1:50 yes it is common to have casinos on the border with Thailand, because casinos and gambling are illegal in Thailand. So Thais tend to cross the border to satisfy their gambling needs
Hey Ziggy, the odd language in the one between chile and Argentina is Mapuche, natives from the Argentinian and Chilean Patagonia. I’m from around that border actually.
11:40 - If you want to impress you viewers, instead of calling that black eagle the "German coat of arms", call it the "Bundesadler" (federal eagle), which is its official German name. 😉
13:50 I went through that border several times when I was a kid to visit our uncle who lived in Switzerland., I knew right away it was the Mulhouse into Basel border.
i was looking at that border crossing in round 2 (bavet) the other day! its a massive base of operations for basically loads of scam call center type operations, and if you look at the satellite view there are loads of massive buildings with security fences around them to stop people leaving, rather than people getting in
My grandparents were from that Swedish town, Haparanda, on the border to Finland, so I've been on that very road numerous times. My grandfather used to help Finnish refugees over the river in his boat during WWII. Fun fact; a little to the north of there is the world's first (and perhaps still only) golf course with holes in two different countries. Also, Haparanda and Tornio (Torneå in Swedish) tried to rebrand their cities into the trans-national "Eurocity" to gain world wide fame. I guess that fame never quite made it to Australia. Or even into the next town over.
towns with "Klingen" in their name often got their name for being famous for producing instruments tho, however some also got their name because of their armory production. Other places also just got the name because of nearby mountains with sharp edges (which are not called "Klingen" in any way, but I guess people just were like "Hey, that mountain ridge over there looks sharp like a blade")
Im assuming the town name means "wonderful blades" because "wunderklingen" as "wonderful sound" doesnt make the most sence grammatically as "klingen" is a verb
@@splatwo2200 you gotta remember that most town names are like a thousand years old and went through many linguistic changes. They rarely make sense grammatically
"Limburgers" means "people from Limburg". Limburg is both a Belgian and a Dutch province, but only the Dutch one borders Germany (the Belgian province is to the west of the Dutch one)
This is pretty funny and perfect timing, i just watched your other video about the borders a few hours ago. Loved the format, and here on queue you give me another one! haha
Love this. Been watching your videos for years and the Basel Swiss/French border road is the first thing I've ever recognised becasue I've actually been there, just driven it. Schengen is crazy btw, no border checks, nothing
Dutch Limburg have added "De Limburgers heten u welkom" or "The Limburgers welcome you" to their border signs. The latter part is blurred in the picture along with the lower side of the Dutch Limburg flag. It used to be "Welcome to Limburg" but the Belgian Limburgers were not to pleased with that message.
Haha, the last round was very familiar to me as I am even crossed the border there. It's a funny location because when you cross the river from Finland to Sweden, the first thing that appears is gigantic IKEA :D "Sverige" is pronounced so that with English writing system it would be "Svaeryeh" or smth.
@20:52 The Citymarket is marked there, it's the big yellow-orange building slightly further north, tho google maps seems to prioritize showing the other business that reside in that building first. The building at the front (which I assume to be some kind of customs building) is the one marked in grey on the map
20:36 "Centrum" is indeed Swedish, but they write it on their signs in Finland too. All over Finland, I think. This is because Sweden has owned Finland for a large part of history.
I've been through that exact vietnam/cambodia crossing! A 9 hour bus ride between Ho Chi Minh and Phnom Penh, this is the main route between them. Not often see places in geoguessr where I've physically been, always fun
14:50 as a Swiss I'm gonna take a guess and because the police cars are written in german, I'm gonna say this border is the Basel border where you can go either in France or Germany and that's why you're thinking about France!
Dang you found it! I thought you would get tunnel visioned by looking at every france-switzerland border instead of considering Basel as well! Good job :D
Nice map. I played it as well now and got a 25k on my fourth or so try in 13 minutes (ironically the round that should have been the easiest for me took the longest; Germany-Netherlands). You got a fairly favourable seed as the map also has many impossible-to-5k locations (e.g., a beach on a large border river without any info, or a tiny road where maybe you can guess the country but it would be super hard to find, or a photosphere of a random border without info).
Slovenias border control is always crappy towards everyone coming from Croatia. 'Get out of the bus at 1am at a schengen crossing to look at your id's no hello or goodbye' type of shit
It's funny. One wouldn't think that border crossings would be that difficult for a pro player, but apparently they are? Would have never guessed they would be that difficult.
Cambodia and Vietnam's crossing is like this, at 5:00, From Cambodia to Thailand the design is not that intricate usually a normal building or just a gate lmao, especially the main entry and exit to thai or viet🇰🇭
1:50 yes it is common to have casinos on the border with Thailand, because casinos and gambling are illegal in Thailand. So Thais tend to cross the border to satisfy their gambling needs

5:30 I live right next to Reinheim on the french side of the border, so its really nice to see you get the 5K! 😄
Having Pince in both languages so that everyone understands the sign is a 500 IQ move

Hi zi8gzag, your Geoguessr vs 5 pros in vc was one of my favourite videos on your channel! Would be nice if you could do another one sometime!
Another one is coming!
19:23 That's my birthplace! Yep, right on the Sweden-Finland border :D
Wow that's so cool
Do you know Swedish and Finnish or just one of them?
@@Cat-o3s I speak both
@@JulianPHarri Ok, cool! I speak Swedish btw.
9:53 and more importantly there is a river bru💀💀🙏🙏

The argentina chile border crossing looked so interesting!
I would totally fail just because the border is so damn long lol

6:16 the landkreise signs is meant to be read from bottom to top so if that was indo it would be kabupaten bottom kec middle and desa top
12:06 the sign says "Zoll Douane (something else)" on top
"Wunderklingen" can mean wonderful sound, but can also mean wonderful blades

A "Klinge" in medieval German referred to a small valley or ravine among other things.
"Limburgers" means "people from Limburg". Limburg is both a Belgian and a Dutch province, but only the Dutch one borders Germany (the Belgian province is to the west of the Dutch one)

The chilled Zelda remixes are perfect bg music. Pleasant sounding and not too distracting.

Now you gotta tell the “traumatic” border story!
10:14 Zi8gzag roasting the Philippines with that word
17:01 The ultimate troll would be putting the location at the former border with Principality of Hutt River
Zi8gzag did you do a vlog with lennli on your Balkans trip? Please upload! 🤞🤞🤞🤞
It was too traumatic.
I recognized the Haskell library in the thumbnail immediately! I visited there in 2021, border patrol kept following us around the area lol
I'd be very interested to hear about the traumatic experience at the Croatia/Slovenia border. xD
Slovenias border control is always crappy towards everyone coming from Croatia. 'Get out of the bus at 1am at a schengen crossing to look at your id's no hello or goodbye' type of shit
17:23 tbf both the most southern region of Netherlands and the adjacent North-Eastern region of Belgium are called Limburg
It amused me greatly that the whole time you were looking for Wunderklinger you had the marker on Wunderklingerstrasse
watching this while working on my subdivison borders map lol
sverige is pronounced like svearyeh, which is old for svea rike which means swedish kingdom
