We cant live without our precious pooches.
Looking good. Nice work. Just a tip for those viewing. Just do not let it over heat... keep moving slowly like he is... never Sit in one spot or hit edges dry...
Don’t know if you will see this or not cause you made this video 4 yrs ago but I have been eating a lot of camper restoration videos and yours sure looks a whole lot simplier than the others. Thanks a lot. Will be checking out your other videos for any other ideas you may have. Thanks again.
Thank you for sharing your experience in such a no BS way.
Russ looks real good!!!!
Thanks Russ for this informative video. Just bought a fibreglass travel trailer myself, and although it's in good shape, it does need a little lovin' like what you just did. This will be more than helpful. Cheers!
I love hearing how powerful the dewalt buffer is
Got your work out using that big buffer. No need to go to a gym and lift any weights. Glad Scoobs is in the pink.
Nice job, Russ.
Now I will tell you how to remove oxidation.
Tsp or trisodium phosphate. Or Comet.
And a broom made for scrubbing floors.
It removes the top layer of paint or as you call it. Oxidation.
Ultimate one !!!!👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌
Good info Russ, I need to do my RV.
Breeze looks really shiny now!!! ✴ Good job there Russ. Give my Scoobers a hug from me.
good job Russ i Just did my truck it took some paint off lol
I'm a ZAP man myself. Looks good, Russ. Isn't it funny after you're done, your arms twitch when you try to drink a glass of water. haha
per my Vet I give my old dog a low dose 81 mg aspirin for arthritis pain every morning.
Awesome Skills Russ !
EXCELLENT DEIVERY ! I LIKE YOUR STYLE !!
Hi Russ, I am a subscriber and I just viewed this old video of yours...very informative..I see you have, or had, a mountain aire by Newmar. I just bought a used 2004 Kountry Star, the next model down from yours. I am excited to clean it up a bit and bring it to SoCal this winter! Let me know if u still have yours and what year it is..
thanks for the tip. i have this same buffer
russ, i wish i woulda seen your video before!!! i bought 3m super duty compound, and a buffer, and a wool pad...
I'm headed outside now to attempt to remove the oxidation from my rv... I'll take a before and after pic. wish me luck!!! I'm gunna meed it!!!
(I'm jackie the stalkers friend @ quail run rv park in quartzsite, az)
You sound so enthused; about like me when I need to paint the house. I bet you're sick of doing this. Thanks for the tips and demo.
I was told that the framing around the slides are not a painted surface. How do I clean and restore them. They are faded badly. love your tips
Would this be something I should do before painting the exterior of my motor home? There are lots of pock marks also. What could I use to fill them for smooth surface again?
With the rite products you can restore the decals.
Urban Edge Auto Detailing those decals are cracked... you can make em brighter but those are done...
Can't thank you enough for that video. My coach is all fibreglass & needs this done & now I know how to. Don't think I could use anything that heavy but may be something lighter? Can you clear coat right away? What do you use for that? A liquid wax?
I have black spots on my white gel coat cant get it off i did wet sanded and buff
Looking good Russ!
Russell thanks for the education! I do have one question: I have a marble table with years of buildup, could I use one of those B&D polishers for cleaning my marble table?? Thanks
Can you compound decals or wet sand them?
Looks good, Now i should do mine...LOL. thanks for sharing.
Looks great. I have tried to buff/polish my 5th wheel. It's a 40 ft. I have used the little sponge pads. Not much luck. What /where do I get a dewalt buffer. A specific kind and how about the wool pads? How much time spent on an area? Don't want to ruin gel coat
Hi there! What product(s) would you recommend for removing the yellowing that occurs on fiberglass? I removed and replaced some of the decals on our coach and found the gel coat underneath was bright white while the surround areas were yellow. p.s. I had a RV detail shop put “Fiberglass sealer” on the coach about 2 years ago and it now looks horrible. Patchy and dull where it’s starting to wear off. Don’t think that’s the cause of the yellowing as I contacted the manufacturer who said their product doesn’t discolor.
Looking good my friend
thank you J
Looking good Russ, Remember to take some water breaks man.
more like wheelchair and oxygen breaks at my age... haha
Too Funny, I hear ya Russ...I hear ya'
Scoobs good to see ya ...scratch, scratch, ✌💖🎼🎶🎵
It looks really good. I think ours will need a good buffing when, ummm, if we ever get her back from the repair shop. Just had a couple warranty things to get fixed and it's been there for 2 months!
My son has a boat he has restored. He has worked like crazy to bring the shine back to it. The top of the bow has that thick clear part with glitter underneath. It looks great when it's wet, but when it dries, it's cloudy. You can't see the glitter or color under there. Any thoughts of what to do there? He has buffed, but not sure if he used wool or not. Thanks for the video!
How old is Scoobie? Glad she's (he's) doing better. Glad you're cleaning that RV and not me. Breeze would just have to stay dirty if the hose didn't do it.
scoobs is 15
That's something I need to do to my Coach. have you ever used Zepp wet floor polish to detail. They use it a lot in Florida on Boats and RV's. I thought about trying that
i have known people that have used floor wax... its a cheap fix or
trick to make fiberglass shine....all floor wax breaks down and will
yellow over time.... there are "real" clear coat products to use for
fiberglass and work well
As the guy who designed that DeWalt; the speed for cutting should be 600-800 rpm max (unless your pad is perfectly balanced and in a large area)
Turtle wax is, um... Not great. Compound is WAY more than just a "liquid to lubricate the pad"
I love your vid for how it was done but as far as the how-to part, I'll just say, many ways to skin a cat.
So I put a RV cover on my RV over
the winter. In the spring I noticed rub marks on the fibreglass nose cap. I tried a oxidation removal product. But the rub marks soon shone through. How aggressive can I get while trying to polish these rib marks out. Light rubbing compound?
I have a Keystone Bullet trailer camper and the front under the clear coat is clouding up (Blushing ) how do I fix it ?
Russ, I have a big Fifthwheel RV and it's looking pretty nasty with the oxidation. I'm regretting getting this RV now because it's to hard to keep it up. My question is when buffing do you have to change out the wool pad or just leave it on until you've removed all the oxidation? Ant info. Or tips that you can give me will be truly appreciated. Thanks. By the way, my Fifthwheel is a 36 foot Titanium made in Canada by Douglas RV. They have been outta business for some years now....
You definitely want to be cleaning your wool pad often to rid it of buildup....you can use a spur looking tool or a screwdriver will also do the trick
Cool! I didn't know you had a detailing biz! Meeeee too! I have that exact same buffer! I LOVE my Dewalt. I told Bart as long as I had that buffer we would never go hungry lol. Beautiful job there Pro! I am so happy to see Scooby is feeling a little better. Yayyyy! How old is she? if it's ok to ask..
How much wax do you put on the wool pad? How do you clean your pad
I just bought an old motorhome with aluminum frame and is quite yellow. Would this method help? I would really like to keep the old paint and just brighten it if possible
yes it will help. be sure to clean the surface really good before buffing
@@rvertv thank you for your response!
@@rvertv could you share what materials I should use? Like compound product, shining product, wax for sealing? Thank you in advance!
Is that the same process as yellowing
Do you have any videos of applying a polish to a gelcoat rv?
At 5
;50, you say you will polish it in a few days, but didn't the Turtle Wax suffice?
gee... wonder what kind of compound was used.
I have substantial drip stains from the roof on down on my small 15 year old fiberglass RV. I just bought a Dewalt buffer and wonder if I need to do more than a good wash before I get to the buffing.
Max Mayhem I’m just lurking here... waxing and polishing will remove the black streaks washing will not... there is black streak remover you can use first if you want. But waxing will remove ...
What sealer do you use to prevent further oxidation
I just finished buffing out oxidation on my RV. Took me 4 weeks. But I was told (and I used) to use a foam buffing pad. I had some synthetic wool pads that didn't work as well as the foam pads. I never tried real wool pads.
So in your experience, have you tried the coarse 3M foam pads and compared them to wool? I will get a real wool pad if it will make a difference. Thanks.
the course might leave scratches. get one and test a snall area. its not easy to remove oxidation. i had the most luck with wool and you can machine wash the pads for reuse
@@rvertv Thanks but I think you misunderstood my question. I wanted to know if you have ever used the foam pads and if they are better or worse than the REAL wool pads, plus, is there a difference between real wool and synthetic wool pads.
Real good video.
What polish would you use on the fiberglass?
it varies.... Mquiers has a good RV wax
Will a Da and wool pad remove oxidation?
no, for boats and rvs you need a rotary machine. the DA is only used for wax and polish as the second step.
I am having trouble finding those wool pads you use. Can you suggest a place to purchase them? Thank you
auto detailer supply places... www.autogeek.net/bupo.html
Thanks.
The Dewalt weighs less then 7 lbs
Urban Edge Auto Detailing not... about 14 even though they claim its 7....
Hi Russ! What's a good spray on wipe off wax that's safe on fiberglass? Thanks!
Mequier's has some spray wax for boats and rv's
If our fiberglass shell is chalky to the touch, and a faded yellow, will this help?
yes it will help quite a bit... clean the buffing pad often and go slow
My friend, I am never one to post a negative comment. However, in this case your instructions regarding buffing are 100% incorrect and could result in someone damaging their fiberglass. I didn't watch the whole video but there was 2 completely wrong comments. First, you should never use a wax with a wool bonnet. It absolutely is not the same thing as a compound, which contains various levels of micro abrasives depending on the product. Using wax with the a high speed wool buffer will never result in a proper finish because the powdery residue from the dried wax will just mar the finish and possibly be driven deep into the porous fiberglass surface. And secondly, YOU NEVER EVER EVER keep the wool bonnet completely flat when buffing. It produces too much heat and will always result in a terrible finish with holograms and swirls at the very least. With wool, you always buff with only the leading edge touching the surface. Only a foam pad should be flat. But good luck to you. I admire your enthusiasm to help folks out but you really gotta make sure you're providing correct information with some things.
Mine was so neglected I had a wet sand and then buff it, talk about a pain in the ass
