they are sponsored by the norwegian state, both band and choir are national state, we really love all culture over here;)
The orchestra is employed by Norwegian public radio and financed by the government. If it's a joint venture I guess they doesn't have to pay for the orchestra and choir. Dimmu Borgir has been nominated for several Norwegian Grammys and got some I believe.
Yes, and the idea for the concert came from a journalist in NRK too, and the recording and production from this concert is made by NRK for a TV-concert, which they showed first time in 2011.
You should devinitely listen to the ones with Vortex on clean vocals... this whole orchestra isnt even close to what one man can do

Fun fact about this band and where they actually got their name from. Dimmu Borgir in icelandic "the dark city" or "the dark castles" is a large area east of Myvatn on northern iceland. Here are lots of caves and rockformations as a result of volcanic activity, and according to Icelandic folklore Dimmu Borgir is the entrance to hell.

It all started with stave churches burning in the early 1990s (varg vikernes) since then this is what Norway is known for, but it goes much deeper into Norse mythology than that.
