Absolutely. For a split second I thought it could have been Sardinia, as we do get quite a lot of Eucalyptus trees here, but then I though... nah, that definitely doesn't look like Italy. Well...
@@dmitriydrozdov1035 Nope. The degrees away from south depends only on time of day (that's why solar clocks work). Only the position on a hypothetical north-south line depends on your latitude, and indeed has 46 degrees of variation between the two extremes.
@@ryanlind5239 This effect is *MUCH* stronger than you'd think, too. It's possible to see the sun _juuust_ in the south in _Argentina._ Beware the sun can still flip poles depending on season, even over the tropic lines.
The Nissan in the 4:20 round has an unblurred license plate, and just like on all Russian license plates, you can see the region code on the very right, 28 = Amur Oblast, which tracks. General Russia tip: I know unblurred license plates are very rare this game, but it's still extremely useful to memorize Russian region codes because commercial vehicle companies often duplicate the entire plate number in very large print on the backs of trucks, lorries, and taxi-buses (marshrutkas) for better visibility. Since they're just decals, they never get blurred by GMaps' algorithm and can be a godsend if you're stuck on a random Russian highway but have the back of a commercial vehicle in sight.
Is it because the plates get dirty in winter or is it so that government workers are easier held accountable for their actions? I saw the same in China where the plate was printed on the back of the vechile. Thanks for the information :)
@@PkPvre Also in Colombia on taxis, trucks, buses and other commercial vehicles. Taxis often even on the roof as well. Google blurs those quite often though. Even more useful than in Russia as they tell you the city of registration.
I'm Dutch & i was screaming at the screen that it was the Bay of Fundy. Always nice when i know something he doesn't. The name is funny to me as, besides (water)transport which is why i know of this place, i like things like the channel "Fundie Fridays", so the name just stuck more easily.
Fun Facts: That "Fundy" Canada Park you were in is the place with the greatest tides in the world, it's really impressive (also Canada federal Parks are all over the country)
bro smee of these guesses are monster, absolutely outlandish, im glad you are the first guy that pops up in videos and images when u type geoguessr in search, well deserved my man
Now they need to make a map with only locations where at least one top player got them wrong And another idea: let us choose two countries and a lower ELO limit so that the game automatically generates a map only with locations where a player with the selected ELO or higher guessed one country when it was actually the other country.
"Only new players could struggle with this" Proceeds to completely bottle two rounds in Canada/Alaska and one in Australia :P But honestly, if it's the average score people get on these rounds, it will always be based more on casual players because they far outnumber the pros
I like that some of you logic actually comes from the fact that you knew these were often missed locations. Naturally, the statistics that made them the hardest map didn't have that info
I'm commenting after you completed the "no moving" round so don't know how you did in the NMPZ but that was an amazing game! Scoring 5k on some seemingly random Alaskan road, recognizing Russia region by the presence of right-hand-side steering wheels, correctly identifying Indonesia in spite of the plants not being lush. EDIT: I also love the meta-level playstyle here where you assume it's not the first thing that comes to mind bc the map is statistically difficult.
good shout on the brazil houses, they do kinda look like white stucco orange tile roof! what a great puzzle round for plant meta enjoyers. the landscape did not look mexico but the cacti were giving uncanny valley vibes for mexican cacti anyway
That Alaska round at 17:43 is in the area where they film one of my favourite TV shows, Alaska: The Last Frontier. I think I've had a round on that road before (or one very close) and managed to 5k by recognising Kachemak bay.
Did they mean actually _statistically_ hard, or just a percentage that doesn't take into account sample size? Because some locations might have just randomly gotten only a few guesses that happened to be mostly bad. 💀
I see you playing and talking to us, and I think... Sometimes ppl can be streaming, so they are looking at something and explaining it to the viewers. And when we will analyze their games we will say that they are googling, because they are frozen in the image hahahha
first loc looks like chamise chaparral, you can find pure stands of it like that sometimes in SoCal, I would say more likely to be LA south to the border. That's what I would send! edit: well, I was right on the state and I think I'm right on the plant, but not exactly correct on the location
Kinda crazy that a location in Russia with white car and unblurred license plate is considered one of the hardest by the devs. I think this map concept would work infinitely better if they limited their data to Champion games only.
When I saw the Brazil one I was like ok that's Africa but then I thought, you know what? It kinda looks like Brazi's northeast too. And I was right lol I live in the northeast and I always get happy when we appear in gringos geoguessr games haha btw, the way he speaks Pernambuco is really cute
Hey Zigzag I love your videos and I learn a lot from you. Can you make a reaction video for Captainsparklez? He's a minecraft youtuber but lately he's been playing a bit of GeoGuessr. I think it could be very interesting.
No. By "correct", he actually meant right-hand drive ("the Russian side"). The steering wheel was on the left, which = RHD. There is no correct side for the world, there is just a more and less common way. There is actually evidence to suggest LHD came first due to the desire to keep a sword in the right/dominant hand and be ready for battle lol.
Cause there they (we) have a lot, like really a lot of imported directly from the left side driving Japan cars. Especially in cities like Vladivostok the Japanese imported cars are in a majority, which is very logically explainable due the distance between Europe and this part of Russia
I think you are way overestimating the meta-knowledge of gold players. Maybe 10% of the meta you mentioned is something casual players will pick up on. Definitely do not need them to sit in the Gold Elo.
the sicilian one is wild ive never seen something like that in sicily ( i live there)

making tricky locs in nonnative tree plantations is illegal mapmaking imo

5k on that dirt road in Alaska is pretty crazy!!
Midday is the time when the sun is the most south/north (depending on the hemisphere), its east in the morning and west in the evening
or if it is around equator +- 23 degrees sun can be east/west at any time of the day during some season
Also if you're between the tropics the sun could be in the north or south depending on the season. It's not strictly based on hemisphere

China does that as well. And that gives players who can read Chinese a pretty big advantage.
True. I have also seen many rounds in India where trucks would have printed plate number which makes it easy to guess the region.
16:41 was kinda shocked to see this come up, the Bay of Fundy is pretty famous. Guess not enough Canadian players playing to bring up the average 😂

16:41 The Bay of Fundy has the largest natural tides in the world. Can vary by up to 16 meters/52 feet in a day!
Missing the target by 41 meters is like guessing neighbour's property... on a dirty road... in the middle of nowhere...
Zigzag looking scrumptious today 😋
Dropped just in time for my commute home, thank you
bruh the usvi car dipped

Hi Zi8gzag, I’ve learned a lot with your videos. Greetings from Mexico😊
That road in the US in the 8th minute is almost definitely making people think it's Europe because of the narrow road.
The devs should release a top 10,000 lowest score map. It would be good playing for those of us who want to learn!

I'm surprised you didn't memorize the license plate numbers for Russian regions. In your case you can clearly see 28 which is Amur Region
How do you make a low scoring map. Not like around the equator, but like on the now deleted map bara það versta

Ah yes Singapore, the largest Malaysian island
I think new players send europe on that US round just because the road is narrowish
