I was shocked he knew who Danny Gatton was as a kid. Danny was amazing yet mostly a regional act in the DC/MD/VA area. Marcus is really gonna influence a lot of young kids to sing and play.
@@moodyvol89 only boring old farts worship SRV, you are Exhibit A. He is the least innovative blues player ever 🤣 If you only listen to one artist you're not in a position to offer a valid opinion on music. Also, he is forgotten, apart from the aforementioned old farts and wannabes still talking about him. He was a raging cokehead who copped all of Albert King's style, with a hint of Hendrix thrown in - hardly innovating, apart from his skin colour 👋
@@moodyvol89 also, i realise you probably live in some nowhere place like Bumfuck, Idaho, and it's still the year 1990 over there, so of course all you listen to is music from the 80s 😎
Marcus King is the shit. imo he is the best act out rn, i hope he brings sum of his bluesy guitar to the radio. this musician plays real music & thats not too common rn. peace and love.
Just discovered this amazing talent yesterday after I read a feature on him in the NY Times. I looked him up and saw that he's playing at the Beacon theater in a couple of weeks, and there are still a few good seats still available down front. The website had a caveat: prices can fluctuate with demand. So I clicked on one of the down-front seats. $635 a pop. I'm really happy for Marcus, but sad to see those seats so far out of my reach!
11:57 doesn't make sense to me. He says he plays the major penatonic of the flat 3. He plays a Cm chord [kind of ,not full barre chord] the flat 3 of Cm is Eflat. He says he solos over the Cm with the E flat Major penatonic , to get out side. But Eflat maj pen is just Cminor pen. Can anyone sort me out?
To me I think it’s just a different way of looking at it.. the notes are the same but the chord tones are different.. so your target notes change if you’re looking at it as the relative major.. it can make a pretty standard pentatonic lick sound a hell of a lot more jazzy or a “little outside”
Using a minor pentatonic over its relative major has a different consonance (more bluesy) than playing the major pentatonic over it's own root chord and progression. Minor always sounds sad and the blues is sad music. Makes perfect sence to me.
An intelligent, well-spoken, thoughtful young man! Super talented and appreciative of his gifts.
Well said !
Pretty sophisticated talent for such a young man. I will be a life long fan.
This kid is amazing....one in a million. Smart and incredibly skilled. Can't wait to see more of him.
Live is amazing
This guy is so gracious and humble. Marcus you are awesome! Can't wait to see you in NY again.

Amazing interview. Thank you very much.

Must have worked very hard to reach this standard plus natural talent and a king is born
What a interesting young Mann
the way he incorporates jazz into electric blues is stunning and incredibly unique
njdkidd1231 Yup. There hasn't been a blues innovator like him since SRV.
@@AnalogOpher Stevie Ray Yawn was a boring bastard, he didn't innovate
Thomas Cat yet no one has been able to replicate what he did lol, literally every guitarist working now days was influenced in some way by SRV gtfoh 😂

Hells yeah! Seems the blues are in good hands. Prosperous Journey my friend.
Long live the King

A future master at work..
14:30 holy molly that was amazing!

your riffs, The Album's Groove is claiming for an acoustic show!
Just you and the guitar...
Waiting so badly!

I'm seeing his for $35!
this guy is the REAL DEAL.....
Really talented and sweet person he is. The way he explains the whole story is really interesting and fun to hear. Great guy 👍👍
Amazing - saw him in Toronto in 2018 and the band was tight. Check out that first fret placement on his acoustic...
A manouche French guitar. You Know Django Reinhardt ;)
that's a 'zero' fret chum
When u think every chord has been used.....then u hear Marcus-lol Someone who actually learned the ENTIRE chord book-lol
🤘🏻killer player & vocalist
je découvre depuis quelques semaines , je suis halluciné et les places de concert sont prise a Annecy
Marcus King!
Crazy!!!
Is there anyone as talented as him that just sits for an interview for a half hour talking intelligently about guitar...
very nice person....
Did he say that he puts the Tube Screamer in the Amp's effects loop?
What is the tune that he speaks about starting 9:20 ?
I think it's Thespian Espionage
11:57 "tease the Donna Lee" reference to Charlie Parker.
There is some Tommy Bolin sounds in there?

He uses that pinky quite a lot in his playing. The sign of a great guitarist.
Your behind times we're not worthy. Jazz has them by the balls listening.
i think the 4th king might be a white guy.... im ok with that
Laura Guirguis Stevie is legend, certainly, and among the icons, but he wasn't a King in name. That's the point I think
5th king....lets not forget ed king
All the blacks will get mad if the next king is a white one.
@@adam_-adam you are a dumb fuck.
@Laura Mounier Oh you mean the dead cokehead who copied everything Albert King did? Yeah I remember him, loved his work with David Bowie.
So reaL!!!
I dig
Boy can play boy can sing
I picked this trick up from Scofield . Lol
He studied Jazz....Jazz musicians are the most flexible musicians! They are soaked in Blues and Swing! Chick Corea, Benson and many others prove it!
6:48 Jealous Man starts
Instant classic from its release onwards.
Interviewer is clueless. Marcus, as always, being genuinely humble and patient.
Marcus forgot more about guitar than most will ever know.
So who's his dad then?
cheers
Look up Marvin King.
Lol the guy keeps say more slowly please...he wants to steal his licks! Lol!
10:46
One more time more slowly 🙄 C'mon man!! You see those eyes...5:42
Reinhardt used that guitar.
sings and plays better than john mayer
?????????????????????? Enjoy the music
completely different... comparing apples and oranges
heard that, Mayer should just play guitar with mouth closed at all times. Marcus is well ahead of mayer, Marcus is freak at that age, truthful grate!
as a huuuge mayer fan who was influenced by his blues stuff, i would have to agree with you there. In my opinion marcus is the best of the living.
You are Truth, and I do Love the Grateful Dead, I think King is the next King, finger look? Please
A little angrier ya dig
To bad he had to deal with a lousy interviewer
