    Ahhh the corellian corvette. A great versatile ship design that can be reconfigured in multiple ways.

      Yes it is. I'm shocked that no one has put out a regular kit for this ship. I would be all over a fine molds kit. Or dare I say it? A DeAgostini kit. They just release their X-Wing subscription for the X-Wing here in the states, though so I doubt that will happen anytime soon.

    Looks awesome. The extra chipping effect at the end and the rust streaks really make the model stand out. It looks a whole lot less grey then the kit does out of the box. Bravo Sir!

    I really enjoyed this video. I think your finished model looks great. An "old school" trick you might give a try for exhaust stains,etc. is to use a clear paint to which you add a very small amount of colored paint. Something like one or two drops to a full airbrush cup. You want it so thin you need multiple passes to see. This allows the best control of color and coverage. It then becomes very easy to make the V- shaped pattern from an aircraft exhaust,for example. It's simple to fade the edges from the darker center,too. Seal when finished.
    Happy Modeling ...

    I think it looks really good now. I think your weathering job made it look much better then before.

    You spent much more time, energy and love on your painting and weathering than the person(s), or machines, did at the factory. That all counts.

    I can definitely see the difference. I am afraid to try something like this myself. Watching you do it, it looks so easy. Mine would turn out to be a Pinterest fail! Well done, and I hope you make more videos involving FFG x-wing miniatures.

    I think it looks just fine. I think your weathering job made it look better then before. The red is pretty much the same minus the extra attention you gave it with the sanding and grey etc. I really enjoyed this video and look forward to more in the future.

    Being a player of the game I would notice the difference if I saw it. It looks great at the end! The thing that blew my mind is the 'rust' effect. I didn't expect that to come out so well in my opinion.

    A little late to the party of comments, at the end of the video you asked if people would be able to tell the difference. I think the answer is a resounding yes. Your painting is far superior to the factory paint job. I for one especially learned a new technique with the streaking and removal with a q-tip. Nice work!

    I enjoyed this as a sort of quick review on how to do some SciFi weathering. I also hoped for some ideas on whether or not trying to do re-paints was going to be worth it. I really wanted to do some re-paints for a friend who has a big heroclicks collection. Some are great as is but some have atrocious paint jobs. I couldn't figure out what kind of primer/paint/technique to use to keep the paint from flaking off after it dried. I've been hesitant to try again since then. Now I might be doing some gaming and collecting with the Star Trek and Star Wars games out. the Tantive IV is pretty big and I think that actually helped. Even though the re-paint looked better to me, I saw what you meant about how 'much' of a difference it would make. Even so, it would be great to re-paint some as different sips of the same class. Maybe I'll even take another run at the Heroclicks if I can get the info I need.

    Hasbro made a Tantive that is in scale with the other ships from FFG Star Wars X wing. Though more of a toy than a model hopefully I can transform it.

    the thing is with repainting is that you constantly feel like you have to compare to the original. Even if you improved it, it makes all those hours of time feel like they worth worth less.
    It's the main reason I don't really wanna get into X-Wing
    For what it's worth though, you did a nice job

  • @andymac4883
    @andymac4883 5 років тому

    It definitely looks better after your attentions, but I wonder if the detail of the model itself undercuts the work that you did? Everything just seems a little too soft, none of the lines are really crisp enough. Part of it being a gaming model rather than a display one, I suppose?

  • @TheRunesmythe
    @TheRunesmythe 10 років тому

    While I'd like to say that people would notice, I suppose the truth is it would depend entirely on how good of an eye for detail they had and how much time they spent looking at the ship. In my opinion though, there *is* a definite difference. As was stated, the red looks very similar to what was originally on there just with much better weathering. I think where the difference really shows through is in the color variation of the panels and the washes. You went for a more accurate look with the placement and colors of the various panels, which makes a difference, as does the layer of filters and the fact that you used a wash with more of a brown tone to it. All in all, I'd say the final product is certainly an improvement on what the ship looked like when you removed it from the box.
    As a side note, when I read that they were introducing capital ships to the game apparently I didn't realize just how much of a difference in scale there was. That thing is one huge piece of styrene.

    I'm surprised you didn't paint in the engines to make them look like they are on. As it is they are just painted black. This is a huge oversight.

  • @Assassinus2
    @Assassinus2 9 років тому

    Well, I think that your re-paint is a lot more subtle than the original. If you were to put it back in the box, it'd be hard to pick up on some of the subtleties, but the overall effect of the repaint is a lot more pleasing.

    So is this the tantive 4 specifically or is it just a cr90 model?

  • @LordTharapita
    @LordTharapita 10 років тому

    It definitely looks a lot better.
    But as for whether or not I would tell the difference if I were to find this in my box ... hm. I think so, because I know a lot of the X-wing miniatures look very dirty with that black wash they put on it and I'd probably find it odd how clean this one is in comparison. That and some parts of the model before you painted it didn't even have the wash on it. I'd notice that they've missed things in the factory.
    I think the easiest way to tell it apart is really just the fact that I know they come from a factory that doesn't really bother to paint everything or to ensure it all looks good. I'd notice the lack of unpainted or poorly painted areas.
    So yeah I think I'd notice yours is better than one just from the box.
    Either way, it looks great so well done. Any plans to do this to other ships from the X-wing miniatures game? Or was this just a one-time thing to see how it would turn out?

    You think Bandai will ever release this ship as a kit?
    It seems like they concentrating on the Classic Trilogy...
    Nobody's done a decent Death Star in model form, still.
    I've seen the Death Star II in LEGO form which seems halfway decent but none of the Death Stars (I, MPC; II, Bandai mini) released so far look very good. It's almost like it has to be at least 18 inches in diameter to look any good...

    Didn't Alderaan have a recall on this model? Alderaan CEO said that if the ship took a small hit in the center of the frame that it would cause the Ships Air Bags to deploy which would automatically engage the Ships Parking Brake causing the Ship to come to a dead stand still.

    Personally, I think you spent way more time than necessary on the repaint, though as long as you had fun, who cares? If it were me, and I do have one of these on my shelf, I'd just in and rework the tones with filters and glazes, chip and weather to taste, which arguably could just as long, but as long as I had fun and enjoy the end result, again who cares. Anyway, nice job.
