    On the Vienna round, there is a glitch in the replay system where a guess won’t always show up if the guess is made in the last second or so of the round. It looks like he was about to plonk when the replay cut off. I’ve seen it happen a number of times watching replays after a duel where a guess is made but doesn’t show up on replay. Still shows in game summary just not replay.
    Hard to say, definitely not conviction worthy in my mind. Hope this helps!

    • @GeoJaydi
      @GeoJaydi  25 днів тому +5

      Really interesting, thanks for the insight! I didn't know about that glitch.. It's another reason that the devs should give us access to a bit more information when we review, like seeing a few other rounds or summaries from rounds..

    These are definitely fun and interesting to watch!
    One thing I'd say is that while looking at a sign for a long time is indeed suspicious, if it's a sign that's not in the player's native script it's much more normal. I know when I see a Russian sign I'll have to basically read it one letter at a time so it'll take ages (although I might open the map to look for other names containing a specific letter to refresh my memory), and for a low ranked player that might be the *only* way to get information.
    I'd say this sort of thing is most likely for Cyrillic because it's closest to the Latin script so the barrier of entry is the lowest, but with people these days learning all sorts of scripts to improve at Geoguessr it could conceivably happen with all of them. There's also a risk here of being Western-centric and assuming "everyone can read the Latin alphabet fluently" which *might* be true for the demographic that's likely to play Geoguessr at all but I don't actually know, someone from Thailand might be as slow at reading Spanish as I am at reading Russian.
    That said, that particular Russian poster didn't look very promising to me, and I only play old-fashioned five round games (no duels) so I might not be very representative.

    • @GeoJaydi
      @GeoJaydi  25 днів тому +5

      Yes, very good points! The manner in which they make the guess usually ends up being the most suspicious thing in cases where they are actually Googling rather than reading.. If they are slowly reading the script, they should still have to scan for the actual place on the map, but Googlers usually switch back from their other tab and zoom straight in to the correct place

    I sometimes stop for 30 seconds on a sign, not because im googling it, but b/c Im just so utterly confused and space out for a bit, while making absurd guesses, that aren't even logically possible. I don't get accused though, b/c im usually in the united kingdom when the right answer is signapore. I almost never get it right lol

    • @GeoJaydi

    16:00 I mean if you've heard of any of these places it's definitely Windsor, which is by far the most well known as its a fairly major city right on the border with Detroit. I would have been baited by that and scanning in that area. It turns out to actually be about 7 hrs away from there, so to zoom in on that location based on the names of random tiny villages is ridiculous lmao.
    Populations of those towns
    Windsor 230,000
    Maitland 1,100

    In team duels reviews can you see if they are typing something into the chat? As a frequent duels player sometimes I pause at weird points to type to my teammate if we aren’t in a call. Just curious if that is something to consider as possible during these awkward long pauses.

    1:02 at least once I experienced the replay map being the tiniest one despite the one in the actual game being the upsized map so clicking outside could be a replay bug but it seems hard to tell and the other behaviour is pretty suspicious
    18:30 think that is a replay bug and the (last second) guess did not get captured but you could alternatively to check if something is under the marker use something like ublocks element zapper (may have to zap a few times if it the marker has nested elements) or try to select the target marker with inspect element and delete the dom-element

    Idea form the video with your girlfriend.
    I don't know if this would work, but. What if you keep the game with the same rules. You blindfold yourself. After she flips the coin, she explains what she sees. you can guess if she is trying to tell the truth, or purposefully lying. If she is purposefully lying, and you guess that she is lying then you can guess where you are on the map.(no moving or zooming) But for example if you guess that she is lying, but she is actually trying to tell the truth. Then she guesses where she is on the map.(she can move and zoom) But her goal is to guess as far away from the actual location. The game only ends when you get 12'500 or 15'000 points in a 5 round game. You follow these same set of rules every round.

    • @davidenatoh359

    Regarding the Vienna round, usually when I'm watching a replay of the person who guessed last (or didn't guess at all) I can see the countdown clock. So I would assume this person did guess and did not of time out. But maybe that's not how it works with these replays for investigation.

    • @GeoJaydi
      @GeoJaydi  20 днів тому

      I'm always looking for the length of time that someone stops on a sign combined with how long they scan the map and how unlikely the guess is
      So just reading a sign for a long time isn't too suspicious (especially a sign with a lot of text) but how that information is used is the important clue
      A googler doesn't need to open the map and scan for place names, they just zoom straight in to the right location, but a legit player will need to look around for a bit before they find any small places on the (in-game) map

  • @guganyasha

      To me it doesn't look like a cheater, if you google the street on that billboard "улица Гостиный ряд" the correct location comes up instantly. Just before zooming in on the billboard player saw unblurred license plate with Nizhny Novgorod oblast area code, it would be easy to google but it's very possible to know it too. The fact that player instantly chose NN city instead of Arzamas does make it look legit.
