When putting roller or ball bearings on a shaft, try putting the bearings in a plastic bag and in a freezer for a few hours. When you take them out of the freezer, the inner bearing race will contract enough to just slide them onto the shaft without having to hammer them in. Great video!
Very clear & educational video which has taught me a lot. When you see other videos on the net showing tanks that have exploded with rust on the inside, I think you are very wise not to push it to its maximum pressure.
Thanks
Although he's doing a few mistakes, The guy is eager, and willing. He'll do well over time
What mistake!
Pratik Rathid he didn’t do a hydrostatic test on the tank. I can’t even imagine how much rust is in it.
@@pratikrathid3261 never hit the bearing on the outer race when installing on a shaft, always the inner race for shaft or outer race for case and preferably pressing better than whacking.
Hammering the wrist pins out makes baby Jesus cry
Luke Anderson so did hammering on that new bearing like that 😬
@TheJR1948 THANK YOU! I thought I was the only one to notice...
I like everything about this except for two things. You painted sealing surfaces on the pump and you doused your plants in deisel. Other than that, a tremendous improvement.
I loved hearing the adhan in the background
Lucky the tank didnt explode
Didnt even check to see if there was any water in the tank it could of been rusted through
I'm surprised he didn't hydro test first thing. It would suck to put in all that effort on a bad tank, or worse have it rupture under pressure.
Parabéns,ótima restauração,perfeita.
Will be cool to see you do more restorations using this aircompressor you restored.
Yes bro I will do
Owww PAIN REMOVER, i'll drink some of that!
haha yea i loved that as well
Well done!
Remember
1. Do not paint surfaces under sealings
2. Do not install bearings like in this video
1. You can under if you have a proper ventilated enclosed setup with fans and filters. This would be better than outdoors because it would be free of dust and wind. But unless you have a paint booth setup, it ought to be done outdoors on a good day.
2. Hammering on the outer ring on a bearing is a good way to damage it. I find the best way to install a bearing is to use a deep socket or metal pipe that fits perfectly over the shaft and sits on the inner ring. Then you can either hammer it or use a press.
3. I wouldn’t be too hard on the guy. He did a lot of things correctly for the most part, and sure there were a few head scratching moments. As an engineer and mechanic, sometimes you’ve got to use what you’ve got to complete a project to the best of your abilities.
3. don´t paint the heat exchanging parts :)
4. don´t place the piston rings openings facing to the same side
5. Check the tank from inside because of rust
6. If it works, don´t give a shit ... well done
@@Omegadoomship Both of you are forgot the 120 degree angle between piston rings gaps and disaligning piston rings gaps with geometrical axles of piston pin. And, IMHO, compressor oil is not optimal solution for the compressors with oil sump. My 2 piston 400l/min compressor is running with 5w40 API SN motor oil, such as i use in my car.
This dude smashed em, it's like not changing them
@@WhiteWingsGarage i don't like at all how he " repeared" the engine, old pistons, he hit the rod with the hammer, bearings smashed with the hammer too, and all the other stuff
Good job my friend for giving me something to watch at 3 am. 😂😂 but still good job
Overall you did a very good job restoring this compressor although some work method are not ideal but acceptable ... enjoy watching your work very much...
Thanks bro and I think you are talking about bearing installing.
So beautiful video
Great job and the steps by steps of video, work, and cost. Thanks for sharing JazakAllah
If "I know a guy that can do it cheaper" had a UA-cam channel...
💯🏅🏅🏅🏅ماشاء الله تبارك الله
ممتاز جداً
Best work and good skill
Fine work my friend
Isnt 166$ too expensive for a rusty, not running compressor ?
Yes
Well it looks like it’s a big capacity 4hp industrial air compressor they go new for like 300 to almost 700 or more and that’s euro’s
Depends on in which country you live. Could imagine that in India you dont have to complain about such a price because of what is available there. Maybe its the cheapest 4HP compressor he could find (better then nothing)
Most certainly, but I guess that price could vary widely depending on region. You could pick up a small compressor like that around here new for 250-300 USD. If you searched craigslist or Facebook, you could find one for next to nothing or trade. Hell I've seen folk give them away if a part breaks or they bought a new one, either give it to someone who asks or put it by the road with a 'Free" sign on it. 2$/kg is almost like buying scrap, but the heaviest thing on that is the motor and compressor, take those off and that tank would probably weigh 20 pounds or less.
For 200$ you can get 4hp new compressor
All those air compressors in the yard screaming, "Pick me! Pick me!"
🤣🤣🤣🤣
new paint on your buffer to, amazing work, professional. thanks
Thank you too!
Muy buen restauracion este video es muy bueno para los pintores automotrices saludos!
amazing restoration , and the answer is yes always replace safety parts !!
I have watched a couple of your restoration videos now and I am impressed with the level of detail you go into. However, I wanted to see what you did to check the integrity of the steel air cylinder which as you know, are prone to internal rusting over the years and have the potential to crack and explode. I did not see you doing any checks for rust nor cleaning/ internal treatment on the cylinder. Can you comment on this? Thanks
RESPECT FOR YOU !!!
That looks amazing. Great work and well put together. Trey a video and talk through it.
Thanks bro
I love your vídeos 👍👍
Thanks brother

$166 for a used/broken air compressor? Doesn't really seem like a good deal.
@Brandon RG the taxes are higher also. That is why many in countries outside the US and Canada, people fix and restore instead of throw away and buy new. New products are cheap junk compared to older products anyway. Cubans for example are still running cars from the 50's there.
@@lou704 that is because of the trade embargo. In Cuba they actually have a lot of newer Russian shit too. Doesn’t look as good for the tourists though?
I think he got his money's worth with the UA-cam views...
Wouldnt have youtube content otherwise plus yt viewer revenue can make it worthwhile
Gostei,bom trabalho. 🇧🇷
Very Nice Restoration
Thanks bro
166 for a not working old compressor, that could also have rust in the reservoir ? That’s definitely not a good deal
Was thinking that too
$166 time bomb 💣 tic tic
the tank look great from the outside. I know it can be completly rusted inside but those old tanks were good.
You dont ear that much accidents about tanks explosions.
Watching that bearing installation hurt. You've probably reduced the life of those things by 30% by "installing" them like that.
Never ever do that with a bearing.
@TheJR1948 I'm gonna guess the "mains" in this gentleman's case are just as susceptible to fire.
It was a rubber mallet so I don't think it hurt them as much as you think. They are little tougher than that. If it had a larger torque load I would be worried. 4 hp. Probably not
@@chrislangdell117 if you hit the outer race with anything making the bearing "flex" it will actually damage it. Doesn't really matter what you hit it with.
Using a wrench later was a good idea, but the "normal" way to install new bearings is to put a piece of pipe over the inside of the bearing and hit that pipe with a hammer.
Beautiful restoration and saving a compressor from scrap
Good job! You restored it with what was on hand and repaired and cleaned up old quality parts instead of buying new.
Yes, thanks
Please, loosen the four screws supporting the motor and put some tension on to the belt by pulling on the motor.
That what I do, when I replace the belt on my compressor.
Engineering aside, anyone else feel sorry for the poor plants being sprayed?
Big Tam's Garage no
Yeh someone will walk pass them and will say never saw blue plants before.
مشاء الله عليك .. ممتع ..👍🏻. .😌
Τέλεια η επισκευή του κομπρεσέρ υψηλής πίεσης αερος.
Tip for putting on bearings way easier: put the shaft in the freezer for a while and warm up the bearing a little bit (hot air gun but be careful if yoyr bearing isn't rated for sutch heat) the bearing will just fall on the shaft and will be immovable with bare hands in not even a second.
How do I know this? It did this with all the bearings in my motorcycle engine and it worked great.
Thanks
Hurt to se pounding like that..
$166 was far too much to pay for that thing.
more like 10$...
166 of their money, not USD I think!
@@thethinbluelineZ06 spesificly said usd
I would rather buy a new one for $180
if it at my place the price for new one is about 450 usd without any free gift such as blower or pipe or even quick release connector 🤣🤣
I saw those motor bikes in the beginning and my heart melted.
KAMAAL HAI 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
С 65 поршнями этот компрессор должен качать 8 атмосфер за 2 минуты, а тут печальный результат
That's a good job honestly
If only it was painted the right color! 🔴 Otherwise, it's beautiful! I wish mine was that big.
Great video it taught me a few things. Keep up with the videos.
12:48 PAIN REMOVER ;)
I need some
I missed how you cleaned the inside of the tank.
If it wasn't maintained and is rusty it's a bomb just waiting to pop....
If the compressor was as dirty as it was, the inside of the tank would be worse, that is a bomb waiting to explode
Well done sir.
Excellent video, loved it!
Thanks bro
17:35, did anyone else notice how he put Teflon tape on those JIC/SAE/AN fittings? They don't seat on the threads, they seat on the cone.
I'm an hvac tech, seeing teflon tape on those flare connections hurt, and so did the unloader that doesn't re-seat, and the bearings being hammered in by their puter race, and crankcase to cylinder gaskets on top of paint. . . . Sooooo many things done incorrectly.
Great restoration and it was bad luck to get one that needed so much work. I think it is fine to reuse safety parts if they are cleaned and tested. My worry is that it looks like there is no earth wire. I do have a couple of questions please. What was the total cost including the original $166 and how much would a compressor like that cost new where you are? Where did you find a replacement con rod? It looks like you are experienced in engine rebuilding as not many people have their own piston ring expanders. Were you able to get the machining done for free? as I’m assuming you may own or work at an engine reconditioning shop. Lastly, are you in Pakistan as I thought I heard calls to prayer in the background. Thanks Stuart 🇦🇺

Restauração profissional, parabéns👏👏👍👍🇧🇷
Very nyse good Work
Great job on rebuilding this air compressor. And the electric motor. I didn’t know they made a buffing or sanding wheel to clean off the rotor on the the motor. Well done.👍🏻
That was abrasive wheel
Well, not to say that this was the best idea :since removing all the rust, you also remove part of the metal breaking the electromagnetic gap between the rotor and the stator . In addition, there is also balancing of the motor rotor (imho imho ).But this method is the least of all evils.
When this thing blows up, it will mean one less youtube channel.
29:12 that constant hiss from the head unloader means theres a leak from the MPV/non-return valve. it should hiss but reduce to nothing in a short time, rather than what its doing
big table of cold degreaser an diesel olie.... Cleans stuff up amazingly well
I learned a lot from this video, thanks bro. Hopefully there will be something better up front....😍
It's cool and all but pressurized vessels ought to be used brand new and tested..... not old and rusty. Very cute bomb though!
Ну да собрал хорошо , в место 8 очков с напоследнем дыхание 3 очка качает , клапана кто будет притирать лепестковые
У меня есть Grand Valve, но потерял запись видео.

Did you pressure test the tank? With it being so old were you worried about rust inside the tank?
I'm also very curious.

thats a vintage air compressor? jeez, my dad has one that looks the same, and its still running well

166$ now way you can get them allot cheaper here. it sounds not great butt nice resto.
Probably something to do with the fact that he installed the bearings with a hammer...
The old green paint was also nice to be honest 😍

This is what we do with our free time bud, I’m sorry you don’t have anything positive to say.
And some of us have pride in our workmanship. Roughshod like this makes my skin crawl. I don't care if "it works" if it's not going to work right.
Nice video
i see a lot of negative comments, but also a lot more tips than just negative comments :-) i say great job taking on such a big task. you can be pround of yourself, and the journey wanting to learn :-)
Thanks brother for appreciate
just wondering if he cleaned the inside of the tank, no idea if there would be rust.
this was supposed to be relaxing to watch... not cringing me out
.
I know, right?
Got one from 1960 that still sort of works
Good work
16:00 punching into outside rim of the bearing can damage that bearing never do that !!!!
I was about to write that as well. If you fit bearings on the shaft always use inner run, if you fit bearings in to housing use outside run.

Super and thank you sir
Bel lavoro! Bravo!
Друган отправь в Россию один компрессор плиз
Он тебе обойдется дороже нового. Или думаешь он за свой счет отправлять будет? Не говоря о стоимости самого компрессора.
"Propper Tools"
Smacks the outer bearing ring down with a hammer...
I did that on my motorcycle engine with both crank bearings and the clutch bearing.. except it was only the bearing into the crankcase, I specifically didn't hit the inner ring and it had no crank assembled yet so.. does that count?
