the best waves of my life on this thing, hitting the lip hard and doing some solid carves. I’m 5’11 155 and use a 5’4.
Eamon Shields I think it depends on where you’re surfing. I’m east coast Florida so I’m usually in the 1-3 mushy wave range. A lot of reviews I watch are at really good consistent breaks where a 1-2 foot wave breaks really well and guys can easily tear it up. 1-2 foot waves here don’t break nearly as good. I would size up, get a little more volume and get into waves. Maybe even the 5’11 at 41L might not be bad. If you’re at a consistent break go for 5’10, if you want to catch more waves size up. The board flies though, very fast on entry.
Good to know I am your same size was thinking 5'4 thanks for the confirmation now I just need to start making money again so that l can get one. Saludos from Bocas Del Toro.
Absolutely love this board, got it after looking for a grovelling board with a bit of performance and finding this video. Heaps of speed, but holds rail really well. I slightly oversized it I think at 5'5 stock, I'm 6'0 and 83kgs, but the extra foam helps on the small days and I ride a monsta box when the surf gets better (4-5ft+) anyway. Struggles a tiny bit in choppy surf and wind (the extra volume relative to my usual defintely doesn't help) but on clean days this board is absolutely unreal. I use it with the quad machado fins, but have recently been trying it with the machado twins and had an absolute blast on the twins as well. Had it for 9 months and loving it, really durable!
I’m 6’0, 190lbs (86kg) and just picked up a 5’7 stock at 33L. We’re similar weight and you think the 5’5 is oversized? Haven’t gotten it in water yet but hoping I didn’t get too many liters. What are your thoughts on it years later?
@@bajafresk I have a 5'7. I'm 6'2, 86kg. It depends what you want it for. If you want it as a pure groveler then the 5'7 is epic and literally let's you lay turns in knee high weak surf that you would normally only longboard on. But the extra volume makes it way to corky in anything above 2-3ft. I'd go 5'5 if you want it more as a daily driver. Stick with 5'7 if you want it as a groveler.
Great review, Noel, thank you! Just snagged at 5’11. Feels like a dream, just effortless. At 6’5 200 lbs, I have never realized just how hard I have been making it on my self by using an under volumed board. Duck diving in heavy, overhead, short period, beach breaks is a bit of a chore, but I wanted to maximize fun in shoulder high and below ( big waves scare me haha). Couldn’t be happier. The drive out of the first pump is insane, I watched back a video of my first session with it, and it was incredible the amount of projection the board gave on just one mediocre pump. Cheers!
@@garrywinthorp8939 what size are you looking at? I would say after some time riding the board, it felt like I might have sized it up too much(I may still have) but I swapped the front fins( the machado quads) for some normal large thruster front fins. It made a huge difference for me, pivoting was much easier, and I still felt like I had good drive and speed generation. I will be curious to also try it as a twin to see how that feels.
@@1nvisibleguy I am 6'5 210lbs and have had a 6'0 seaside for a couple of months and am wondering if i oversized it too... Mainly it feels like it sits too high and gets jittery in pushier, choppy waves. What is your surfing level and what do yo uuse the board for? I am working on pumping and only just starting to get into cutbacks, so i am wondering if the 6'0 is suitable for my jerry surfing or the 5'11 would be worth dropping down to? The 6'0 just feels wide
@@Stomperproductions well, its tough, I feel like this board is amazing in surf that you don’t need a mid length for, but nothing too fast and critical where you need a bit more rocker. Especially as a tall person with a naturally longer board that would have a longer and straighter rail. Have you watched Noel’s latest video on making a board work for you? That inspired me to try different fins, and it has helped a lot. For context, if it helps: been surfing on and off for 13 years, and I was riding a 6’0 dumpster diver (35ish L) before this for the past 3 years, and would say I am solidly just ok at surfing lol, cutbacks when the wave allows, and top to bottom surfing. I picked the seaside as a daily that would allow me to surf most north county San Diego surf. I would love to test drive a seaside at like 5’9 and see what that was like.
@@1nvisibleguy for me the desire to size down comes more from how high skittish the board is on faster waves rather than a fin specific problem. The 6'0 just has a lot of volume up front as well as a flat planing surface that really sits up a lot at higher speeds. I figured the board might calm down a bit and the rail would be easier to dig in with less volume. That being said, I guess it would also lose grovel power in the really small stuff, which at the end of the day is more what I have this board for ....
Noel you've done it again!😀 Past 4 years I got the Pod Mod, loved it, got the Sampler, loved it, got the Phantom, loved it! Now last week brought the Seaside, for my surfing style this is the best of them all by far! Thanks again for your insight and honesty in your reviews. Keep up the good work champ....
Hi Noel I have a 5' 6'' seaside and love it's speed and drive. After riding it a few times with the original Rob Machado fins I bought some Dave Rastavich Quad fins and find they give more drive and hold in bigger waves especially. The Machado fins slide a bit on solid waves which is fun but I prefer the Rasta fins overall. I haven't tried it as a twin fin yet but will eventually. Great video on the seaside and fins
You sold this board to me and I have a 5'8 on the way this week. Can't wait. Your surfing is full of flow and a pleasure to watch. Just subscribed too 🤙
Noel... this review totally convinced me to go out and try one, and after two rides I was sold! I love my 5'8" Seaside, had a great fall getting some Jersey Shore Beach-break Barrels on it, thanks for the recommendation!
@@dunny4551 I’m 6’1 and 215lbs. Sometimes I still can’t believe I can ride a board that small, but the thing rips. Don’t often get much more than chest/head high here in New England, but even on some bigger days when I’ve chanced it, it’s felt stable at higher speeds... almost feels like ripping a skateboard on a mini ramp on waste to chest beach break lol. My daily driver is a 6’1” Pyzalien 2 XL.
@@dunny4551 I guess it breaks down to I think you'd be just fine with it since you're quite a bit lighter than me and I don't have any problems. If you're on the fence with 5'8", go an inch or so larger.
@@surfnshowreviews7777 its true mate. Only credible review out there as we can see first hand how the boards flow. Plus you are very in tune with the equipment! 🤙
Great review Noel, it's always a real pleasure to see your Show. The way you go deep with the sequence of waves analysis is really a plus. great review. as always Noel, you are the best. Cheers !
5’8” 165 lbs on the 5’5” Seaside (31L) as an intermediate surfer… fell in love all over again as a twinnie! The machado twin keels on this board are magic… I added in the 6’8” Seaside & Beyond and I feel like thats a nearly complete quiver. So much fun!
I've got the same height/weight - also intermediate. torn between getting the 5'5 or the 5'6, do you think the 5'6 would just be too much foam and volume around the chest? or would the 5'5 be just right for me? I normally like around 28 liters for shortboards, but for fishes don't mind going up a little (had the 5'5 go fish at around 29.3 liters for reference)
@@dylancuenca903 I'd just size to what you're comfortable with. If your short boards are usually 28L and that's good for you, then you may even want a 5'3 or 5'4. The 5'5 is a bit more foam than I want these days but I still love it as is
Hi Noel, I want to let you know that it was this video that really got me enamored by the Seaside. I have watched this video over and over and over countless times (is that crazy?!) and I finally picked up a 5’2” model with Rob’s quad fin set! Thank you for your attention to detail and your honest impressions. No matter what board you’re reviewing, I am amazed with the work you do. I can’t wait to try the board out tomorrow! Aloha!
@@surfnshowreviews7777 Noel, coming from 8’ and 7’ boards, this board is a new realm for me. First shortboard for me. But I think it’s a great start - the days I went out, I immediately noticed how well it floats! Was able to get a few rides with some quick turns. This board seems to have 2 personalities. Thanks again!
Hey Noel - Great Shows! I'm 41, 5'10", 155/165 lbs (Summer/Winter weight) and am looking to get a Seaside, Glazer, and a Mashup. I've always loved Rob's surfing, and have a very similar build albeit with some more lean muscle on my frame. I've recently had a right hip resurfacing and surf goofy. Level before surgery was strong intermediate->advanced, and the shortest board I'd ridden to date was my custom Rusty Piranha which was 5'10" (Clark foam). My fitness level other than recovering from hip surgery is exceptional, as teaching martial arts and wilderness survival is part of my profession. My other boards are 6'1" and 6'3" custom Rusty "Pro-Jects" (also Clark foam) from 2003 for getting back into some muddy, brown, thick-lipped barrels during nor'easter season, should my hip allow for that again. I surfed the 6'3" in some deep winter barrels wearing a 6/4, hood, gloves and booties back when I weighted 167 back in my 20s. Now I'm looking to purchase some new boards to aspire to surf once back in the water and have some fun on in milder conditions. These "new" materials and shapes seem to allow boards to be ridden significantly shorter these days. That appeals to me, as I used to Skateboard professionally and was sponsored by Supreme back in the 90's-> early '00s, and would love a skateboard type feel in the water. I'll mainly be surfing Rockaway and Long Island on the east coast, and already have my high-performance shortboards dialed in. Since they were made before things were measured in liters, I don't have a reference point concerning that metric. What sizes would you recommend for me in the Seaside, Glazer and Mashup that would offer a more skateboard-type feel, paddle well and need to be pushed less than than my Rustys to cover surfing sloppy mush->just overhead and barreling in the summer/fall season? Looking for this new quiver to be as compact as I can go, and still have fun without going nuts (down the line, carves and turns, top to bottom and some laid-back barrels). From listening to you and researching this for the last couple of weeks, I'm thinking a 5'4" in each board would make sense, but I wanted to see what you'd have to say about that. Thanks for your time - I am really learning a lot from your presentations despite having surfed since I was 8 years old. You've got a great format and clearly love what you do! -Adam.

Killer review and riding Noel. This one you have the Machado mojo going, speed power flow looks sooo smooth. Thanks for all your help and advice Noel your a star in the community we all look forward to these reviews... Legendary stoke giver :-)
Noel, absolutely love your reviews. So knowledgeable and candid and full of information. No one else does it better. Kudos!!! I just bought a 5’8” seaside and was wondering how you feel your Momentum Series (MS-N and MS-QDP) would work in the seaside.
Chees for the kind words. My fins go mental in the Seaside. Excellent performance and drive. You can get the Seaside into the lip faster and draw sharp lines with my fins
@@surfnshowreviews7777 Thanks Noel. Excited and definitely leaning towards your Momentum Series (MS-N and MS-QDP) fins vs. the Machado quads but I'm thinking I probably can't go wrong with either set in the Seaside. If I can only get one, would you lean towards your fins?
Just got my seaside. After trying a normal quad and finding it feeling really hard to turn, I put in the actual Machado quad and it works great. This board isn't a quad. It's a 2+2.
I'm sorry but this board should not be ridden in 6ft surf. Are you kidding? That's double overhead for a board that is essentially a refined Californian fish made for 2ft Malibu. Please take this out in 6 ft surf and let's see how it goes. I don't buy the marketing hype around this board and there are only a few dozen surfers on earth that could ride this in 6ft waves. They would still struggle to make it grip. It's just not made for the those kind of waves
Guys I planned on trying the AMK but ended up purchasing the Rasta’s 2 1/2 and put in the twins with the Rob M’s side bites and the board was super lively. I ended up replacing my favorite quad sets which were the Jack Freestone’s sides with the HS quad rears
figured i would add some input on this board. i am 5'10 and weigh around 195-200lbs - depends on the day lol. anyhow i purchased thw 5'8''@ 35 liters and i think it floats me very well. i think i could even have gone down to the 5'7''without any issues. i purchased the machado quads with the board and have been riding these fins with the board since i got it - maybe a year or so now? the machado fins work with the board - but the board felt like it was just a little too loose at times especially on steeper waves. yesterday and today in HB the waves were around 4-6ft and i slapped the Al merrick keel fins in with the machado quads. gotta say - i really like this combination. i didnt feel like i would slip out on turns, and it wasn't stiff at all. the board settled down a tad, and i could push really hard on the board without it feeling like it would slip out under me. would recommend anyone who is around my weight to try the merrick keels with the machado quads. i think with our weight the machado quads dont dig in as well as the merrick keels as they are a tad larger in area, height and length. the combo works well.
Amazing review - but man you're making me want to buy everything single one! Also viewers, be aware if you try to surf Trestles, you won't catch bc the place is swarming with pros like Noel! Trust me I've tried. But it's beautiful to watch for sure. I've been surfing only 3 years but pretty consistently (age 45 - weight 160 lb). Here's been my sequence of boards: 1) Wavestorm, 2) Torq 6.10 Fish (big epoxy log nearly cracked my skull open on second ride - never ridden again) 3) Liquid Shredder (went to softtop after Torq accident): 9.0 Longboard, 6'10" Mini-Mal, 5'8" Fish (Love them all still esp. the Fish with keel fins), 4) Firewire EVO 5.7 (way too much epoxy chatter on my messy local porto beachbreak, and broke into 3 pieces after one year) 5) Firewire Greedy Beaver 5.8 Timbertek - enjoying it - still trying to figure out how to ride such a narrow tail. NOW time for number 6! I'm trying to decide between Neckbeard 2 PU, Pyzel Phantom PU, and now thanks to your review, the Seaside. I'm looking to buy my first "real" performance board to challenge myself, but I do really love surfing my LS keel fin fish and your review made the Seaside look sooooo good (does Helium chatter like EPS boards?). Dammit. High class problems.
P R Yes the Helium has some chatter to it. I don’t notice it much anymore. EPS goes well for me unless it really windy and there is a lot of texture on the water surface
Thanks for the tip - I also think EPS is unforgiving if you ding it and don't repair right away - the EPS foam absorbs water and then the board starts to corrode from the inside and will buckle or break. Not sure if you agree with that. I'm defn gonna try PU Neckbeard 2 or Phantom next - and see if they hold up longer than the one year I got out of my EVO eps (that board had a small ding I missed and I think that destroyed it once water got in).
P R I agree with EPS sucking in water if you don’t fix it ASAP. There is also Extruded Foam which is a closed cell foam that will not suck in water like the Expanded Polystyrene Foam does. Check out the XTR website and the Vlog I did with Javier from Epoxy Pro. Great information there....
Hi Noel, you are the reference in review now for a lot of people, just keep going helping us. I've been surfing an EVO 30.5L and a BPotato 33L for summer-weaker waves last years and there where insane. Now I spent less time surfing and I acquired a MOONBEAM 6.0 35L that is incredible. Now is my only surfboard for 1-5 foot and very happy with it. I was thinking of buying new one. Looking at the SEASIDE 5.7, what I don't know is if the SEASIDE 5.8 or 5.7 will be very wide for me, but with the extra volume in the MB i am very happy. I live 400km away from the sea. WEEKEND warrior in the Cantabrico in Northern Spain (Normally beachbreaks), 43 years old, 67kg 1.70m. Intermediate surfer. What is your recommendation for me, and how HELIUM works in windy choppy conditions (i've been using FW Surfboards since 4-5 years ago LFT & TT)? Thanks for the help, i rally apreciate your work!!!
Roman Ortiz The HE goes ok in choppy conditions so it will struggle a little in 4-6’ surf. I suggest the smaller of the two you are considering... it paddles great and very fast. Seaside is one of my favorites for sure
I really like your reviews! I was waiting this one as much as the one for the RNF RETRO! Now I know what fish I'll buy for this summer jaja regards from El Salvador!
Noel - First, I love your reviews. They are the most in depth and professional I have found, regardless of topic. I am looking at the Seaside as my daily driver to progress my surfing. My current daily driver is a 5'8" x 2 5/8 x 21 1/4" Becker LC3 fun shape/egg that I ride Quad South of the Pier in Manhattan Beach year round. I also have a 6' Monsta Box hi fi 33 L that I have only been able to ride well in 4-5' Barbed Wires. I am 56 , 170LBs and 5'9" and surf 3-5 times a week. I consider myself an intermediate surfer looking to improve . I am thinking 5'8" or 5'9" Seaside as a daily driver and keep the JS as a step up.. wanted to get your take..? Your opinion is much appreciated!! Thank you and Keep on Ripping!
Thanks for you review. I’m looking at getting a Seaside. I’m 183 cm, about 78 kg, fit inter+ surfer. Ride a 6’0 39L DGS Compact Disc (wider outline). Contemplating whether to go for 5’8. I surf in Israel where waves are mostly mushy and weak with the occasional quality swell in the Med. Thoughts appreciated.
Love this board! Watched this review a few weeks back and ended up opting for the 5’5 (I’m 6’0, 80kgs and intermediate to advanced). It paddles well, it’s so fast down the line and turns well in the pocket for a fish. Thanks for the excellent reviews!
I'm about the same weight as you. Any regrets getting it so small? I'm on the fence on whether to get a 5'6 or 5'7....What kind of waves do you surf it on? Thanks!
i m 5.9 171 intermede and surf I mostly n Italy I'm undecided between 5.6 and 5.7 for the small day ,I use a quiver killer 5.11 31.7 lt and a lost puddle jumper 5.7 32.7 l thanks
gio mel i say 5’6” it will float like 32 liters. Next time please give me the liters of the two Seaside boards you are trying to decide from. It saves me time... I answer questions all day long.
Gio I'm an inch taller than you but the same weight. I bought one of each. I use the 5'7 more than 75% of the time since the the waves here are usually short period and in the 2-4ft range. When it's 4ft+ I use the 5'6 since it is just easier to duck dive and has less width. I also opt for the 5'6 if it is a longer period (hurricane) swell. Both fly and perform amazingly well and if I ever had to chose between the two, I'd have a hard time. The 5'7 allows me to catch when it's 2ft which I wouldn't be able to do on the 5'6, but today for example we got a nice swell from tropical storm Isaias and it was 4-6ft and slightly choppy and I didn't think twice about grabbing the 5'6 since it is easier to duck dive. The 5'6 seaside was the perfect board for today. So it really comes down to the type of waves you want it for. Hope this helps.
I've been using a 5'2 Seaside now for a few months. it's probably the fastest groveler i've had - ever. (after testing almost 50 different board models over the last few years) . confirming what Noel said: the flow and sensation of speed in small waves is unmatched. no effort needed at all. just a super fast, fun, easy glide . it's definitely more high performance than most fish types, but with the glide and flow of a classic flat bottom twin. it can do some nice rail turns and it will go vertical (nothing crazy radical), if it's not pushed too hard. it can get skatey at times, but it's part of the fun . this board makes me actually hope for waist-high surf. I'd definitely recommend it for whoever needs to get the stoke back on those groveling days..
Man I love your reviews. Love the fact that you show videos of you surfing the board instead of just babbling about how they surf. Too bad I don't surf shortboards anymore. Can someone do this with midrange and longboards?
Aloha Noel. Just wanted to add that I rode the Seaside with both the Machado Quads and the Controllers (Futures) For me as a bigger guy (200 lbs) i found the Controllers really helped settle the board down and give more drive. For me the Machado quads when its small and when its better( shoulder high and above) the controllers are a great option. Going to try other setups like the AM 2 Quads like you recommended. Keep up the great reviews!!!
what up big brother - i am around the same weigh as you - 195-200lbs - and have been riding the machado quads since i bought the board. the board is a little loose by design especially with the machado quads. the SW swell here in HB the past few days we have seen 4-6 ft waves. i decided to throw in the al merrick keel fins with the machado quads to see if i could settle the board down. i gotta say -- i really like this combination. us heavier guys push a littler harder just because we have the weight -- with the machado quad side fins - i always had to watch how hard i turned because it would feel like i could slip out. with the merrick keels and machado quads i could seriously push as hard as i could and it never slipped - and had a ton of drive. super stable fin set up!
How does the seaside handle in crappy everyday beach break? Most days in so cal are windy and choppy by the time I get off work. So need a groveler that I can get the most out of. Any board will go great at points I stay away from point breaks only because I choose not to deal with the overwhelming crowds. So 1 to 4 foot , sectiony, one maneuver, beach breaks are my reality. I hear that this board won't handle the chop. Anyone have any knowledge on this matter? Any help would be appreciated.
I think a wood ruler is easier on the glass job. Nice little roundhouse 360 at 11:44. I don't understand why the move is called 'reverse',… it's a 360.
I never thought about that on my front side... your right it should be called a round house 360. Backside it would be called a round house reverse because the spin is counter clockwise.
Sick board, great in depth review. You're killing it man. I'm 5'7" and 165lbs, picking up a 5'3" for gulf coast pitchy beach break. You definately talked me into it, not that I needed haha.
Hi Noel, thank you for the great review! I picked up a 5'6 Seaside from my local shop a few days ago, but after reading your reviews I think I may have oversized it. I am about 5'8 and 175lbs and an intermediate. Learning to do cutbacks and turns at the moment. I live in Florida where we basically only surf 1-3ft mush. Just want to see what you thought about it before I gave it go to potentially swap it out. Thanks again!
Your reviews are on point, even though you are way better than I am I am able to see what each board is capable of. I purchased a Seaside yesterday and through in fins I owned and had a blast. I can't wait to get some of the AM quads or the Machado quads to test out. Maybe I'll see you at Trestles some day. :)
Thank you Noel. What an awesome review. I think this board ROCKS:) "If you're looking at donating it to some one I'd gladly take it" ☺🤣 Fire wire is a great design. Once more epic information & opening up the in's & out's of the seaside.
Got this board two weeks ago don’t know why it took so long but rob knows what he’s doing riding it 5’2 feels so drivey and fast but it’ll release when u want it too next board on my watch list is the glazer!
Noel while this does HP better, I might be imagining it but I reckon between your review on the go fish and the seaside you've developed a lot more flow in your surfing. Maybe the Board meeting you in the middle let you flow better even though you prefer snappy HP styling.
Dan Micklethwaite I think surfing Twin Fins like the Go Gish helped me learn to surf with more flow. The Seaside and Go Fish and boards like them surf best when I don’t force them on rail...
@@Stomperproductions No real comparison… the Seaside is a performance fish and the FE surfs like a HPSB. The FE out performs the Seaside top to bottom even as a twin fin.
Great channel! Love the in-depth explainations. Looking at picking up a seaside and stuck between a 5’9 or 5’10. I am replacing my Podmod at 35L and I already have a groveler so I want to use this when I have clean-ish 3-4’ conditions (In Florida where it doesn’t get powerful too often). I’m 6’3 185 and speed means more to me than going vertical. Thanks for any input! Cheers
Hey Noel good review, I went with a 5”9 I’m 86 kg , bought a Machado futures keel twin, only surfed once incredibly go fun . Keen to grad Machado quad set . Next level. Can’t wait to get back in the water
I’m 5’10” and 200 pounds, intermediate surfer and surf a couple times a week. I went with the 5’11” seaside at 41.1L. Honestly the board is a blast, but I think I went a size too big. The board feels stiff with the Machado quads, especially going backside. Hoping to find a 5’10” and sell the 5’11”
I tried with performance quads and it helped a bit, but not enough. I’m gonna size down. Do you think 1 size down is enough? Or go down to the 5’9”? I truly love this board, but want to get better top to bottom. Thanks for the time!
Best surfboard reviews ever. And consistent. Also, salas is a very good surfer. Many thanks! Did you ever do a review on the Firewire Taj model? I'd like the link...
Hey Noel I am 5'11" and 170lbs. I have a lost PJ 5.5 -- 31.44CL (PU) that I love, and I am looking at the Seaside at 5'4" 29.8 L or 5'5" 31.5L. Because of the EPS, i am thinking the 5.4 as the extra float gets me up more around the feel of a 30ish CL board. I am in good shape and surf often. I surf local around here Pink House, Creek mostly, and sometimes Barbed Wires, Cottons or Uppers. What do you think? Thanks for all of the great info and reviews! Keep it up!
C S I think the 5’4” will go fine but if it’s going to float like 30.3 liters you are going to loose about 1 liter in volume compared to your PJ. We are wearing a bit more rubber with winter here so that 5’5” isn’t sounding so bad. For your height the 5’5” might be a better call in smaller gutless waves. The 5’5” is still 6” shorter then you are so it should turn like a skateboard. I say 5’5” with a 4/3mm suit on. Cheers
Hi Noel, really great review. I’m a bit of a difficult fit for boards. • 5’ 7” in height, 175 lb, intermediate ability and 30 years of surfing experience. In pretty decent physical shape (exercise daily), but I’m a very stocky build so quite heavy for my height. Due to stockiness, I’m kind of a weaker paddler. Lately, I’ve been riding a Xanadu Pig 6’0 at 32 liters. It paddles great, but feels a bit large for my height. What length would you recommend? I was thinking 5’ 7” which is same height as myself? Or is that too long for this type of shape?
I'm struggling to work out if I want the seaside, mashup or the Revo. Really wana try a firewire board out. I'm leaning more towards seaside or Revo. Anyone got any ideas
Hi Noel great surfing and review how do you think a 5.2 would perform for lighter surfers being the smallest size they make , im 64 kg usely surf 23 to 25 lts, thanks Steve
Stephen I have the same issue I weigh about the same, and from my experience these epoxy boards are going to be way too floaty if its not in your normal volume - for me its around 24.5 - 25.5 liters - if I go beyond that, the epoxy board starts to feel like a boat under my feet with the extra buoyancy.
Seen the video, fell in love with the board, bougth the board, caugth the corona without testing it. Going crazy! I just need now to know what music is that of the video. Greetings from Portugal! Thanks for your asewome reviews and instructional videos!
Great review!! Really appreciated that you tried the twin fin set up. I have the CI keels on my CI fish and I m gonna buy a seaside… let s see if I can get the same feeling 🤙
Noel! I Bought the seaside a while back after seeing this review several times - it’s now become my Favorite board, I’m obsessed with it! I need another board, If you had to choose one daily driver, nb2 or phantom? Or something else? 🤔
88jonpaul Your on the right track... NB2 and Phantom are insane. The Phantom is easier to surf but the NB2 offers more performance. Phantom paddles better and has more flow. Up to you now.
Hi Noel, thank you for your advice ..I have taken a psycho killer in 5.11 20 1/4 2/56 33.5l and a bonzer biscuit in 5.8 20 1/4 2 3/4 in 35.9 l and it's perfect! ! the sizes that you advised me are perfect .... I would like to order seaside firewire ... but I hesitate between ĺa 5.7 and 5.8? I am 84 kilos and 1m86 ... again thanks and any beautiful video ..bravo
noutsmaile Use your Biscuit Bonzer as a guide in volume to get your Seaside volume right. They both paddle about the same with foam distribution. Obviously they don’t shred the same... and the tail on the Seaside is tapered down a lot more so it will be more responsive.
Hey Neil’ thanks for the vid mate!’ Just trying to select size! I’m 6 ft 6 and 90 kg, intermediate surfer. My shorty is 6 ft 6 psycho killer. It has 43 litres! It paddles easy for me and it’s enjoyable! Would you say 6.1 will be to big to throw around and opt for the 6.0 or go the 6.1 and still be able to turn it well and surf it on bigger waves? Cheers mate! Really appreciate it
CFS Health 1” in length isn’t going to make as much difference as the extra foam in the 6’1”. The 6’1” could be very corky and hard to sink the rail on your turns when your surfing 4-6’ surf
Hi Noel, awesome videos and great surfing! Love how you actually surf the boards and comment on how a board performance on a specific wave or section and why, that makes all the difference! Quick question. Love the look of this board, but I already have a Pyzel Phantom in slightly higher volume than my hpsb (about 0.5L more) which works great in waist / shoulder high and up. My local is a pretty hollow beach break, even when small. In your opinion, would a board like the Seaside add anything to my quiver?
Jan The Seaside is really fast and it would be fun to ride in some small barrels. I like a really short board in the barrel so you can maneuver it quickly and pump easy. I think a shorter board will fit better in the hook on small hollow surf too... the Phantom might be a little long in 1-2’ hollow waves.
Hey Noel - loved the review. I am looking at replacing my 4yr old 5'8' seaside due to damage and was wondering if I should go a size larger (5'9") as I am now a little older and fatter/heavier. Would there be any drawbacks with going one size up other than the obvious more foam?
hi Noel, thanks for the great review. I'm going to buy a seaside, need some help choosing the right board size 5'3'' or 5'4''. I'm 165cm 65kg (around 5'4'' tall and 143 lbs) and my only board is a sci-fi 5'8'' 27.7 L (with medium FCS II performance quad fins). I'm intermediate level and want to surf 1-3 ft waves. I live in AU/NZ so half of the year I'm wearing a 3/2mm wetsuit. Thoughts? Would same quad fins work with the seaside? thanks heaps
Hi Noel, love your reviews and I just picked up the 5'7 seaside in the new helium 2 construction based on your review. After reading your comments here, it seems like the helium adds .5 volume to the seaside. I'm 34, 6'0, and hover around 190lbs. I've been surfing for close to 20 years - intermediate (catch waves with ease, pump down the line, critical turns). I'm concerned the 5'7 at 33.6 liters is too much volume as it'd feel more like 34L. I love surfing smaller boards and especially being in Florida where the waves don't have too much power I want that loose skateboard feel. Haven't gotten it in the water yet and hoping it doesn't feel like a boat! Do you think there would be a big difference in the 5'7 vs the 5'5? Is the added volume going to make turning harder? From personal experience and board testing, I know 30L is too little for me and 35L is too much. Thanks for your advice!
The 5’7” is money for your weight n height. It will have a bit more float…. However you will turn it quickly due to it being shorter for your height. It will be skatey for you.
Thank god… I just picked up the 5’7 seaside in Caparica, Portugal. I was reading the comments nervous that I was going to find something saying it was too small or too large. Turns out it’s just right 😅 I’m 6’1 180-190lbs
Noel, I ride a CIS Pod Mod and that is my favorite board. I have tried a bunch of other boards but always seem to go back to the Pod Mod. How would you compare the Seaside to the Pod Mod. I was at a surf shop and they had the spine tech version of the Pod Mod and it felt better than the EPS one I have. What do you think of Spine tech vs Helium?
Surfdocsteve The PM is legit and it would be insane in Spinetek!!! The Seaside is a performance fish and has a bit more speed compared to the PM. The PM pivots and turns a little more vertical in the pocket. The HE Technology is more durable and lighter compared to Spinetek. They are both Sick and have amazing flex and pop in your turns. If your looking for Thruster performance then go PM Spinetek, if you want a performance fish with warp speed then go Seaside!
David Pham The Cymatic is aDaily Driver and surfs more like a HPSB for 3-6+. The Seaside is a Quad Fish with a performance feel for 1-6’ surf. Really hard to compare these two boards in my book. If your looking for a fun board then go with the Seaside. If you want performance in the pocket then go Cymatic.
@@surfnshowreviews7777 Thanks Noel, my only other firewire is a tomo SKX bought after your review, which I find requires a larger wave face and likes a wave that's drawing clean water. We get a lot of winter high tides in Santa Cruz in the mornings where the waves are more slopey with the occasional steep section, from your review it seems like both can carry speed in sections that get a little fat. So I guess it comes down to a feel thing. Thanks for the advice.
Another informative review, I own a rocket wide, Holy Grail, and a pod mod thanks to your reviews. My question is how does the seaside compare to the mod pod. I ask because I don’t want double up on boards which are too similar. Thanking you Clint
Clinton Flavell Sounds like you have a solid quiver going!!! The Seaside is a HP Fish and none of the boards you have will ride like it. It draws different lines but extremely fast and you can still do Performance surfing. The PM is a Thruster that shreds in the pocket of small waves. The PM & Seaside surf completely different but they both Grovel good.
Great, thanks for the feed back Noel. The seaside will be added to my surf n show quiver. Anyone else out there care to share there surf n show quiver haha
@@clintonflavell6548 I'll go...5'9" Fever...5'6" Holy Grail...5'5" Rocket Wide...5'2" Lost RNF Retro... Dream quiver for sure. Perfect for SoCal waves of San Diego. Peace.
Nice quiver Gilbert, we surf the same litres. Almost mirrors my surfnshow line up. I don’t have a step up from my Holy Grail but probably need one as we get a couple of cyclone swells here on the Goldcoast Australia per year.. How does the fever go ?
@@clintonflavell6548 Man, would love to surf the Gold Coast one day...with the rest of the world. right? lol. I'm in San Diego and I'm pretty much on my shorter boards (HG, RNF, RW) 90% of the time. That being said...The Fever is an amazing board. I have ridden it in 8 foot solid surf and felt more than confident. It surprisingly goes really good in smaller stuff too. I think you would love it in those punchy beach breaks you guys have around there. I gotta say...I'm having a ton of fun on the RNF Retro and can't seem to get off it. It's like a little skate machine. So many great choices for all of us. It's good and bad that I live so close to Noel. He's draining my account way to fast. lol. Keep ripping brother.
The rails of my seaside helium 2 look pretty bad after a few sessions. The upper layer of glassing is kind of peeling off, even at the bottom.Doesn‘t look new at all anymore.Does anybody have similar problems with helium 2? FireWire told me it‘s a production fault. Got the money back, wanna buy it again cause I loved the board, but little scared to have the same issues again. Thanks for your comments
I know someone that surfs the machado quads with just the fronts as a twin. Loves it, says its way looser than with the rears in and super fast. They are huge at 21 sq" area. Same size as mist twins like the T1 at 19.8 the AMT at 20.4 or the mayhem evil twin at 21.2. The machado quad setup is more of a Twin plus two trailers than it is a quad set.
Hi Noel! First of all I’d like to say that I love your reviews. I write you because Im thinking on buying a seaside. To give you a bit more of information, im from spain, from the mediterranean side. Here waves are usually very small and flat. I already have a sci fi for travelling or for when we have “good” waves at home. I just sold muy lib tech puddle jumper 5’5 30L. And was looking for something similar maybe a bit more perfomance and some less litres as im 65kg. Was thinking on a seaside 5’3. Also an option is a dhd mini twin2 but there inst yet any review about this board. What do you think?
Thanks Noel. Great review. I surfed mine this weekend in about chest to head high huntington pier, on shore slop. Could not believe how well it turns in the pocket. Truly amazing how the Machado Fins work with it. I have the K3 twins and the EN Fins. Which do you think would work better as a twin? The only twin I’ve ever ridden is the GoFish
Maurice Cureton Sick thanks for posting your experience in HB slop. I like a Twin Fin set up with a bit more rake in it because I want to tighten it up a bit. Sometimes Twin Fins can be too skatey and slide a bunch so more rake and a fin with more depth will tone it down a bit and give me more traction. At this point I say try what you have in Twin Fins and see what you like better. Cheers
I'm 6'3, 85kgs. I have a 5'7 and such a fun small wave board. I personally only use it 1-3ft. Feels to loose above that. Only had the quads in so far, but might try some twinnies.
What would you recommend for 5’5 155. Looking at 5’2. I usually ride a 5’7 performance board but being in Florida the majority of our surf is 1-6 feet so idk if I need an inch more for float.
J T Get the volume close to your Groveler DIMS. If your a advanced surfer then 5’2” is good. I wouldn’t be too concerned about length... unless your super tall.. like 6’2”. Then the 5’2” will look really short for you.
This guy is so competent in how he explains the board its amazing
Watching Noel surf is straight up inspiring and gets me psyched to go surfing!!!
Tom 5.0 Sick... thanks for posting
Tom 5.0 I’m 6 foot 180. Think I should go for the 5’10” ? I’m catching decent waves but not a ton of surfing under my belt
@@Tom-jd4hk Thanks man I really appreciate it !!
Good to know I am your same size was thinking 5'4 thanks for the confirmation now I just need to start making money again so that l can get one. Saludos from Bocas Del Toro.
Thanks for the review. I have this board set up as a QUAD and it is super super fast , light and just an amazing board. Welldone ROB. Its a WINNER !!!
How much do yoy weigh? What size is your seaside?
I just got my Seaside. Its the best shortboard I have ever ridden. I'm 50 yo and I feel like I'm young with this magic under my feet!
Never clicked on a UA-cam video so quick. Loves these reviews
Nick Hewett Excellent post... stoked you found a nugget.
I just tried this board as a twin fin with the machado keels in 4 ft waves. Such a fun board. Thanks for the review Noel.
I wish board wars was still on, Rocket Wide vs Dominator 2, seaside vs glazer just to name a few
Cheers!
Okay I'm getting one I'm 6'2 and 196 gonna get one

Using futures or FCS2?

What height and weight are you out of curiosity?
You've got a great format and clearly love what you do!

figured i would add some input on this board. i am 5'10 and weigh around 195-200lbs - depends on the day lol. anyhow i purchased thw 5'8''@ 35 liters and i think it floats me very well. i think i could even have gone down to the 5'7''without any issues. i purchased the machado quads with the board and have been riding these fins with the board since i got it - maybe a year or so now? the machado fins work with the board - but the board felt like it was just a little too loose at times especially on steeper waves. yesterday and today in HB the waves were around 4-6ft and i slapped the Al merrick keel fins in with the machado quads. gotta say - i really like this combination. i didnt feel like i would slip out on turns, and it wasn't stiff at all. the board settled down a tad, and i could push really hard on the board without it feeling like it would slip out under me. would recommend anyone who is around my weight to try the merrick keels with the machado quads. i think with our weight the machado quads dont dig in as well as the merrick keels as they are a tad larger in area, height and length. the combo works well.

This guy is good. Always great and informative reviews

Thanks!
@@benjaminm5232 - me too, I'm 80kgs and was thinking of the 5'7 just to give me a couple more litres more than my normal boards...
i m 5.9 171 intermede and surf I mostly n Italy I'm undecided between 5.6 and 5.7 for the small day ,I use a quiver killer 5.11 31.7 lt and a lost puddle jumper 5.7 32.7 l thanks
gio mel i say 5’6” it will float like 32 liters.
Awesome review Noel as always!.....I'm super keen on this Seaside, looks like a fun addition to anyone's board collection.
Rome Agreed!!! Fun
I've been using a 5'2 Seaside now for a few months.
it's probably the fastest groveler i've had - ever.
(after testing almost 50 different board models over the last few years)
.
confirming what Noel said: the flow and sensation of speed in small waves is unmatched.
no effort needed at all. just a super fast, fun, easy glide
.
it's definitely more high performance than most fish types, but with the glide and flow of a classic flat bottom twin.
it can do some nice rail turns and it will go vertical (nothing crazy radical), if it's not pushed too hard.
it can get skatey at times, but it's part of the fun
.
this board makes me actually hope for waist-high surf.
I'd definitely recommend it for whoever needs to get the stoke back on those groveling days..

Keep up the great reviews!!!
surfdog306 Excellent... thanks for posting
what up big brother - i am around the same weigh as you - 195-200lbs - and have been riding the machado quads since i bought the board. the board is a little loose by design especially with the machado quads. the SW swell here in HB the past few days we have seen 4-6 ft waves. i decided to throw in the al merrick keel fins with the machado quads to see if i could settle the board down. i gotta say -- i really like this combination. us heavier guys push a littler harder just because we have the weight -- with the machado quad side fins - i always had to watch how hard i turned because it would feel like i could slip out. with the merrick keels and machado quads i could seriously push as hard as i could and it never slipped - and had a ton of drive. super stable fin set up!
Bon Summers It’s a reverse 360 because I spin it counter clockwise.
I never thought about that on my front side... your right it should be called a round house 360. Backside it would be called a round house reverse because the spin is counter clockwise.
Forget back or front side. A spin is regular or reverse considering if you start it towards the face of the wave or away from it
79pejeperro interesting...

@@surfnshowreviews7777 how does this comment compare on the SD Flat Earth that is a twin?? (i.e. SS vs FE?)
Put in a performance Quad set. It will loosen it up a bit
I tried with performance quads and it helped a bit, but not enough. I’m gonna size down. Do you think 1 size down is enough? Or go down to the 5’9”? I truly love this board, but want to get better top to bottom. Thanks for the time!

Cheers
Great review! Im 82kg and 1.88m. Often surfing 0-2 fit waves. What size should i take this board?
Here are some volume ranges to consider at your weight.
Pro/Exp = 29-31L
Advanced = 31-33L
Intermediate = 34-36L
Eugene Sung I think 31-33 liters is a good range for you. I say 5’6” at 32.7
I'm struggling to work out if I want the seaside, mashup or the Revo.
Stephen Chard it might be ok... I would hate to see you get it and it feel way to big.

CFS Health I would go 6’0”.
Surf n Show Reviews thanks mate! You don’t think the 6.0 will be too short for me with my height?

Would there be any drawbacks with going one size up other than the obvious more foam?

igor Your liter range should be 28-29 liters.

Wish they did these boards in bigger longer dims and volume for us big guys 7x23x3 would b perfect as always another great review noel keep it up
how much do you weigh? I'm 215 and about to pick up the 5'8"...
Hey Noel, I was about to pull the trigger on a 5'3 Cymatic, but just saw this review. If you could only get one, which would it be and why?
David Pham I would get something wide and with less rocker for those high tide days.
This is a good channel. Great discription of boards. And great surfing. I can see the diffrence in. The surfing on different boards.

Mine still looks brand new after a fee years, so prob just a defect in that one.
Must-get-one-immediately!
Can I use the Machado quad fronts as twin fin? Looks like they have quiet a big surface area?
I don’t think they will hold very good… especially not backside
What do you think?
luisillo123456 Seaside all the way... one of the funnest boards for sure!! 5’3” sounds good for your weight too.
Noel , great review. Always enjoy them. Looking at buying this board myself.
Sean Denney Cheers!! This Seaside is next level speed and fun. Get one... you won’t be sorry
Cheers
Maurice, what are your dims and what size did you get?
Surf n Show Reviews thank you!
Thank you, your reviews are fantastic
