One of the main reasons I love this movie is because it reminds me so much of my childhood growing up in the 70’s with the other kids - especially during the summer months .. lol ☺️💖💖
My mom got me hooked to all the old scool movies. Crooklyn, school days, breakfast club, Poetic Justice, Friday, Boyz in da hood, Coming to America, House Party, me and my mom's favorite song Love will be waiting at home; Movie: Waiting to exhale, Soul food. I think you get the idea.
When the dad comes home with the treat for the kids..reminds me of my dad coming home late at night n me n my sis being so excited he was home:) my dad used to bring me n my sister haagen dazz ice cream or McDonalds or stickers..love u daddy xx
That scene brings me back to my childhood, but instead of peas it was liver. She could've wrapped the plate in foil for him to eat it tomorrow. I can never subject my daughter to that.
One of my favorite scenes from the movie. I love how the little dog took off with his pound cake. I had that happen once when my sister brought me a Wendy’s hamburger. I was sitting at the table talking to my sister when suddenly her cocker spaniel by the name of Buster took off with my hamburger when I was not looking 🤣 I was left with French fries and a soda.
My mom use to leave me home to pick up my brother and one time the dog ate the sandwich she used to make for me it’s the dumb small memories that we remember and cherish the most from our childhood
We were having chicken for lunch one afternoon, and my late rottie, Bear took off with my brother's, who was 3 at the time, chicken leg. He cried out. I laughed so hard, I almost choked over my food🤣
Unpopular opinion: This is my personal favorite Spike Lee movie. While not as explicit and/or politically charged as Do The Right Thing or Malcolm X; both arguably regarded as his Magnum Opus, I've always came back to this slice of life/coming of age family sitcom-style drama that feels timeless despite taking place around the 70s. How Alfre Woodard and Delroy Lindo weren't even considered for some awards is beyond me.
I don't blame you for that! I am still so pissed off at the people who did that to me. I've got a nine-month-old daughter. I try not to make her eat so she doesn't like, but with her being a baby at least wants her to try through bucks of the lemons and three bucks in the grapefruit but that's as far as it's going to go dang it
TO THIS DAY! Every time I'm at a birthday dinner and it comes time for cake and ice cream..My mind is drawn back to this scene lol "Scrumpt-dillildity-umptious" lol
Same reason I don't force my niece to eat something she dislikes when I babysit her. She hates anything with nuts in it. Especially peanuts. They make her throw up. And she has to have the skin peeled off her apples. The skin left on will make her throw up, too.
They really shouldn't. And I always say "Thank Goodness" my mother wasn't like this with me growing up and for the record, I myself don't like black-eyed peas either. if I were Nate, I probably would've picked up the plate and threw it
There your parents. food is expensive especially if you have a lot kids. You should obey your parents if they telling you to do something that’s good for you
Mama and dad use to make me sit at the table all night because i wouldn't eat my black eyed pea so i can relate i figure out a plan i jam it in my mouth and go to the bathroom and flush it down the toilet
2:15-17 "Quick quick vaccination shot!" LOL Oh gosh to think they were super scared of a virus in those days. All the fears we've got now from this pandemic are as old as time.
I can so relate. My mom used to force me to eat a lot of foods that I didn't like growing up. I would just sit there for hours and just hold the food in my mouth and try to swallow it without 🤢 🤮
I have good Parents. They never force me to eat something I don’t like. I remember when my Mom had me tried Macaroni and Cheese. Didn’t like it at first, but at one point I gave it another try. I loved it. Once I have Children on my own, I will never force them to eat something they don’t like.
Lmao.. I don't like black eye peas either they are so nasty. Ion blame ya Nate lol. Then the daddy brings dessert right in front of him smh and Clinton trying to tease. Lol
I did this EXACT thing with my Dad, except it was Broccoli Shells and Cheese. I warned him that I hated Brocooli, sure enough, I take a bite and I threw up EVERYWHERE. Dad got mad, said I did it on purpose, but he was infamous for making me eat things I didn't like, and I will NEVER force my kid to eat something against their will.
When I was at this group home for the blind, I had to eat stuff I didn't lie and I got sick. My step dad told me they should have whoop my butt and I almost hurt him for that.
@@khalidbinwaleed5072 I agree. She shouldn't have forced and scream at him to eat the peas. Trust me I know what I'm saying I was same way as Nate except it wasn't black eyed peas it was the regular green peas and still to this day I absolutely refuse to eat them. They are nasty and the smell and texture is disgusting. My mom used to make me eat them or no Kool-aid. Until one day she screamed at me to eat them so I had one spoonful and I gagged and puked all over my plate. She was upset but at the same time realized that I didn't like them and couldn't eat them so afterwards whenever mom made peas she would make me a substitute vegetable like green beans or broccoli or fresh carrots and I ate those with ease.
Spike Lee just doesn’t create characters for his films. He designs the characters roles in his process. I love Crooklyn because I grew up as the only girl in the house with two boys…so I can relate to her.

@tonika7543 I agree that a lot of foods can make a person big and strong, and what-not. However, a lot of foods can provide some of the same benefits and vitamins. For example, I love eggs, but not mushrooms, and they both contain vitamin D. I can't stand black-eyed peas, even though they contain fiber. So does oatmeal, which I enjoy. There are so many options out there for everyone😇
One of the main reasons I love this movie is because it reminds me so much of my childhood growing up in the 70’s with the other kids - especially during the summer months .. lol ☺️💖💖
